There's not enough praise for this video. This is the first video that I've found that explains how to rationally choose which voice to use on which pad depending on our dominant and non-dominant hands. I recently started finger drumming. And I really hope that this makes me more adaptable when I first start. Hand position is crucial, whether you're playing the piano or typing on a laptop or computer. Certain hand positions are detrimental to one's ability to grow. I'll try searching for videos similar to this one before I begin. Thank You!!

Yamaha just released the new finger drum pad. Guess it’s finally time to learn this! I quit drumming years ago because I really couldn’t practice. And I don’t want to disturb my neighbors. But I still love drumming! This finger drumming looks very interesting and I’m glad there are people teaching how to play it. Thank you for the tutorial!

I have the yamaha fgdp 50 finger drum pad and just like this lad says ,it's set up exactly like a acoustic drum kit, it's a serious instrument in it's own right, I use it with my guitar and looper, couldn't recommend it enough 😊👍

It seems that this setup doesn’t make use of the thumbs - the Yamaha FGDP layout lends to using the thumbs. Thumbs are very powerful fingers and I love using them when playing the FGDP

hey man, just a tip: this video should have started with the part at 2:26. plugging your site at the start and going on about how most people do things wrongly without context just gives the viewer a reason to be highly sceptical (which i also was) until the demo part. great drumming man! 10/10

Hello sir, I doubt you remember me but I commented on “The trouble with the mirror setup” and I have an update. I actually arrived at a compromise between my thoughts and yours. Let me explain, my challenge was I am using a notation launchpad x with Logic Pro x and I absolutely love it. Minus one single issue. Small pads. Here’s what I did. I use drum machine designer in logic which gives a 4 horizontal by 8 vertical rows at the bottom which lets me mimic your setup but I get 2 vertical rows per piece instead of 1. Then at the top I get another 4x4 grid I use for supplemental percussion. I love it. Thanks for the suggestions.

That's awesome, I'm glad you found a setup that works for you! I definitely think it's important to experiment and explore different layouts, and I also think that finger drumming needs to have some kind of primary standard for beginners who aren't ready to spend a lot of time experimenting (sort of like standard tuning for guitar). That's why I recommend my acoustic drumkit layout to most people, and also encourage experimentation when desired. I'd be interested to see your pad layout in action one day!

Hello dragon, your realistic method of playing fingerdruming catches my attention it is very logical a question with this method could you play genres like drum and bass There is not much information on the internet and many are with mirror pad setups thank you so much!! soon I will subscribe to your course
@DragonFingerDrums Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can play any style of music you want with my layout! It's designed to be the best way to emulate playing a real drum kit on the pads. I played acoustic drums for 5 years before I learned finger drumming, and so I wanted a pad layout that would allow me to play anything I could play on an acoustic kit. So if you can play it on a drum kit, you can play it on my pad layout, and that includes drum n bass or any other style of drumming.

@DragonFingerDrums Жыл бұрын
I use Addictive Drums for all my finger drumming! I do like MODO Drum, but the demo alone took up almost double the space on my hard drive as the full Addictive Drums +5 packs, and it was also kind of a CPU hog. Addictive Drums is light, easy, and sounds great to me.

I'm am keyboardist and i wanna get into finger drumming so do you recommend dram pads or drumming with keys. And which drum pad do you recommend.
@DragonFingerDrums Жыл бұрын
I'd definitely recommend using a pad controller as opposed to keys, because it feels more like a real percussion surface vs. keys which bounce back. And my top recommended pad controller is the Maschine Mikro MK3, it's what I use and it's a fantastic combo of value and quality!

Epic - however, "back beat" refers to accenting the non-dominant beat and not the downbeat. In most music is 4/4, that would be 2 and 4 and performed by the left hand.

We can apply basic hihat concepts if we have a midi sustain pedal laying around. In our home studio, most of us have a midi keyboard integrated. I know it exceeds the definition of "finger" drumming but I did want to point that out anyway. Great content btw.
@DragonFingerDrums Жыл бұрын
This is a great point! I haven't personally experimented with a midi sustain pedal for finger drumming, but it's something I'll definitely look into.
@kristianborisov5928 Жыл бұрын
Having even two sustains, I was thinking about both bass drum and hi-hat playing with them. I guess the issue with the bass drum specifically would be the lack of velocity sensitivity, and I am wondering whether some bass drum pedal, like Yamaha KU100 could be used for closer to the real drumming experience, and freeing more fingers?

hi , i love your content , can you please tell me which finger pad size is best for drumming, like the size of novation launchpad X is small then the maschine micro , so which size is best for finger drumming please tell me
@AnshumanDimriimmortalhead Жыл бұрын
i mean the size of pads
@DragonFingerDrums Жыл бұрын
I'd highly recommend the Maschine size pads for finger drumming, because they're more like little drum surfaces at that size, which allows you to do a lot more with precision hits and even flams. However, there are some great finger drummers (like Nular) who use the Launchpad, so it's not a bad choice! Just a different setup from my own.

Hey, hey, wait a minute, you're completely wrong! Backbeat means playing the snare drum on 2 and 4 and not straight ahead beat on the hi-hat or ride (quarters, eighths or sixteenths). If you've been playing drums for that long, you should know that! That is the basis of drumming.
@DragonFingerDrums11 ай бұрын
You're right! I totally mixed up my terminology here lol. Meant to say pulse for the hi-hat and ride instead of backbeat.
