Edit: Just got close to the end and saw "Other Sources" in your credits. @@RetroGamingNow I just wanted to ask you why did you choose endermen as candidats of the once advanced species? Is it because you didn't want to theorize about humans being the builders to not being in the shadow of matpat? I ask you because to be fair most of the structures you presented in your last videos are not built for endermen, the entrances are 2 blocks talll and the fact that endermen, the great powerful builders, couldn't defeat a dragon while a dude came out of nowhere can, is just ridiculous, plus the egg doesn't make the dragon respawn, the crystals do. Not only that but the fact that they can spawn in the overworld even tho you they were trapped in the end, as you said, disprooves the whole idea of them being defeated by a dragin tyrant I don't want to insult your theories, it's just it feels ... to not make much sense

Fun fact: there are disturbing noises of a possible sea monster when exploring deep underwater in Minecraft and that explains why there are so many shipwrecks in the oceans. That also explains why many of the shipwrecks are destroyed like broken in half and why guardians are so protective of their monuments. Edit: perhaps the sea monster looked similar to the common squid but much bigger as guardians are very hostile towards squids. The sea monster had to be at least as big as the biggest shipwrecks you can find as the monster had to be powerful enough to sink these ships. These squid titans could also have caused the demise of the ancient builders. My theory goes that as the ancient builders were carrying cargo across the ocean plenty of times and at any given moment, there are at least a few hundred ships sailing. Their economy was booming when the thing arrived. It was massive. Bigger than anything the ancient builders have ever seen before. It destroyed any ship that passed by, often ripping the ship into small bits. Not even the guns on board the ships did anything to the creatures. Sea travel became impossible as more and more of these creatures appeared. The ancient builders were stuck. As the creatures learned how to mutate squids in some way that is unknown, they turned squids into minions. The creatures even learned how to slightly mutate the squid minions and mutated the squids into ultra aggressive spider-like creatures. These can still be found today as spiders. Anyway, the mutated squids started to attack the ancient builders and spread a desease across the ancient builders. I would presume that the virus would then go on to kill all ancient builders, turning them into either undead versions of the ancient builders, or a live skeleton. Some ancient builders tried to flee to the nether, but the virus followed, turning the ancient builders into wither skeletons or killing them altogether, releasing their soul energy in the air and ground causing some sections of the soul sand Valleys to be created. Eventually, the creatures died out as their main food source died out or simply wasn't enough to sustain them. Anyway, the guardians kept on protecting the ocean monument and killed any squids nearby, fearing that these squids would kill their masters, elder guardians. This is where we are today. Thank you for all the replies. They encouraged me to make this theory. Anyway bye. Feel free to give your opinions on this theory in the replies.

"since villagers still exist in the world today wouldn't they still be sailing and exploring?" For anyone who has seen the movie Moana (I have, my sister spent a year watching it twice every three days), there is a logical explanation for that - dangers of the ocean. Perhaps they stopped sailing because their ships never returned... Just an alternative theory I don't really think so myself but I would like to put that out there.
@spammal
@spammal 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe the ocean dangers explain the fossil bones which can be found. These could've been big creatures who broke the villagers ships, hence shipwrecks, and are the ancestors of current ocean mobs like guardians. However, some evolved to be peaceful and became squids, later finding glow ink sacks, consuming them and generating a glow effect on their skin, forming glow squids.

Personal head canon: the Nether was used for resources (mainly potion related) but was evacuated after the spawning of the Wither (which is why the portals were broken). Those killed by the Wither became Wither skeletons, whose only motive is to protect their fortresses from the Piglins (the Nether’s native species). The Undead plague/curse spread into the Overworld anyway, leading to the extinction level event and explaining where everyone else is. The cells in the Strongholds might have been used for quarantine. I like the idea that the plan was to escape into the End, but since only one in 1 billion portals is ever actually open in-game this seems unlikely. Our character has to know what he’s doing, since the odds are low that you would happen to coincidentally open portals to other worlds. So here we go: Steve is a shipwrecked sailor during the Undead apocalypse who is trying to gather resources to survive and open an End portal in search of his friends while learning the truth about the Wither. Along the way he must descend into the deepest caverns, seek out the terrible Woodland Mansion, and venture into the fiery depths of the Nether. And all the while he is being watched by a nearly identical replica of himself who lacks eyes. Probably just described a better Minecraft movie than the one we’ll end up getting.

Imagine this animated into a ninety minute movie (In the plastic blocky style Mojang uses for their update trailers). Maybe incorporate Alex in there somewhere as well. A companion of Steve would be a wolf, as he recruits it early in his journey. Eventually his furry mate dies during his fight with the Ender Dragon or a village raid. Still lots of ways to go, as I am semi-concerned of how the Minecraft Movie will take place.

Ok, I agree with your theory, but what about this: Herobrine is the last surviving Builder, and years of isolation have caused him to hate players. The Enderman are builders that evolved, but over time forgot their building techniques. They attack people who look at them because they consider themselves superior. A new race was born, but they are very simple, and therefore rely on the guardians that were created by the Builders. (Think about it. Iron Golems are covered in vines and are clearly ancient.) From them, another race is born (The Players). The Player is then spotted by Herobrine, who thinks they are one of the long lost Builders and is angry because he thinks he was alone. He attacks the Player using long-forgotten magic, and the two battle for years. The Illagers are servants of Herobrine who are a subspecies of Villagers and are far more evolved. They 'raid' villages hoping to find and kill the Player. During the battle, the Player discovers the temples and learns about the history of the world. Now the Player goes to the Nether and finds the fortress. All over the fortress are signs of life, but the only life forms here are Blazes and Wither Skeletons. The Blazes are spirits of war and are commanded by the Wither Skeletons, who (I agree with you on this) are Builders who were infected. The infections spread to the overworld, losing strength in the portal. After defeating the Wither, the Player finds another clue. An Enderman (Because in the new update Endermen are in the Nether) some of the Endermen found a way out of the End, but are still stuck in the Nether, and can only travel to the Overworld when the moon is up. The Player travels to the end, hoping to free the Endermen only to find that they are serving the last surviving Ender Dragon after they slew the rest of the species. Now, after destroying the last Dragon, the Player regains all the knowledge of the past (What if exp. is knowledge?) and attempts to subdue Herobrine, and now we're at the present...

In the enderman video, you noted how there was a flaw in why there was certain loot in the chests that are located in end cities. But the theory at 6:50 would explain that. If they were learning about enchantments, the ancient people would most likely teach or show them with armor as to not look like they were going to attack, and not give them any weapons to attack them with. Also, trade is one of the first things developed by people, so I’m going to assume that went on in the over world. That would explain the unenchanted items in those chests.

Ocean monuments could have been made with only such little gold to show how unadvanced the civilization was at the time of construction. The monument could have been built before there was ocean. Since there were eventually crashed ships and other temples above surface and nether fortresses, it seems like 8 gold blocks seems a bit too much to build a whole monument for them (as you said). It could represent how primitive the civilization was at the time of constructions, and the ocean monuments are older than everything else. Could even go as far to draw the connection that in nearly every culture in the real world, a great flood came and destroyed everything before it. Though ofc this doesnt explain guardians, shipwrecks, and such. Just a comparison I drew

It does have some of the same problems as GT in my opinion. Just because two things share qualities doesn’t mean they necessarily are connected. For example: A. end cities have been built by someone. B. endermen can move blocks. Therefore endermen must have made the end cities despite there being nothing in the actual game that supports this. Endermen are never seen to built these cities, collect the resources used to built these cities or even have any type of interaction with the end cities. It’s just endermen live in the end, end cities are in the end therefore end cities must have been built by endermen. It’s kinda like how he said in his previous theory that shulkers make enderpearls. Nothing in the game supports this, he just made a connection to serve the theory. If there isn’t anything in the actual source that supports the theory the theory doesn’t hold up.

It literally all just clicked in my head. Eyes of ender are canonically (in dungeons) on the HEART of endersents (even if theyre really an eye). The heart of the sea is actually an EYE. Both of these eyes come from different species, with the eyes of ender most likely coming from the warden's original creature (before being revived with 3 souls, its eyes removed to make them more alert for sound of the wither approaching) and the eye of the sea coming from an ancient underwater creature thats now extinct. Most likely the hostile squid monster from the last mob vote

I've compiled a bunch of theories and questions about this series so I'm just going to repost them in one on all these videos to increase the odds of them getting answered or maybe even made into videos 1. Do you think somewhere in the minecraft world there's a lost disk called disk 12? 2. something I want to know is what a respawn anchor is supposed to be because respawning is not something that actually happens in universe but with the bed its obvious that the actual in universe use is just for sleeping but the respawn anchor only sets a spawn point so what's it actually doing in the context of the world? 3. What are the differences between different forms of undeath? We see Zombies, husks, Zombie villagers, zombie horses, zoglins, zombie pigmen, and drowned who all just have decaying skin. Skeletons, wither skeletons, strays, and skeleton horses who just keep their bones then we see Phantoms who have a more ghost like appearance. Also as an addon to that what is a ghast because I always thought it was a ghost but it isn't so maybe it conveniently evolved like squids or something. 4. Something that I find interesting is that other creatures when inflicted by the zombie virus seem to become mindlessly violent but when horses and piglins become zombified they act mostly normal, with piglins specifically the only differences are they seem to not have the full intelligence of normal piglins because A they don't still trade and B they only spawn with Swords and don't use cross bows. Another weird detail is that zombified piglins are immune to fire which is a huge red flag for a couple of reasons because one normal piglins aren't fire immune but most other undead creatures are particularly weak to fire. Another undead mob that has weird contradictions to most undead mobs are the zombie and skeleton horses which also keep their normal friendliness and seem to be the least far gone of these undead mobs not only being still domesticatable but being even easier to domesticate. I originally assumed that the undead virus only makes humans violent but that is simply not true because Phantoms and the wither are also not friendly. The biggest weird detail in all of this is that other undead mobs seem to still see these creatures as natural allies with skeletons riding skeleton horses and withers never attacking anything that is already undead. 5. I think that the fox is most likely the most intelligent and possibly important mob that's completely a wild animal (meaning it has no building ability, doesn't exist in its own structure, can't trade, and doesn't have the ability to create a full society) I think that because they are one of 6 mobs that sleep (you, villagers, foxes, 3 illigers) which as you established in the Phantoms video is already important they also have the ability to do several other things that very few can do including using totems of undying, enchantments on weapons, and chorus Fruit, and also can sometimes be seen holding emeralds that weren't given to them and seem to care about them a bit more than other non food items which may have even inspired the villagers to hold a similar appreciation for emeralds although that and the rest of this is just speculation I think two possible explanations for this are that they could be some sort of ancestor to either villagers or ancient builders although it's kinda hard to place because they have the emerald connection to villagers but can do other things like defend themselves although it could be a common ancestor for both and then my second idea take a trip even further through speculation town and a bit into the early stages of creepy pasta Avenue with the possibility that they once were villagers or ancient builders (again it's kinda hard to place) who were turned by a magic enemy with the most likely culprit being the illigers but another possibility is that the illigers themselves might have accidentally turned some of there kind into foxes although that's unlikely because foxes are only hostile when something attacks it first and even then tend to prefer running away. Anyway foxes have a ton of weird and specific properties that I'd love to see your interpretations on. So those are all my pitches.

One possible reason the ocean monument is really big for the amount of loot is that the monument had some sort of religious importance to the builders, and the extra space could have been a place where they worshiped some kind of sea god. This could explain the gold in the center of the monument, which could be an offering to this god. I have heard other theories that the monument was on the surface and sunk underwater, but I don’t think that is true because the guardians are specifically designed to work underwater, and the conduit works only underwater, which is the key to the monument.

Hopefully, Mojang adds some large sea monster boss that drops a heart of the sea and a bunch of prismarine to confirm this. I mean, where the heck did these builders get prismarine in the first place? It’s not a known material irl, and it kinda looks like scales to me, so maybe the ocean monuments are literally built from the remains of giant sea monsters, who are probably still out there, albeit rarer, evidenced by their terrifying calls. Perhaps this boss will naturally spawn every now and then in any ocean biome, after a certain number of days. It can’t destroy blocks, so no worries about your builds, but it would be a mighty foe. It could have almost as much health as the ender dragon, and it may inflict mining fatigue, in addition to dropping something that could be brewed into a potion of mining fatigue, to explain how the elder guardians are engineered to inflict that effect. It may also shoot powerful beams, more powerful than even the elder guardian. Perhaps it looks similar to the guardians except less mechanical and more fish like. What do you think of that idea?

Interesting, I kind of agree. However, there is great evidence for the villagers being the builders of the desert piramids. After all, these use the same blocks as desert villages and, unlike the other temples, these aren't complicated traps at all, they don't even require knowledge of redstone to do. Villagers already know about gunpower (since they trade them), it could be for potions, sure, but I wouldn't rule out completely that they know about TNT, after all, creepers do explode and they are the only way to get gunpower (other than trade) plus is the only thing they drop. There is also the pillagers, witches and the evokers who are the same species as the villagers and clearly have the capacity for bigger constructions as well as knowledge of more dangerous weapons. This also explain why there are wells in the desert, since they are more modern and used by villagers who wander around the desert. After all, if the wells were so ancient they would have eroded by now. This also makes sense as we don't have evidence of these seafarers having long term habitation of the most extreme biomes, particularly the snow ones as well as the savannas and badlands. Of course, all biomes do have mineshafts but these could have been build by an advanced illager civilization, they may be reworked in the cave update for more diferenciation and the subterranean areas aren't that more dificult to inhabit in deserted areas than in regular areas, al least definetly not in minecraft. Also, the iglu is definetly of villager origin, it has a zombie-villager there and all the ingredients to cure him. Plus, we only know of the illagers having knowledge about potions, well that and the Nether and End civilizations (which I would argue those are due to piglins and endermen respectively).
@ethanmoon3925
@ethanmoon3925 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree the villagers could have made the temples. I think that in the thriving past, villagers and illagers weren't separate. I think they're both descendants of a much greater civilization, who long ago looked less derpy. The builder civilization had port cities and global trade, religion, and built large structures. The debris from this civilization is so pervasive that literally tredging random parts of the ocean, rivers, and lakes with a fishhook will give you artifacts. I think it's very obvious there was some kind of apocalypse that filled the world with monsters, including turning the humans into zombies. I believe the villagers are scattered remnants, who have become inbred and weird looking due to their small numbers (having a very small gene pool is bad for you). Illagers are just villagers who decided to go Mad Max, blending in with the monsters and embracing the evil that swept over the land. The greatest artifact of that civilisation though, is you. Players look more similar to ancient builders, and have the same intrepid spirit that the demoralized villagers have given up. Players have the strength, intellect, and more importantly the drive to create fresh civilization and reconquer land from the evil.

I think it’s very likely Illagers built the pirate ships. They have woodland mansions which generate natural TNT, and have outposts that can spawn almost everywhere, affording them the ability to gain the resources go construct them. Additionally, they’re a warrior civilization that travels and attacks villages, having ships to travel go further lands and conquer them makes sense. Plus, woodland mansions are far more complex than villages, indicating a greater capacity for building.

You often take details from the game, explain your thinking, and then tell us what you are thinking, also directly admitting when you are wrong, confused, or forgetting/disregarding something. Matpat's theory's tend to seem far fetched and some things are forgotten or never brought up and rather implyed. I’d like to point out that a creature with potential to be added into Minecraft for the Ocean Update, (wasn’t chosen) and it was a squid-like beast that would drag boats underneath the waves with a long tongue and deal loads of damage and drown them. This could be why they had to build larger boats, in addition to hunting them, this could be used for defense during travel. On top of that, these beasts had large eye(s). I am not sure if they had one eye, or two. Either way, they were similarly colored to Heart of The Seas, which could mean that the Heart of The Seas are eyes of these powerful beasts. Also, Guardians are robots. There’s an official Minecraft creature guide which shows their insides which are robotic looking, with wires. I hope this helps with future theories, if you see this, that is.

I feel like the ancient builders didnt build the monuments. Instead, a more ancient form of ancient builders built the monuments. This is just a mini theory I thought up while watching, ehe: So, I feel like aside from the Ancient builders, there we Archaic builders who fell long before the Ancient Builders arose. These Archaic builders were similar, but highly different to the Ancient ones. They were the ones who originally found the hearts of the sea and conduits, hiding them away in secret locations while marking them on maps. Using these hearts, they constructed their capital city: the monument. This massive structure would be used to not only act as a massive sleeping den for Archaic builders, but also to protect Gold. Unlike the Ancient builders, the Archaics never discovered the magical properties hidden inside gold (they get better enchants lul), but they were aware of something holy within it. So they worshiped the gold blocks by protecting them in these monuments. Later on, the guardians and elder guardians were made to further protect the Monument. And just like your theory, Retro, the conduits were keys to entering the Monument and nulling out the elder guardian's mining fatigue. Cut to the Ancient builders: The Archaics have already died and are gone. Their structures are far more devastated than the Ancient builder's ruins. The Ancients' only showed decay via moss or cracks, while the Archaics' literally had missing blocks on their ruins. The only exception being the Monument. This might be a stretch, but I think the Elder Guardian's Mining Fatigue effected the land around the monument itself, basically giving Nature mining fatigue when eroding the monument. This lead to it never being damaged at all. Anyways, the Ancients were now exploring the Archaic builder's ruins for treasure maps in hopes of finding treasure (duh). The cannons were meant to fight other rival ancient builders who were also in search for treasure. Since it seems like not a single builder found a heart, they never unlocked the monument, therefor never finding out more about the guardians and whatever lied within. TLDR; there were boomers and millenial builders. Boomers made monument, boomers died. Millenials find maps to enter monument, but never entered monument, millenials died. You are born, the gen z, and you'll probably die too if you're a game journalist lol

The theory I’ve held for a little while is that the Ancient Builders (now endermen) constructed most structures, but after they summoned the wither & had to retreat to the End, they couldn’t defend the rest of their race, resulting in a zombie apocalypse. Trying to save their species, the remaining Builders constructed test labs (igloos) as remote places to try to discover a remedy, but their remedy only worked on the simple minds of villagers. Then, they retreated to the islands with ships, but when corrupted Builders infected others, they sunk. The Builders then built ocean ruins as Drowneds, & the few that survived attempted to make themselves stronger & more powerful by implementing lapis lazulite & diamonds into their own brains, creating the Illager race. The very few surviving Builders finally retreated to the Deep Dark, but, because of the experiments done on Blazes (endermen/wither origin story), villagers (zombie apocalypse theory), and themselves (illagers), their souls could not rest & so were transformed into Skulk, but not before they created a final guardian should any apocalyptic event happen again - sacrificing their souls, they created the Wardens.

I have to say, my theory for ancient builders is more similar to that of Game theory. The builders became the endermen (by something I’ll call a virus), but it wasn’t instant, the builders noticed it and set out to discover a cure. They built massive woodland mansions and outposts to defend their research from others, and looked at how to counteract the virus, they tested it on other mobs and so on and so fourth… eventually they found out how to make totems of undying, the virus continued to spread and wreak havoc on the world, portals where closed and destroyed, trying to limit the spread. Then at the very brink of extinction, the builders got it. Not to save themselves, but to create new life, sentient life that mimics the builders in almost every way, spare a complete immunity to the virus. Unfortunately they were unable to ever summon new life, the virus took over and the endermen were all that remained. Over many years, new societies formed, including the villagers. A once powerful and bristling society, turned fragmented when individuals seeking great power found the ancient mansions, the evil power there still held some of the virus within it, the villagers however, where effected in a different way, getting greying skin and the ability to use some magic. In one mansion, they find totems of undying, and these are given to the highest ranking of illager. (Hence why they can only be found by evokers). In another mansion, they find the work of the builders and how to create life, they see this as an opportunity to create the ultimate form of power. They set to work and then the player spawns. The theory kinda jumbles at the end but if love it if you checked it out RGN

I think the end might be a space time situation, and life naturally interacts with space time different there, like a higher dimensions. I think the builders used the armor in the end and I think the endermen dwell in communities far deeper in the end and we only see the outskirts .

I know I’m really late to the party here but I just wanted to point out that endermen seem to be able to shift between the nether, the over world, and the end at will. If they popped into the nether moved a couple blocks and popped out, it would appear is if they were teleporting. I think they created the nether portals to allow the “ancient builders” or whoever came before us to travel there as well. Another thing is that the nether portals are black and purple which happens to be the same color as an enderman and it’s eyes.

I wouldn't say the guardians are mechanical but rather synthetic, since this hypothesis fits very well with the magic behind the summoning we can already see in Minecraft (emphasis on the vexes). Guardians seem to have more similarities with vexes than golems, assuming they where made by other entities, because golems are rather souls who possessed objects (an iron statue, a bunch of snow) but vexes are *whole* entities including their anatomical bodies summoned for a sole purpose (attacking and defending respectively for both). Another reason why the idea of guardians being mechanical doesn't fit in my head is because they don't have an inorganic nor machine-like body, they have animal/human eyes and a tail. Sure, their skin being similar to primarine, a building block, and the fact that they drop it when killed can contradict this idea, except would it? it makes sense once you consider the idea of prismarine being organic, grown from the guardians themselves, this explains why elder guardians present ageing symptoms with the desaturation of their skin and could potentially be an explanation on why do prismarine blocks slowly change colour over time and that prismarine blocks can activate conduits.

what if endermen live in the end but send explorers out into the overworld and nether to gather supplies. kind of like maze runner at the beggining where they all live inside but send brave explorers out to find a way out

17:00 More importantly, why is the only good teasure sponges? Also, I'd like to say that the name of the Heart of the Sea suggests that it brings life to the ocean. The Conduit activates this power, and I feel like Guardians are just interested in the Conduit and weren't actually programmed by their builders to be attracted to Conduits. Conduits then sense the destruction that Guardians cause to innocent animals like fish and beam them to death. Remember, Hearts of the Sea supposedly bring life. Also sometimes Drowned hold the hearts so I guess the Drowned are what happened to the builders. And remember, zombies are zombies. They seem to be infected by a plague.

Great video, I just wish that you would've tried to anwser the "what were their purpose" question about them, they all have religious connotations to them so a theory would be nice.
