I love my 9 year old Hayward Navigator and was very disappointed when it got stuck going forward all the time. So I turned to KZbin, the fountain of all knowledge, for a solution and found your series of four videos. I was extremely impressed by the clarity and quality of your instructions. When I removed the gears from the rectangular gearbox I found the tiniest of seeds, about the size of a grain of barley but quite hard, wedged between the 2nd and 3rd gears. Surely, I thought this tiny seed could not be the cause of my problem. I reassembled the unit and performed the "hang" test, thoroughly exercising my index finger, and discovered that everything was back in order. Now my Navigator is back at work scurrying around my pool. Thank you and God bless.

that little blue bracket thingymabob that bridges over the pods is SUPER important! I unscrewed everything on my navigator to see if there was something stuck in there cuz it wouldn't move and no leaves were collecting in the pump basket and I noticed that blue bracket was just floating around in there not connected to anything. I guess the screw came loose and the screw got lost somehow. anyway, found a new screw and reattached it and the navigator is MOVING! Thanks for your video. I had no idea where it even went when it fell out of my navigator when I took it apart so I searched on KZbin and found you and there it was plain as day (3:35) Thanks again!

I found BOESHIELD T-9 waterproof lubrication spray into the disassembled gear box, let it set over night and reinstall. T-9 has waxes for a lubricant and seem to free up the gear box. I have been using this vac for about 20 year and I'm on my 3rd one. Sweep Fins and the updated V-Flex Extended Upgrade Kit are also a nice upgrade.

I replaced the turbine making sure the rollers were seated in the groves and being careful to not let it move while putting it back together. I replaced the gear box, A frame, pods, shoes and wings and it moved some and does pick up the dirt when it does vacuum so the suction is fine. I also bought new hoses and probably could of bought a new hayward on sale by now, but I'm invested and thanks to the youtube videos at 70 female and like learning how to do things myself after taking it and paying over a hundred to get it fix at Lesile and ripped off. One thing I member hearing was be careful removing the two skews are to reach under the one flap and I did but I have noticed now it is full back exposing the skews so it's been tweeked and now I'm ordering new ones of those too. The only thing left after that is the main gear that controls the movement of the hose connected to the vac but I tested it and it moves very well, guess well have to see if the replacing the flaps will be the final nut to fix this thing. Thank you guys for the time and effort to help us trouble shoot these things; they can be intimidating but with a little or a lot of patience they are repairable until they don't sell the parts any more.

@@mbjdiy1778 I agree you can replace all the various parts as long as they are available; it beats 400.00+ for a new one. I also agree probably best to just replace everything (rebuild) every couple of years or you will be driving yourself crazy finding where the problem lies since it could be so small it's hard to detect. I will be inspecting it before summer hits from now on. I know a lot more since I started this project which is great to understand how the suction/drain/skimmers operates and affects the sweeper. Ordered a flow gage Och, but very helpful to determine if the suction level is right coming through the hose in order for the vac to operate properly and make adjustments as needed. I also learned how to test the sweeper using the skimmer if the problem is suction or vac (need a hose connector for that test or alternative port for the sweeper). How hoses can have a impact due to a leak and replacing with enough hose to reach the longest distance of the pool from the outlet plus 2 more hose sections as it has to go down too. I learned the shoes, flaps, wings, pods all have L/R positions and it's easy when working upside down to put on the wrong side (I did with 2 of them!). I also replaced the turbine/bearings, but guess what after I put it all back together I pick up the piece of paper included in the turbine package and I discover a little previously unknown tid bit not mentioned on the videos I watched on how to change it out "there are notches on the plastic portion of the bearing casing and you have to fit it into the corresponding notch in the frame in sits in !!! Can't understand after how informative the videos are, no one mentions this part. I knew I didn't do that part of the instructions, so not even going to try and put it in the pool after all the effort and expense to get this thing working again to just hope it works is just not an option, so I tore it down again and sure enough it wasn't seated in the notches. Then you have to be careful trying to put the housing back on top sliding the vent into the grove all while making sure to not let it slip out of the grove again which might take a few attempts with steady hands as it did me until I felt I got it on without any movement. So the bottom line is, YES IT IS WORKING AGAIN AND CLEANED THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF THE POOL LAST NIGHT, :). Only thing is it is still not full speed ahead and seems to rise up on one side when turning so only thing left to check is flaps/adjustments. Found this manual with lots of great info too. www.hayward-pool.com/assets/documents/pools/pdf/literature/pv-ownersmanual.pdf I also beleive in staying with original manufacturer parts (OEM) which we all know will cost more I know. I compared the after market parts the pool store put in and saw some differences. I find Big name manufacturers insure their parts are proprietary and nothing else will work as well even if made in China while they say it is made in the US! Here's another presentation by Hayward that that goes through proper setup. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHPElYqgi5eenKc

Thank you very much for your instructional, in-depth videos! You have a very easy style to listen to which makes it a pleasure to view and learn from - congrats! I'm at my wits end as to what could be going wrong with my Hayward Navigator Pro. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TYIA. I have completely disassembled my Hayward. The "A" frames are fine, the bearing have no gaps (they may have been not clicked into their grooves - now done), the gearbox is fine as the cleaner turns both left and right, I have replaced the feet - all seems to be well. My Hayward will move forward 2 or 3 feet, then stop. Then suddenly go again for 2 or 3 feet, then stop. I cannot understand this stop starting. Any ideas on how to rectify this situation, please? When I suspens the Hayward in the (concrete) pool, the feet are working fine.

@@mbjdiy1778 Thanks very much for the advice. I have checked all the hoses and they appear fine. I did the hang test and it turns both ways. Did the suction test and is centred on the gauge between Max and Min. Pulled the unit apart again and upon inspecting the bearings on the A frames there appears to be a gap between the ball bearings. Is the bearing meant to be full? Strange that they all have just one (it appears) ball missing. I remembered you talking about the gaps created in the turbine bearings and want to know if this is the same. Thanks again for your help! 🙂

I have a similar problem and I have replaced almost all of the parts. One thing I don't see mentioned in the other replies could be the left and right pods. Apparently if they aren't tightly secured the navigator will not move well. I remember the first time I removed mine they were very tight and I was worried about plastic damage during removal. If yours are not tight then perhaps they need to be tightened more. Be careful, the components are plastic and can break if they are older but maybe this will work.

I had the same problem. After opening the navigator several times all the way and checking everything, i could not find anything wrong. I ordered a new gear box. But the new gear box is few days away from arriving. Then I read that one should blow hard at the gear box opening to see if you hear all the gears spinning. I opened it one more time and blew at the opening of the gear box. Initially it was not spinning freely but blowing fee more times it started to spin fast. Putting the navigator back, it seems to be turning both ways and does not stay on one side of the pool. I was pleasantly surprised. Well, give it a try and see if it helps your problem of the navigator turning one way only.

Thank you for that great video. I have been using these type of Hayward clears for 16 year. I'm on my third one. The first two worked real good for about 4 years before I had to do anything to them. But this third one after just one year it stopped moving. I have checked everything you suggested and everything looked good. But it does not move. I borrowed my neighbors Hayward cleaner and put it in my pool and it work great. So I know the problem is not in the pump. I also checked the part where the hose hooks up to, it moves freely while the cleaner is not in the poor, But once I put it in the pool and it gets suction it does not move as freely. Would you know what else it could be?

most recommendations will be to replace the turbine and A frame usually the culprits, I've replaced about everything and it has improved but not up to speed. Just bought a suction gage to check it at the hose end and new flats and the little blue adjuster thing a ma jig one of the flaps wire sits in. Then you can adjust it to 1,2 or 3 for different results. I posted the a video by Hayward above and the manual for it too.

Hello, well done videos. I've watched all 4 videos several times & now I know everything I ever needed to know about the Navigator PRO. ☺ My issue started a couple of weeks ago, when my 2014 Navigator PRO 925ADC started slowing down to a crawl. After completely cleaning every possible part, changing shoes, wings, pods, flaps, A-frame, turbine, & bushing, it is now moving again except that it's now dancing to the right only. Great little circles but not the way I'd like to see it. What have I missed? And, after spending $150 on parts, do you think I should have been better off purchasing a new cleaner? If yes, what will be your recommended model? Thanks, Orly
