@@theredmentv Absolutely brilliant interview. You have a passion for stats and data (as we all know), have actually read the book cover to cover and understood it deeply. So Ian had the unusual pleasure of being asked questions he was actually interested in talking about (beyond just selling the book) and we got more of a sense for his enthusiasm, personality and contents of the book from this interview than all the other ones put together. Also got well more out of him in terms of details and behind the scenes than anyone else. Take a bow, son ;)

Great interview. Jurgen Klopp created some amazing records that will last forever. The first team to clinch the title having won every single home game. 35 wins and one draw out of 36 league games. Starting a season with 26 wins and a draw from the first 27 games. Winning the title with SEVEN games to spare. Thrashing your greatest rivals 5-0 away and 7-0 at home for life time records. Thats only a few. He is a legend

Ian is one of those people, like Edwards and Ward, that FSG trust implicitly. If he wants ANY sort of position at LFC, full time, part time, he'll could have it tomorrow. The club will have been sad to lose him, but 11 years is a long time to stay in one workplace. I hope he enjoys his break and I will be getting his book as soon as possible. Seems like a lovely fella.

He does, but I'm pretty sure Will Spearman is more than competent to take up his mantle. Ian mentioned on a different interview that part of the reason he thought it was time was to give Will and other people under him a chance for career progression.

i am looking forward to reading this book , i think arne is fully on board with this stuff aswell which is exciting for me . take someone like diaz who i have had a few discussions about this weekend lol we all know his carrying the ball is up there with the best but his goals and assists could be better so in theory its just a matter of getting him to take those shots from better positions , arne said this about nunez the other day in the presser "getting him into those positions" . the question i suppose is can they learn to do that , diaz is very coutinho like as in he likes to shoot under pressure from outside the box after cutting in and across , so its a worldie or a miss and on xg that means 9 misses for a worldie , salah does similar but normally inside the box so better xg . diaz had .89 xg this game so it would appear he is trying to get into better positions which is promising . i have a feeling by the end of this season it will be salah right nunez up top and gakpo left as they all have the triple threat graham was talking about , as does anthony gordon so no surprise we were linked with him who i assume will be salahs long term replacement .

Real question is: How did a team that was a powerhouse built by Klopp and Edwards over 2 or 3 seasons, then fall away to a challenge every other season, and an fight for top-4 in between those? Give the answer without talking about City, the title winning LFC team would beat them most seasons.
@siempra78
@siempra78 24 күн бұрын
Ian Graham gave you the answer at 14:15s; We heard Graham & (then) Edwards know "that overpaying for old players is a classic mistake for football clubs", but on 20th September 2020 we see a massive contradiction: an Edwards data-driven signing of a 23 year old Jota (19th September) Vs a Klopp nostalgia-driven signing of a 29 year old Thiago (who became the 2nd highest-paid LFC player on arrival). Even on his way out Klopp wanted LFC to do the "classy thing" and extend Matip's contract when arrived as an injury-prone player. Klopp's loyalty to his players was his achilles heel and that is why so many of his Champions League-winning team left on free transfers: Wijnaldum, Origi, Keita, Firmino, etc. A different manager would try to cash in and sign a replacement or upgrade.

@varunr1984
@varunr1984 22 күн бұрын
@@siempra78 I am glad someone highlighted this point so precisely. I have been wanting to cite the sheer number of free transfers that have emanated from a record-breaking title-winning team, which can only mean emotion took precedence over logic and ambition. Klopp, for all his world-class abilities, had two major shortcomings that prevented him from joining Pep (and Ferguson before him) in the class of PL's greatest managers. First, the aforesaid loyalty. Second, a marked tendency to rate a player purely on how they performed against our team, and not through the entire season. That strategy worked when he selected Mane and Wijnaldum (which I believe was backed by data as well), but backfired when he chose Diaz and Nunez. Because, if we are being totally honest, Diaz is a highlight reel without the end product, and Nunez is merely a highlight reel for bloopers. The mere fact our best players are still the stalwarts from our last title-winning season (Vvd, Salah and TAA), tells us recruitment and squad turnover have been shoddy since.

The guy doesn't work at Liverpool any more so of course he's going to talk about the past, what should they do given a chance to interview some one like Ian Graham?? Sorry we will pass on that because Ian never worked under Slot? if that was the case they wouldn't get to interview anyone intresting. Instead they get a window into how Liverpool work under Mike Edwards now!!
