Thanks G, yeah before we launched the boat, we spoke to an angler who just came in. He has fished Loch Awe for 30 years and only had 3 ferox. We thought we’d be up against it, but we just settled into enjoying the days fishing and chatting. Thankfully we were blessed very quickly, in terms of time we were expecting to put into this campaign. As always appreciate your comments buddy👍

Fantastic. Great to see such careful fish handling. I wondered if you have ever attempted to troll for Arctic Char with downrigger gear or similar. I watched a film years ago about professional Char fishermen in the Lake District. They were fishing with hemp lines and mono leaders. They had large numbers of small handmade and highly polished lures attached to the lines which were attached to long bamboo poles with a bell on the end for bite indication. Loch Awe and other glacial lochs hold good populations of Char. I know you like a challenge.

Hello Jimmy, I have considered trolling for Arctic Char as I have seen that video your talking about in the Lake District which is very interesting. That maybe one for the future as char is a species I like to target from the bank also. Many thanks for your comments mate👍

To be fair, that is a big fish, I would just switch to dead bait and see if you can push it a little. A large lobworm might work, would be worth running a few rods to see what they fancy. . @@PiscatorUK-Fishing

Living in Wales and hearing rumours of the deep glacial lakes holding these. Fingers crossed I don't have to sell a kidney to go give it a try, but it'd be a lifetime catch for someone used to catching 5inchers 😂

Great video and what a fish.! Nice to see a red coastliner as well - i have one myself, albeit a fair bit older! Out of interest - why hp is your main outboard? I still have the original 20hp mercury 2 stroke with a 2.3 honda back up, i’ve had issues with my main engine but have kept it going over the yrs and have been thinking about replacing it with maybe a 15hp. Not sure if that is a good idea or to stick with 20. Random qu i know just couldn’t make out the hp of the Tohatsu. Many thanks 👍

Hi mate and thanks for your comments very much appreciated. The boat belongs to Phil. The main engine is 20hp 4 stroke. He’s done a few videos now on his boat with some great content on the boats setup and equipment. On @anotherangleuk

@@anotherangleUK i need to check the plate on it but maybe yours is just better maintained and gel coat much shinier 😆 you’ve got it kitted out nice with the swivel seats. i think it’s maybe a bit earlier in the late 80s but can’t be much older! I bought it in 2007 from a retired fella in Rochester on the Thames Estuary and dragged it back to Skye. Had some great days out up here fishing and just going out to watch wildlife etc, used to do a few creels too and my lad really is into all that so hoping to do a bit more of that with the half dozen on so. I’m sure the engine is pre-90s it’s the older squarer mercury design, I got some manuals that are for the next model up, off Caley Marine that helped when I did the service on it a couple of yrs back, as it’s not easy getting it to anywhere to get it done. Been thinking of a new engine but you know what family life is like, it’s not always the priority 👍 i’ll check that date and catch up with your videos. All the best.

Lovely to see another Coastliner - particularly with a red hull! We have had ours for 32 years, and it wasn’t new when we bought it, so it’s a fair age. Hull number 214, so I’ll have to check with Orkney when it was actually built. As we are never likely to be using the boat at sea (we live about as far from the sea as you can get in Scotland), we don’t need things like navigation lights or VHF. So far all the the fishing has been on the local loch at the foot of our drive. We still have the original 2 stroke Mariner outboard that came with the boat, but I would really like to upgrade to a 4 stroke. 15 hp is quite adequate for our needs, and I think that one of the advantages of the 4 stroke over the 2 stroke is that it can purr along at low speeds. Anyway, I’m glad to have stumbled across your site, and will continue to follow your adventures. Tight lines, James.
