I use the "approaching from forehand, moving to backhand" move as my go to. I have only had trouble executing it with lower rated players. Since most of my team (and probably everyone else's) is loaded with high stats, this is pretty reliable.

Aka: unrealistic glitch goal
@marvinikurwa65077 жыл бұрын
One thing works for me if you are example left handed shot and coming from right. Just make big cut to middle and shoot puck straight forward to goal. Goalie will go to other way you are shooting. In my opinion its glitch goal, cause its works sometimes even from blueline. Breakaways seems much harder to score in this game.
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Yup! Those are goals scored from the breakout, I talk about those in my "The Secret to Shooting and Scoring Goals" video. I have to disagree about breakaways being harder to score. Your #1 priority should be breakaways, if you can't get those, then you go to the breakout, if you cant get a good chance on the breakout, you go to the cycle.
@marvinikurwa65077 жыл бұрын
Brianstormed Maybe its harder for me because in NHL 18, the deking rating means more than any other NHL game. If you have bad rating you lose the puck. But for me it feels harder than NHL 17. Maybe some training ... And I will score better from breakaways. ;)
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah you don't want to deke in NHL 18 unless you are using a 90+ OVR player. Its just not worth having the chance to lose the puck.

Does the toe drag not work anymore? It was my go-to every time in prior chels
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
+James Tait it exists, it doesn't go in as often, and it's really easy to lose the puck. That's why it's not a recommend breakaway to do. Maybe if you were using a 99 OVR it would be more feasible.
@jamaltatums7 жыл бұрын
Damn, that sucks to hear. It worked with literally third pairing defencemen for me last year haha
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Yeah its mostly because of the new deking system. Any dekes you do will cause you to lose the puck if your stats are too low. Thats why I made sure I did this video with a weak player that can't deke well so that you'll have a much easier time with higher rated cards.

Hey, Brianstormed! Do you have an opinion when on a break away on right-handed goalies versus left-handed goalies? Is one easier than the other? Are there moves that you should do more often on the glove side or the blocker side?
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
I've always felt blocker side is much easier because the goalie has to lift up his blocker to make the save and its a little harder to control. BUT, these moves can be done on both sides so its not a big deal. I hope one day we live in a world where the EA game will make each goalie feel different and have their own strengths and weaknesses. (Spoiler alert for NHL 19 Wishlist)

Help! What do you recommend to get a breakaway? This is for the challenges against the computer to get rewards like an evo collectible. I've tried switching up my strategies, trying to get a steal on the pk but nothing that is consistent for when these challenges come out. Especially frustrating against a superstar computer.
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
I have a video that can help you complete challenges here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJ7bcnuLhst6p7c But if you can go up by a goalie, you can position lock toward the end of the game and sit up top waiting for the puck and shoot at an empty net.
@GhostKnife137 жыл бұрын
On the "pretty" moves, did it take a long time for you to get them down? Also it seems that the start timing on most of the dekes is still between the hashmarks. have you found that to be true?
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
It didn't take too long to try them, but getting the right angle and position down did take a few attempts. Even when I'm playing I can find myself being a little too far to one side or doing them a little too early so the goalie has more time to stop it. Best to them as late as you can. Yeah I found between the hashmarks a good indicator for your positioning prior to the dekes. But it would really depend on how fast you can pull them off. I think the sweep deke would be more closer to the goalie, as well.

So it's possible to get around the backskating defenders for once? in NHL 16 they were so fast it was annoying. That screwed me from getting so many breakaways it was just nuts!
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Its the same as every year, it seems harder this year but honestly you should have been able to do it in NHL 16 and 17. It may be because you didn't have the right strategies set up so that your players are further up to go past your opponent.
@collintag737 жыл бұрын
thx for the reply! I've tried every setup and strategy in 16 (didn't buy 17) and the backskating Dmen move so fast, even 90+ speed wingers can't get around them most of the time. I do get an occasional one but going by the situations I should be getting a lot more. Most of my best chances for a breakaway get screwed over by missing the "seamless" puck pick ups or some sort of phantom slow down that allows the D to catch up. I made a short YT clip about it even. Was hoping they had addressed some of that.
@DG-dh8yj7 жыл бұрын
I mean when you have the difficulty setting to rookie it's pretty easy to get past the defenders and the goalie like that
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
I play on Superstar against the AIs and get plenty of breakaways, thanks for your concern though.
@collintag737 жыл бұрын
Well still being on NHL16 I turned the acceleration slider for CPU all the way down and for human all the way up and I manage to get SOME breakaways now. But there is this artificial slowdown that happens at the blue line a lot of the time that is insane and I think that is part of the problem. I stole a pass literally 15 seconds into a game and had 5 strides on the d-men...until I hit the blue line. My player slowed dramatically and the d-men both caught me and poked the puck away before I had a chance to shoot. Happened again later in the same game. It's lame. I hope NHL 18 doesn't have that because I really would like to upgrade soon.

Hi there, i have a little problem with forehand backhand. Always when i want to shoot backhand infront of the goalie, the player always shoots forehand,so that he nerver shoots backhand goals. Hope u can help me
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Hmm, it could be your positioning, so if you end up stickhandling to your backhand, but you skate toward your forehand, your stick will look like its on the forehand even though you could bring it back further out. Try to skate toward your backhand and see if the shot will go from the backhand.
@xEclipsEvox7 жыл бұрын

Try holding the initial backhand for a little longer as you come closer to the goalie, and then quickly go to the forehand and back to the backhand and shoot. Try skating faster or try skating slower. If its not that then maybe its your aiming with the left stick.

Question: Am I the only one having trouble getting one timers from my players in HUT? My dmens cant shoot a one timer, neither can my forwards and it's a bit annoying
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
For forwards, I learned that you either are trying to get 1Ters through breakouts or through cycling. It'll be tough to get both. That is the difference between having your wingers play on their offhands or not play on their offhands.

@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
The toe drag is the best one (well maybe tied with backhand forehand backhand) if you are using like a 90+ OVR player that won't lose the puck easily, for the lower overalls you risk losing the puck before even having a chance to shoot it.
@CaRnAgE-om2zc7 жыл бұрын
Toe drags are still great
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
They aren't as powerful as last year, but yeah they can still score. The problem with them this year is that with a low OVR player you'll lose the puck trying to do them making them not as effective.

I'm not saying you have to always do what you call the pretty moves I'm just saying it's an easy way out rather than making a real move. Cause with the first five moves I believe, you are taking advantage of the AI goalies programming rather than challenging your abilities.
@Brianstormed7 жыл бұрын
Not quite. One of the changes this year (or was it last year?) is that the goalie doesn't "bite" on the first move as often, and it is noticeable because sometimes he does make the save. What would you consider a "real move"? As far as I know, NHLers have done all these breakaway moves. Its not like you are doing something unrealistic.

These aren't glitches, breakaways are meant to be high percentage opportunities and it doesn't matter which of these breakaway moves you do, you won't score 100% of the time.

Brianstormed by the looks of you're video you score them 100% of the time it people like you who ruin the game by exploiting glitch goals

I bet you only saw the first move and thought they were all going to be like that. If you take fatigue, timing, and pressure into consideration you'll end up messing up the move more than you think. That is just under perfect conditions.

Its not a glitch goal though. A glitch goal looks like the wrap around where the goalie comes off the post and you can score it 100% of the time. A glitch goal is the Bacon Slapshot (from NHL 13/14 -- not the later ones) where you should have no business scoring from the corner of the ice.

That third way to score is complete garbage and shows just how poorly this game is made. This video should just be called how to score glitch goals
