Dude - what a video! Nice work and analysis!! I loved the ratio between uninkables and draw cards. It’s something that I had never associated the two with before. Also liked the simple way you explained deck types with the ink cost curve, keeping it simple for beginners. Would love to see additional content - maybe on the pros or cons of playing your decks against each other and why they would be likely to fail. Would also love a video discussion on why a deck with Agro / Control would fail or succeed against the a solid Agro or solid control. Well done and well explained!

Great video! Thank you! It’s my first time playing any TCG so the deck building has been (and is!) a struggle/ learning curve, so this is a massive help. I think I’ve got stuck trying to add a little bit of everything into my deck instead of focusing on one clear tactic. Subscribed!
@gillygabyte Жыл бұрын
Always come up with a win condition for your deck and add cards that help you towards that strategy! It’s nice to be able to do little interactions and plays but if you don’t have a core strategy, you’ll just have a lot of weaker game plans instead of a singular really strong one!
@kanekrlic7443 Жыл бұрын
By win condition do you mean like be aggressive or win the late game etc? Sorry for the stupid question!
@gillygabyte Жыл бұрын
@@kanekrlic7443 not a stupid question! So win conditions can vary per deck What does your deck do best to win the game? Aggro is going fast and wide - race to 20 Control is controlling the game state and is in it for the long run Mid range is in between There are decks with a specific strategy that leads them to victory Mill decks make your opponents have 0 cards left in deck There’s a lot that specific colors can do but for example: Emerald decks have the ability to prevent your opponent from doing specific actions leading you to victory

@JPCase10411 ай бұрын
I think a key factor for 1 ofs is the “I never want to see two of these” effect. If it’s sometimes great, often ok/ink, but you never want to see two of them, consider a one of silver bullet against the level of synergy the deck prefers.
@gillygabyte11 ай бұрын
Depending on the mulligan, you will realistically only see a 1 of every 11.67%-25% of your games One-ofs are very situational but should always be considered worth a spot in your deck If this game ever gets side boarding, we can easily slot in tech cards to the side to maximize consistency of our decks when building 😁

@@gillygabyte I think there's plenty of tournament decks in magic, that run one-of copies of a card. Two reasons for that really: 1. There's a better card that does the same thing and you're already running the full 4 of them but you determined that you want 5 copies of the effect. But that's not really what we're talking about here, just interesting to note. 2. The effect of the card in question is quite strong but the card has a higher cost and you just NEVER want two copies of the card in your hand because it just doesn't make sense in multiples. E.g. as an example a card that says "remove all cards from all graveyards, for every card removed your opponent loses 1 life". This will only ever be useful exactly once and the graveyard will not fill up a second time for a second casting to ever be worthwhile in the same game. But the effect is still strong enough that you'd always gladly play it, just not strong enough to risk having two of them in your hand. But also: Considering that in Lorcana we have the inkwell-system, I'd be way more lenient towards 1-offs of inkable cards while being way more critical towards 1-off uninkable cards that can't just turn into ink if you don't need them. It's kind of cool that in Lorcana you can put pretty narrow cards in your deck and if you don't want to play them, they can just be ink. Though obviously if a card gets inked 95% of the time, the 5% of the time you DO use it, it better be game winning, or otherwise there's a good chance that you'll find another inkable card that is useful more often.

Fantastic Video. Would love to see if this changes with the current new mechanic of locations.
@gillygabyte9 ай бұрын
Here’s an updated example regarding new mechanics of locations: The premise is still the same - I like to start with 3 copies of a card for testing purposes If it’s uninkable, I typically drop the card down to 2 copies if a particular card is beneficial to the overall game plan and can progress my win condition I increase my count by 1 copy! (Inkable to 4; uninkable to 3) I’m always trying to ensure I can play on curve and make sure I have enough ink to not clog up my hands with unplayables Hope this helps!!! I planned on making more in depth discussions on this topic but it doesn’t really warrant a full video at least not yet 🤓

One issue I see with running too many uninkable cards isn't just that your probability of getting an inkable card go down, it's also that too many uninkable cards pretty much force you to use your other cards for ink -> it reduces your options. If you run too many uninkable cards, your inkable cards might as well have no text on them because you're pretty much only using them as ink. Also, any cards that are inkable but are incredibly important to your gameplan might as well be considered "uninkable" because you never want to use them for ink no matter what the symbol says in the top left corner. So even if you run "only" 16 uninkables, if 8+ of your inkable cards are virtually never played into the inkpool, you really actually have 24 "uninkable cards". Any uninkable card you put in the deck should really be a card that you want to play every single time you draw it. Conversly, any given inkable card that is a bit narrow in it's application is ok to run since you can just ink it in those times when it's not useful. E.g. some kind of tech-card that might not be relevant every single game.

rules of thumb from 60 card MTG decks that can apply to Lorcana as well: 1. +/- 40% resources cards ( 24 inkable cards) 2. From the remaining cards (36): +/- 60% creatures/characters (22 cards), +/- 40% items/songs (14 cards) NOTE: Could need to be adjusted a bit given that Lorcana doesn't have an explicit resource type and that characters/items/songs will be used to make up the inkwell resources) 3. Number of copies: four copies: I want to naturally draw into these every game and multiple times three copies: I want to naturally draw into these most games and potentially multiple times. two copies: Cards that are good to naturally draw into mid to late games and/or situational i can tutor for(situations that might arise more than once) one copy: Cards that are situational, that are not needed every game but can be tutored for if needed and do not need to be drawn into naturally. 4. Curve: keep the majority of the deck below 4 cost with a peak at 3 or 4 depending on the type of deck early/mid/late game play

Hello! So just in time allows you to cheat out the ink curve a whole 2 turns early which is very great for aggressive strategies and can win games on turn 4-5 if done efficiently The average turns in Lorcana is 10 and it aggro decks can do it faster before control decks can ready up, they win the game 🤓
