Mine climbs the walls almost to the tile at 70% pump speed with most suction to cleaner line. It has also at times, when pump is higher speed or suction level too high, it has gone as high as the top of the side tile enough to pop out of the water sucking air. Sometimes tips over as it comes back off the wall, but will right itself. I have a new pool, 5 months old, just cleaned the filter, so trying to readjust the Trac-Vac. Does a great job cleaning pool. I also added a inline filter between Trac-Vac and side inlet.

You should mention instead of having your pump prime the hose, do the hand over hand menthod of priming the hose, or using a pool brush and pole, prime the hose by working the hose back to the Hayward(use the pole bruch to push down the hose for the air to escape and then connect the hayward..), to force all of the air back out of the hose. You forgot to mention that as a step...
