Good morning Jennifer. I am an older woman and I have watched your channel for over a year now - and I have purchased your books and given them to my adult children. I am an Interior Designer, and a writer (first book coming out in 2025 - very excited), and feel relatable to you as a grandmother or mother would to a beautiful young girl. I have four grown daughters, all married and 8 grand-children who fill my life with love and blessing. I home-schooled all of my girls through 12th grade and they all went on to college and graduate degrees (including MD's). Why am I writing all this? To let you know that you inspire those of us in our late 60's and into 70's and beyond. You are poised and beautiful and elegant and wholesome. I am inspired by your grace. Thank you for all you do - and may the Lord richly bless you in all things. Love you very much.

I used to do ironing daily. Now I’m so lazy, I buy clothes that don’t need ironing. I am overweight today, and have fallen out of the habit of self care. Self care is an essential skill. I gave up caring how I look. My self esteem is terrible. This is a good reminder for me on some of the basics.

Prioritizing is key for me! If you identify that being overweight is the issue and the root of many problems, try working towards that first. I would say find an activity you're interested in (for me it's dancing) and try to incorporate it once per week and then slowly increase. If you're not even sure which activity, just start walking. Then after you feel like that you've been consistent, try something else example eating habits. For me that's fasting a few times a week or even just skipping meals on busy days. Check with your Dr and I personally noticed I do need to supplement with a multivitamin when fasting . Imo trying to fix everything at once is a disaster

The biggest thing for me has been showering at night. I wake up clean and ready to go. My no makeup makeup routine is the same as you…tinted sunscreen, eyebrows, mascara, lip balm. A quick but gentle brush through my hair then hair oil. I generally don’t paint my nails but could probably add a clear polish manicure to the routine to look even more put together. Thanks Jennifer!

My mother instilled in us from a young age to pick our outfits the night before. My sister and I would test different pieces together and match earrings or a necklace. It is second nature to me now! We have hooks in the children’s bedrooms to hang their clothing out at night - especially Saturday nights so Sunday mornings are less hectic getting out the door for church!

Even with a very inexpensive wardrobe, it is possible to look polished, chic, and dare I say, expensive. Tim Gunn's book A Guide to Quality, Taste, and Style is well worth the read. It's an easy, laugh out loud feel good guide to fashion. He says, and I quote, "Remember, cheap is chic!" And he goes on to tell you why. It's not really hard to look polished. It's a practice. And it's fun!

I always clean and check my shoes before they go back in my closet. In summertime this includes a wipe down of the footbed of my sandals to remove any dirt or perspiration. To me it's just the same as not putting dirty clothes back in the closet. My off season footwear is cleaned and boxed up to prevent it getting dusty or squashed.

This is a very helpful video. I usually pull my clothes for the next day because I firmly believe that wardrobe decisions should not be made when you're only half awake. 😂😂 I already implement most of these. I'm the sunblock, lotion, lip balm girl who has no fuss hair style that doesn't require any more care than a regular cut & color by my stylist. I'm working on nail care, and laundry is already on autopilot. I need to get my shoes in order. Thanks for all the great info.

I use the 10-Day forcast and I write this IN PENCIL in my planner. I check the forcast again the night before and update the information if the temperature or something else changes. I put the temperature at the very top of the space by the date and I also write an "R" if rain is likely. I use the very minimal makeup look as well because it is faster. I can't say that I always choose my outfit the night before. I am hit and miss most of the time, so I need to work on being consistent. I wash my hair every 3rd or 4th day which is about 2xs week. Unfortunately, I'm not very talented in giving myself a manicure and I just can't pay for them.
@219720121455255 ай бұрын
I would challenge yourself and stop writing the weather into your planner and use that time to pick your outfit! Maybe that will help develop consistency. It seems redundant to write it all down and then update when it's just faster and easier to check your phone the night before

(I do look at the weather for the week and consider my activities when picking those 5, too.) my 5 year old son and I have also started a routine where I show him two options and he picks the one I wear 😊 Since it’s warm now and for my hair type blow drying and straightening would be wasted, I started a hair science experiment (there is a chart and field notes) to see which combo of products gets me my best curly hair!

I would love to be at this level but with 3 kids 5 and under, I don't know how. The other day I was still in my nightgown when my neighbor came to the door and I was so embarrassed, I just stayed upstairs doing laundry while my husband answered the door and it's been bothering me ever since that I must have seemed so rude. Sadly, my haircare routine is washing it and putting it up in a topknot while it's still wet. I did manage to put on mascara before going on our walk today though 👍🤦♀️
@219720121455255 ай бұрын
That's ok. Nothing embarrassing about that at all. The neighbor doesn't know what he doesn't know. You could've been in the bathroom, showering, taking nap, not home, etc. don't worry about it! Combing hair is more important than putting on mascara. So start there! when you got time

So many great tips here, Jennifer. I prefer natural nails and I’m lucky to have strong nails that look good without anything on them. However, I wasn’t always good at cutting them at the right time, so they would grow too long and break. Now I make sure I have a proper routine for it and I can be proud of how they look.
@219720121455255 ай бұрын
Yes, I can't do long nails with my eczema. I try to cut them every 4-5 days. But I have heard acrylic nails help with eczema, but haven't tried it myself. I will try to paint my nails one time/month. But that hasn't been happening for quite a while now due to life. I try to avoid toenails unless it's a special occasion because imo constantly painted nails can lead to yellowing. I must be unique though as chipped nails actually don't bother me unlike others and just let the paint wear off on its own

Since it’s hot, humid and mosquito filled I wear a lot of linen. Daily makeup is some light foundation with sunscreen, blush and lipstick, never underestimate the power of lipstick. As others have said showering and washing my hair at night is and was a huge timesaver. I too, only wash my hair twice a week.

I've created the habit that after i wear something i assess whether i need to wash it or just steam it.if it's the latter, i do it right then. It takes a few extra minutes but saves so many headaches the next time i want to wear it. I've been really working on a Le no Makeup look.. one day, i had a dr appointment, errands to run and a facial. So i had nice dress, jewelry, , fixed my hair but only filled in my brows and wore lipstick--i couldn't believe all the compliments i received 🤔🤔so maybe i don't need a full face makeup everyday.. Still working on my shoes.. blessings xoxo Stacie

I have a question! Is it possible to look put together & polished while dressing in the Granola Girl aesthetic? My style has changed drastically since having my 5th baby two months ago. I used to dress very Bohemian Preppy with A-line silhouettes, but now with my body changing so much this pregnancy I am embracing the Granola Girl style with its practical, durable, outdoorsy, “effortless” natural style. I still shower at night every night and wash my hair 1x a week; I wash my clothes and delicate and hang dry every week; I lay out 3-5 outfits hanging in my closet so I can “grab and go” each morning, but my makeup routine has become the most minimal “Le no Makeup look” I have ever done (concealer, face powder, bronzer on cheekbones and eyelids, blush). Is it possible to look “polished” while wearing oversized National Parks tees, Birkenstock sandals, and linen joggers/or a flowy cotton maxi skirt?? I have been loving oversized tee shirts from The Mountain - I had always admired them but never given myself permission to wear them. I found a few on Poshmark, and they are so durable when I am getting baby spit up all over me 😂

What a waste of time...being chic is overrated (and I'm French). How about taking that time you spend thinking anout being chic and polished and use it to be your self! Be funny, be colourful, be sensual, be intelligent, feed your mind, feed your soul. Be compassionate. All that talk of elevating yourself is just a disgused way of showing you are superior. Be caring and loving and educate your mind so you can be free to make deciions, not to be above others.
