One thing I found that really helps is using one of those furniture moving disks. Put it under your heel while in bed and do those heel slides. Makes a world of difference!!!

I'm nine weeks post knee replacement surgery and one week post manipulation procedure with a rom of 108. Every morning my knee is stiff beyond belief and feel as though pens are sticking in the incision along with burning sensations in the thigh muscles. I have been doing the exercises given to me by my therapist but every morning is like starting anew. It is discouraging. I will definitely incorporate your exercises into my regime.

Thank you for watching, these are very normal symptoms to experience as you rehab from surgery. My best advice is stay the course and continue to be consistent with your exercises and physical therapy. Although you may seem like nothing is changing, I can ensure you the exercises are beneficial. Hopefully, with a little time you will start to see gradual improvements. Best wishes to you!

I am 11 weeks post recovery. I am at 90 degrees, I am in pain all the time. My Lupus condition contributes to the swelling and pain. Thank you for your video.

Hang in there, 11 weeks post-recovery is still early in the healing process. It's tough dealing with pain, especially with Lupus adding to it. Keep following your treatment plan and stay strong. Sending positive vibes your way!

I am 6 weeks post-op and my range of motion is 126 degrees. I have not been able to get past that point without experiencing extreme pain along the incision in the center of my knee. Is there a way to reduce that pain and increase my range of motion? Thank you, Sammy
@KneeReplacementTherapists5 ай бұрын
The best way to overall is to continue to perform regular range of motion exercises. And the pain with end range of motion will decrease as you continue to heal…. But I will say 126 degrees is a great amount of motion especially at 6 weeks. Just be careful not to overdo your exercises to the point of exacerbating your pain and symptoms. Consistency more important than intensity.

I am 5 weeks out from TKR - I’m walking. Doing exercises/ I’m experiencing extreme pain at top of knee under patella when I try to lift my leg with knee bent.
@KneeReplacementTherapists9 ай бұрын
This movement with the addition of continued inflammation in and around the healing knee joint is likely causing increased stresses and forces through your kneecap. One thing to look at is the mechanics of this movement, excessive rotation and/or knee valgus (knee caves inward) at the hip and knee can increase stresses through the kneecap. Focus on continuing to restore good knee range of motion bend and straightening, practice good alignment and mechanics with all movements, and also include strengthening exercises for your quadriceps and hips / glutes. Hopefully you are connected with a physical therapist who has already started you down this path.

Person having Ffd 30 degree with further flexion up to 120 can do regular activities with out limping?
@KneeReplacementTherapists9 ай бұрын
I would say the amount of flexion range of motion you have is adequate but the biggest factor with limping will be how much your knee is fixed in flexion and varus position. If you are able to improve your extension at all that can help. It may be necessary to consult with your surgeon and healthcare team about alternative options if your limping does not improve and impacts your activity tolerance and quality of life. Best wishes to you and thank you for watching!

Help I have the band syndrome. It is like I have a band around my knee that will not allow it to bend. I'm 4 weeks out and scared to death. My doctor already said I'm doing awful and threatened to put me under for a manipulation procedure which would require 11 days of intense therapy. My problem is that when I came out of surgery my knee was twice the size it was before. I'm afraid this will cause more swelling and I'll be in the same shape! Any suggestions?
@KneeReplacementTherapists8 ай бұрын
This video describes this exact feeling: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3m4n4awgt6aoMU The best way to not need a manipulation under anesthesia as you describe is frequent stretching and range of motion exercises for bending and straightening. All the soft tissue around the knee is adapting to your new knee. The more you perform your exercises the tissue will adapt and this sensation will decrease over time. Think at least 3x per day going through your exercises between PT and by yourself. If you do need a manipulation under anesthesia these actually typically are very beneficial at improving range of motion and decreasing knee stiffness.

Hi Linda, i had a TKR on 2/23 and a week later 3/3 the weather was beautiful and my PT told me if I felt up to it is can go for a walk using my walker. So I was really feeling positive, the pain was minimal so off I went and DOWN i went my knee gave out and bent all the way back I felt like knuckles cracking in my knee and the pain was horrendous the scream I did was like someone was killing me in going back to the doctor tomorrow cause he kept me off me feet to let it heal. Hoping tomorrow I’ll be allowed to start pt again. Wishing you good luck and a quick recovery, regards Lilien

Is it possible to catch up if you have fell behind? I'm almost 4 weeks and my ROM IS 95 DEGREES
@KneeReplacementTherapists Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. You are still in the window where you can make notable improvements in your range of motion even if you may be a little behind right now. Although there is a range of "normal" now is the time to really be consistent with your exercises to get as much as you can.
@kbbowman86549 ай бұрын
😮 your comment has me very frightened as I am so behind because the first week and a half after surgery I was not able to go to PT due to a snowstorm and no one was coming to the house and of course I was not educated in the need to bend as much as necessary at the beginning… so I am at 80 at five weeks and I am scared to death to have any kind of manipulation because I have osteoporosis and scared that there may be a bone fracture in doing that procedure… Please give me some encouraging news that I can make it to 90 to 120 in the next three or four weeks without needing surgery… I am an active dancer, fitness instructor… Age 67 and I’m really getting depressed as well thank you for your videos
@kbbowman86549 ай бұрын
PS.. a special note to the tight band around the knee syndrome… Explanation/video! That was spot on because that was the exact feeling and you totally nailed why we feel that sensation… I’m planning to show that video to all the PT and surgeons at my clinic… Lol! Great job!

What.is the most rom that I can expect?
@KneeReplacementTherapists6 ай бұрын
A normal healthy knee has max knee flexion of 140 degrees. A goal for most knee replacement recipients is 120 to 125 degrees, in rare cases some people get a little more than that.
