Great tips Dan - as a streamer junkie , I find this works well on River Smallmouth as well. Different streamer color variations are essential too

Thanks for the tips. I’m just starting out in fly fishing, but I’ve been fishing night crawlers in rivers for 40 years. I do a lot of the same things. On the swing it also works well to slowly pull the bait/streamer up river once it gets close to the bank. Pull it a foot or two and let it sit, then pull it a little more.

Thanks Dan I was swinging an olive bugger last week and remembered your tip "outside mend" I ended up catching a 12in rainbow and a decent whitefish that both took the fly on the outside mend

Thanks for sharing Dan. I have used many of those streamer techniques successfully. One occasion I dropped one streamer into an inside curve undercut bank on a Driftless Iowa stream and got crushed by a nice Brown. Fun.

So many people just fish them mechanically, and get disappointed by how few fish they are catching. Streamer fishing still isn't very popular here in Scotland, the majority of people seem to only really fish small wet flies on rivers, casting across and down repetitively all day, which catches fish but is pretty unexciting. I've been doing that mending trick for a long time and it's really effective, I feed slack in sometimes too to let it dive for the riverbed then quickly throw a mend to make it dart up off the bottom in a different direction, and it often produces fish when nothing else does.

Streamers can be a lot of fun. The fish are rarely tentative. Im still waiting for a streamer that works as well as a rapala. But steamer fishing is more rewarding

I always wondered about tying on a streamer under an indicator on a lake. I’m going to try that next time. Thanks
@FlyFishDan Жыл бұрын
Works awesome - just be sure to give it a little movement (finger-roll and a little twitch now and again). Cheers!
@rowangliori7658 Жыл бұрын
Yep, even better suspend it under a floating fry type pattern, fish'll take that too. Looks more natural than an indicator too, especially when you're giving it a little movement.

Great videos, from 🇨🇮🇨🇮 what rod,line and reel set up,would you recommend for streamer fishing, have to try this style of fishing,
@FlyFishDan Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I would recommend the FFD6 ( fishonrods.com ) and the 'compound float' line from Cortland ( www.cortlandline.com/FLYFISHDAN ). Big shooting head for streamers. Hope that help! Cheers!

Hey FFD, I never used streamers or striping line before. But , of course, I see you doing it in your videos. I just spent 8 days in eastern oregon. I went up to a high elevation mountain tributary stream. I used a streamer an got a fat 12” rainbow and a 14” bully. Just wanted to say thanks ! - Keith Ps. Go Ducks

@aaronclarkt6 ай бұрын
awesome!
@rowangliori7658 Жыл бұрын
Hahaha yeah, dammit, the upstream cast is deadly. Now the secret is out! If you tuck the rod under your arm and use both hands to retrieve as well it gives you more control. Plus it means you HAVE to strip-strike, which i find works far better for hookups on streamers
@FlyFishDan Жыл бұрын
Great tip! Love that tactic for sure!
