Isn't sugar literally as addictive as drugs like cocaine? I remember reading a study about how they did a study with two rats - one was given sugar water and one with cocaine water - and the rat with the sugar water showed a behavioral pattern of increased intake, withdrawal symptoms, and relapse behaviors conpared to the rat with cocaine water. There's also studies about how sugar mimics the same neurochemical changes in the brain as hard drugs. Maybe it's because I'm an athiest, but this rule literally makes no sense and you can clearly see that these Mormon girlies have a bad sugar addiction.

6:44 so as someone that’s been born and raised in Utah, I’ve got to correct one thing. People here didn’t suddenly start soda mixing in the ‘10s. That’s just when people realized they could build businesses around the concept. At least since the ‘80s (that I’m aware of, I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s gone on longer than that) there’s always been a contingency of Utahns that have mixed their sodas when going to any fast food place, or restaurant where the soda dispenser was accessible. Though, prior to these shops and the internet normalizing the term “dirty soda” this has been more commonly referred to colloquially as “swamp water” or “kitchen sink soda” because before the shops “dirty” always implied there was alcohol mixed in.

If something is truly a vice for, you would try to free yourself completely from your emotional dependence on it. The degree to which you enjoy/use something is entirely up to you 😊 But if you're uncomfortable with your emotional dependence on something, than you shouldn't be trying to substitute one vice with another no matter how seemingly harmless. The dynamic of emotional dependence is still there 😮😅🤷♀️🙈 If you give yourself no leeway or compassion, and don't tackle the root of your dependence you're gonna re-create this dynamic over and over in your life

My theory is that it adds the creaminess they’re looking for in their Starbucks substitute while having a fruity taste that tends to mesh better with a lot of the soda flavors like Mountain Dew/sprite

English is not my first language but when I hear hot drinks it suddenly reminds me of alcohol. Drinks that make you feel hot sensation inside the body? I have no ideas it made more sense to me that way.
@Itsbabygirlt2 ай бұрын
I get what you mean, but in this context, hot drinks means non-alcoholic beverages, because Mormons are not allowed by their religion to drink alcohol…. So coffee and tea

I am not Mormon and never have been, and I love coffee. But I would totally go to one of these soda shops if they expanded into less LDS filled states. Just to have a different kind of business. People buying soda know it has sugar, it’s not like people don’t know. So do starbucks coffee drinks.
@Itsbabygirlt2 ай бұрын
They are already expanding to other states that are less LDS

Just because Mormons have "Jesus Christ" in the name of their church, doesn't mean they are Christians. As Christians follow the Bible, not the book of Mormon. They also don't have beliefs that aren't in the Bible, like becoming a god, or getting sealed in a temple, believing that GOD, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are 3 separate beings, having a polygamy family, thinking that black people are cursed by GOD, among other things.

I’m an ex mormon and I feel like the issue with this is that people take advantage of soda as like a loophole, but truly the word of wisdom is to avoid all addictive substances and things harmful to the body because the point is to treat your body like a temple, and soda is so far from being good for your body like I could tell whoever did the morning soda ritually was like definitely more concerned of taking advantage of like the “rules” and potential loopholes instead of following faithfully to the intention of the rules and you could basically apply that to everything else in their life and see what kind of mormon they were based on that alone (like people who perform other sex acts instead of vaginal sex and then claim they haven’t had premarital sex but in reality they had) and that is a characteristic of not truly being saved by the standard of Christianity because the Bible says you know the tree by the fruit and if your whole heart isn’t turned then… you can fill in the rest.

As someone raised conservative Muslim, it's so funny how hard religions try to prevent addiction with massive restrictions, but that just makes the temptation far worse. People WILL find a way around the rules and just indulge in vices the church never considered.

When I was a kid, a root beer float was a special treat, like maybe a twice-a-month thing if my parents bought ice cream and a big bottle of root beer. You'd have one and that was it! How these people can guzzle so much sugar on a daily basis is beyond me. I once ordered a chai latte from a coffee shop that was much, much sweeter than I thought it was going to be, and I felt so ill.

Sonic has been in the drink concoction game for a while… they’ve just recently added the “dirty” idiom to their drinks within the last year or so… I guess they’ve been my intro to this drink culture lifestyle but I only ever get the Route 44 cranberry or cherry limeades… but adding coconut cream to those ugh… so good.
