Justin, this is one of the best videos on KZbin related to music, the respect of music and those who depend on other musicians to make each event, not only enjoyable but professional to the maximum ability. You touched a lot of things here. I have enthusiastically watched you for the last couple of years and I have to admit something about your style. Your candid see really is one of the nicest touches that KZbin musically brings and that’s because of you. You’re a very cool player and always has such great taste and sounds. This video I like because it was so authentic and you didn’t edit it and I really enjoyed that. It felt like I was in the room with you. The truth is I’m super glad that you’re successful and that you have a career as a musician doing what you were born and worked your butt off to do and it shows. You’re an achiever, but you do it genuinely and honestly and it’s also really cool and nice to think that you have a wonderful family that’s behind you on all this And that you’re doing well. I couldn’t be happier to find someone like you out there on KZbin who inspires me who are really dig and is authentically a great person thank you Justin and I hope you have so much joy, knowing that you are an inspiration to us musicians and I’ve been playing for 45 years and I realize that most of the time I’ve spent noodling. I play well and people always compliment. Me and I am very grateful for those compliments believe me but when I see someone who’s done their work, their studies and also is socommitted to sharing a vision and their love for something that they have in life, which is this credible thing called music which saves lives helps people and inevitably is used at weddings and funerals for the same reason that it just is who we are. Thank you, Justin. You’re a real inspiration.

Wow Justin! I was just sitting here trying to come up with an inspiring drum part when I thought to myself, "I need some better drum loops and samples." I jumped over here to YT to maybe get inspired by a random backing track and noticed that you had just posted this video so I started watching when lo and behold - a plug for a fresh pack of drum samples! After you ran through a few loops, I knew I needed to grab it, so I did. About to dive in and see what it inspires today. Also, I've been working through your "Tools for the Creative Guitarist" and it's really been helping me fill in some gaps. It's a great course. Thanks a ton!

Great point about anticipating and getting over eager. Putting that one the grid with a short transient drum track peels back all the excuses we make and the "but this part sounded great, so that's good enough" story we tell ourselves to get onto a more fun part.

Great lesson man. And thank you so much for actually providing the individual tracks on those free jams. So often a free jam track is given in a single audio file. I always want to have the separate tracks so I can load them up in Reaper. Thanks a bunch!!

Thanks, Justin! 👍 I have NO background in "sessions," and very little experience playing with a group. I practice quite a bit, but I know it's not the same. I've always had great timing, anyone I've played with has made it a point to comment on it. But as far as I'm concerned, anyone can afford to be better at anything, so...I just want to keep getting better! I don't know if I would ever do any of those things, as I have a different career. However, music is a very important part of my life, and I wish I'd gotten more formal instruction. It would be cool to actually get the opportunity to participate in a session, or play a gig or whatever, so...I want to be prepared for anything! I can always wish, and hope...but the best idea (to me) is to BE PREPARED, just in case, the impossible does happen! (I'd much rather be prepared, and never be asked, than to be invited and NOT prepared, ending up embarrassing myself.). 😮 Thanks for these tips! Maybe in future videos, you could introduce more "terminology." In this video I learned about "chicks" and "diamonds," but you didn't explain what diamonds are. I might've figured it out, based on the example. I'd like to learn more!
@JustinOstranderАй бұрын
Diamond is Nashville-speak for a whole note. Some also use the term “football”. The context in this video is slowly raked chords that ring out. How do you pocket such a thing? To me the answer is by putting its “peak” just behind the beat.

Just all of your videos are so informative. I wish that everyone could hear what Evan has to say, even in the working world outside of music. Being on time and being a good hang and “a team player“ are really almost employers need. I am really curious, though about the actual steps you would take to someone looking for gigs in Nashville. I’ve heard studio musicians tell their story, and you shared yours here, but what would you do? Would you get a union card? Go to gigs and try to meet people? If you meet someone you want to work with, what do you want to see from that new person? A resume, a real of performances, Spotify playlist that they’re on? Thanks in advance.

Yes, professionalism. Like you say, even if you're not "into" a particular gig...if you accept it, agree to BE THERE, then you're expected to show up on time, fully prepared, and play like your life depends on it! That's "being a professional."

I love your videos and have learn alot from you ❤ In this video, do you record the guitar with the deluxe reverb and oxbox? Or is it a plug like neural tone King? I just bought a Deluxe Reverb, not a vintage but a 64 Custom handwired. I love that amp. Greetings from Sweden

I notice the metronome going too. How do you feel that affects your practice against a hard to anticipate upstroke since the metronome wouldn't be there live.
@JustinOstranderАй бұрын
A metronome has only ever made me a better player. I practice to a click. You should too for the reasons Evan mentioned. It doesn’t make me worse when one isn’t there. That’s not how it works IMO
@IvorThomasАй бұрын
Logic Pro doesn’t have any shuffles, and the ‘swing’ option doesn’t get you there. Does Evan have a MIDI collection of shuffles?
@JustinOstranderАй бұрын
Some of the beats have a swing to them. You’ll have to see which of his sample packs include shuffles. There are no midi files as far as I’m aware. Just high quality stereo wav files. For anything swung, we just leave the click on quarter notes only. A swung click is super weird to me…

@tomusic8887Ай бұрын
Actually, as a guitar player who likes to record and write songs, I kinda hate all these beats! Just a simple groove, not much accents, and also: ballads! And and please some soft, straight grooves , it's all loud and pretty unusual or very inflexible beats....we need straight& simple, both medium tempo&slow. and medium /loud and soft touch. Like the old blues records. ❤ love your channel and your tone and techniques are so cool jealous about your touch ❤❤
