Tucking my pinky in had never been a consideration for me because I had tried it once and was uncomfortable with the feel years ago. This is something that I'm going to have to revisit. Thanks Elise!

Done! That’s what I needed to hear: “..more hook in the front part of the lane.” Yes! Vs an otherwise great shot that suddenly goes Brooklyn like my out-of-box Ocean Vibe (which is getting its first haircut tomorrow).

I throw almost all lower end equipment (I’m old and slow). 😊 I have a Storm Electrify BSY that I was struggling to control and I asked my PSO to shine it. He said “So, you want an expensive White Dot?” He ended up resurfacing the ball to I think 2000 (this was a while ago), and the change in ball reaction was amazing. This was a really good video, Elise!

Excellent teaching video. Working at a pro shop, people under value surface adjustments whether it be a new ball purchased or building their arsenal. While we provide lifetime surface adjustments for free for balls purchased at the pro shop, customer do not leverage the service because the lack understanding the impact it can have. Nice job!

Excellent video and informative. Right now, I have only 3 balls in my bag not counting my spare ball which is a WD Patriot which I only use for 7 pins, yes if you're guessing I'm a lefty high speed low rev. My favorite ball right now is the X-Cell which I keep the surface at it's out of the box finish that seems to work best for me compared to adding more surface and or polishing it up. Next favorite is my TNT Infused which I keep the surface at it's out of the box polished finish, I've not had to change the surface on this ball whatsoever no matter what the lane conditions and oil patterns maybe. Finally, but definitely not least is my TNT which I keep at a 500-grit dull, I've tried polishing the surface and it becomes a nightmare for me. It will work for me ok at its original out of the box finish but not nearly as good as the 500-grit dull finish does. Those 3 balls right now have been enough for me to tackle any lane condition and oil patterns thus far. You and your family have a good, safe and blessed rest of yer day and upcoming weekend.

I liked the info about how polishing or sanding can get you the reaction that would fit one's game. Specifically, about someone purchasing a bowling ball and thinking it doesn't work for them. Great info especially with how much a bowling ball can cost these days.

Favorite Part in the Video: Adding Surface It's a game changer, I've begun to play around with it and boy does it matter. So many old bowling balls now have new life again with surface, and a fresh detox...
@texasplumr

I've done this for years and don't have a spinner. Yes, a spinner does a much better job of polishing and adding surface. But it isn't absolutely necessary. When we're warming up I have Abralon pads in my backpack and don't hesitate to add surface if it is needed. For those new to bowling it is illegal to alter the surface after the game starts so do it while warming up. CTD makes a good hand applied polish if you don't have a spinner. It is supposed to reach 5500 on a spinner and 4500 by hand. I don't have any way to check the accuracy of that but it works for me. Good video! I especially enjoy your ball reviews because at 70 years of age I find I throw the ball a lot like some women now. Not nearly as accurate as you but our ball speed and revs are pretty close. 😁

I thought the rule about changing surface only applies after the ball has been put into play for that game. For example, if I play the 1st game in league and I want to change the surface before the 2nd game starts I can. Or, if I want to change to a ball, in the middle of a game, one that has not yet been used in that game, but I want to change the surface before I use it, I can, so long as I don't alter the surface of the ball during the game once it has been put into play. I believe this is the rule as I understand it. Same thing applies to cleaning your ball with a cleaning solution.
@squidly2112
@squidly2112 Ай бұрын
Update, I just watched one of JR's recent videos where is explains that once competition starts, you cannot change the surface of ANY of your balls, apparently. I didn't know that, I thought as long as the ball had not yet been in place for the game being played, you could change the surface. But perhaps I am wrong about that. Good thing I haven't done that in competition or I may have had a due awakening. Referring to the official USBC rules (that I just looked up), you CANNOT change the surface of ANY of your balls once "competition" has begun, AFTER the "practice" period has concluded. You can change during the 10min practice session, but once that has concluded you cannot change the surface of your ball.

WOW, this was amazing to watch and to learn. I have a Motiv Venom Hyper and I'm going to not only use the pads, but polish it too. I also through a Pink black widow urethane for my spare shots and I'll do some work on that too. I don't have a lot of speed, so you showing about tucking the pinky was one thing I'm now going to try. Loved that Radical for sure :)

Surfacing is huge! I have learned quickly (well, after several months of being too afraid to try 😂) that adjusting by sanding, compound, polish, or a combination of these takes a ball from feeling useless to being a good ball fast. I just finished resurfacing my Perfect Mindset (500, 1500, 2000) because it had lost its tack. While watching this video, I took my Theorem (500, 1000, 1500, compound) back to out of box to get that hook back. My Venom Black (which I was ready to sell because I hated that ball at every grit tried) I took back to 4000 and polished it. No hook, but it's finally predictable and usable. Next I'll take my old Rhino down to 500 and compound. I do it all by hand since I don't have a spinner, but it's worth the effort to make a ball work with you instead of against you. I absolutely love that Mesmerize, by the way. Hopefully, I'll grab one someday. Awesome video, Elise!

I find that in the summer on my local lanes, polish is almost mandatory. I have had the most success with big asym balls like my Reality and BW3.0 and when I go to a place that I have never bowled, I will typically go with a couple of polished balls, but also have a pad ready to knock off the shine if during practice I see I need some surface
