Personally, I love the general proportions. But things don’t need to be white, in my opinion. White and gold as a palette is kind of kitschy. I think of the Paris Salon exhibitions of the 19th century. Despite the walls being caked floor to ceiling with paintings, the walls were still richly coloured, in deep burgundy, which gave the gold leafed picture frames something meaty to stand on. This is what I imagine when we talk of Parisienne rooms. I feel as though white makes gold seem like plastic. Gold needs a rich, deeper hue to bring out its undertones, which usually are red.
