Good video ; Patience is essential....17 months out...age 76. Was worried early on about tightness, felt like the surgeon duct taped about 8 turns in there...he laughed, tried to tell me it was ok but it was a while before it sunk in...could do a perfect straight right away but never could bend beyond 112...I fretted , wanted the 120 but now, at age 77,112 is all I really need. No longer feels too tight...it's pretty good really. I walk a mile every other day w no limp. A recumbent bike was tremendously helpful.I ride 2 miles on the days between walking. Good luck,all...this man knows his stuff.

Great video. I had my knee replaced 6 weeks ago and was told that I’m not getting good flexion cause I’m not working hard enough. I do 3 sessions a day at home and PT in a facility 2 times a week. Almost all that you said was what is happening to me and I realize now that I’m not allowing myself time to heal. Thank you for this video.

Hi Tony. I had a TKR 4 weeks ago and my range of motion is 98. I started doing stretching and exercising since day 4 after surgery and I considered that I was advanced in the recovery process. I am 48 yo and I have worked too hard since I could and now I feel that I got stuck. But at the same time… how do we know that we are stuck? How do we measure that? Now seeing your videos, I feel that if I keep doing what I am doing and I have patience, then I should get results. Right now, my knee feels tight when I bend it (too tight at the front) sometimes too tight around the incision and I even though I do PT and my exercises twice a day (always reaching out my max pain level), I am not seeing a noticeable change in range motion. I have seen many many videos from Drs and from PT experts and I absolutely love your videos. They are so knowledgeable, kind, clear and they give hope to us. The people who you dedicate your life to improve ours. You are great! Thank you 🙏🏻

Thanks Tony, you're awesome. I have the total knee replacement six months before, I can walk normally but sometimes not too stabilize and hard to go up and down a stair. I am a piano teacher so I need to bend my left feet more than 95 degree for balancing while I play, but now I'm just around 90 degree. Just you said I haven't had any good sleep in every single night it's so frustrated and depression but your videos make me feel good and hope. Thanks again 😊

Three weeks ago I had double knee replacement surgery done. I've had pain in my right leg for at least six years. My quads would tighten up causing much discomfort. I've done exercises and have used knee braces to help alleviate the discomfort. I'm still dealing with that pain on top of having both knees replaced. I often feel very discouraged with the small range of motion I have in my right leg even though I'm faithfully doing my exercises every day. My muscles are continuously sore. I ice my knees every hour, elevate them and wear my compression socks. Thank you for your video I just stumbled upon on you tube. I think I'm being too impatient with my body. Your video gave me some words of encouragement and that is what I'd like to thank you for.

I just had my right knee replace 3 weeks ago. I have been studying Martial Arts for 55 years. I’ve trained very hard all my life. I want to thank you for your very honest and truthful approach to our Rehab. Thank you very much. I’m in tears now. Cause I was so afraid that I couldn’t train again. Thank you so much. Really. You have provided me a more in depth understanding of my rehab and knee operation. I can’t thank you enough. I am making good progress and am happy with it. I’m not killing myself with pain. I know that you really have to let any serious injury repair or damage take time to heal. I’m 65 and I know that all my training and workouts will be a major factor in my rehabilitation. I’ve been doing it either with weight training. Or Basic Martial Art training. Today I will do what we call basic beginning Kata training. Slow but moving. I will be using my cane for stability when moving the right leg. Thank so much for you sharing such important information. .

Great video. My surgeon has the same philosophy that the soft tissue needs time to recover. The surgery is very traumatic and although it’s very important to do the physical therapy to regain range of motion, he stresses that you need to take time to rest and recover. I had my right knee replaced 17 days ago and I'm fortunate that so far things are going very well. I had my first PT session 3 days after surgery and I hit 102° flexion. In my next session on day 7 I reached 113°, and I can now achieve 120° with ease. I saw my doctor several days ago for a two-week follow-up and he suggested that I stop the PT for now and just continue to do the home exercises that were prescribed. The reason being is that the PT people have plans which say once the patient reaches certain milestones then they move on to the next level, and based on my progress so far the next step would be to start working on strength training. He doesn't want me to work on strength training until the 6 week mark because he wants to give that soft tissue a chance to recover.

I really believe that you are making a valid point about the recovery needed between doing the work. After five weeks post op of TKR on my right knee, I did my left. The work on my knees are going to be varied for a short time, but I look forward to some real progress down the road. Thanks for the reminder that after doing the work, that you need to rest and allow the body to do it’s thing before doing more work. We tend to want quick results and may be messing up the progress with that lack of patience. Need to listen to our bodies. Thanks!

Your videos that I have watched I’ve been a lifesaver for me. I am three weeks out of postop from a complete knee replacement. My doctor and Pt have been pushing my leg to the point where I am screaming. Your video that you did where you lay on your back and you put your legs up on the couch made so much sense. This video I just watched confirm that I’m OK my knee is very tight. But just on the top part and that’s good. I’ve only gotten to 90% and that’s OK. Before surgery I was on 4 tennis teams and walked 4 miles 4x a week. I am sleeping good and I am still moving around not just sitting on the couch but my body also need recovery. Thank you for your videos I will keep watching.

Thank you Tony. Your seasoned perspective is very useful. You speak with kind authority. If I were to just jump in on the first day post op, trying to do all the exercises and repetitions recommended by a PT educator in the pre surgical program I would need more pain meds and more energy and definitely an ambulance to pick up the pieces. They, nurses and therapists, probably said not to push too hard the first day post op. But, what sunk in to me is that I’m not going to make it if I don’t immediately get to it. Anyway, I’m listening to my body, following directions but not pushing beyond what I consider a safe zone for me…day 2, not moaning in agony trying for 15 min getting off the toilet.

Only issue is sleep l currently get about 2 hours followed by a 3 hour sleep then a final 2 hours before l get up, l am hoping sleep improves soon however l feel okay with no pain just aches at the back of the knee at night during the day things are great. That’s my update really pleased with the outcome the first weeks pain was worth it.

The video was super helpful to me, because I'm 4 weeks to the day December 25th. The surgery was successful and know sign's of infection, and my scar is looking great. To your point my range of motion is somewhere around 107- 115° my P.T. would like to see 120-130° which I think will come in time, because I'm still swollen on the knee cap and lower part of the knee. I also think my recovery will be a little longer due to having Arthritis for 10years and I was "bow" legged , with bone spurs on the inside knee.

I am hoping that I will have the flexion to be able to support the second knee when getting up and down and toileting by the time of my next surgery. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and positive reinforcement with us. I had PT today and it was so difficult! I'm having a hard time with flexion and I know I have to push more while working on flexion exercises at home. Your encouragement helps so much! Thanks a million!

Thank you. You’ve made me feel better after going to my PT twice a week and working on my knee at the gym for an hour everyday and feeling fatigued. After 6 weeks of my continuous bending improvements from 85° to 115° has now receded back to 110° on 7th week. Frustrating.
