In this short, Mark Sneddon and Sarah Irving-Stonebraker discuss the foundational principles of western freedom, particularly in relation to the religious history of indigenous spiritualism. However, as the transcendent narrative of Christianity has eroded, it has been replaced by a will to power concerned primarily with systems of oppression.

Secular meant any denomination of Christian, that was the intention of the letter of the law in schools and everywhere else. Our ancestors never conceived that we'd import wholesale foreign cultures and give them equal status.

" as the transcendent narrative of Christianity has eroded, it has been replaced by a will to power" - John, you nailed it in this sentence. I've always thought that the German film 'Triumph of the Will' was a statement of a post-Christian morality, rather than just the title of a doco about the Berlin Olympics.

Considering that you might be wrong. There obviously is a balance between religious freedom and the norms the state will enforce. A certain humility on both sides is certainly called for.

It's actually pretty simple. The way you act in foreign politics, will sooner or later come back home. Because you normalized that behavior. The way you treated your poorer neighbors (like Timor) and the way you handled the migrants, is basically the blueprint for how you now treat your own population. Your actions reflect your true ideology.

Dedicated atheism is a religion unto itself. It takes true philosophical fortitude to believe there is nothing out there in the infinite cosmos more existentially powerful than oneself.

There are lots of things more powerful than oneself, but they are physical, not supernatural. Its takes zero dedication to not make up stories about how you are a special creation of some fanciful creature

Yes, but within a clearly secular environment. Christianity in America still does enjoy an easy going tolerance as a religious pursuit but in no other sphere of the society is it allowed influence on its own merits.

It was said by Jesus. He described the JEWS as "salt of the earth". Salt is a PRESERVATIVE. What Jesus meant is that the JEWISH people was chosen by God so humankind could afford salvation through them by the blood of the Messiah Yeshua.

Insofar as all transcendent narratives are born out of the human relationship with mortality, and we see that we truly are responsible for the narratives, and that its our relationship with time, nothing, being, that is the basis of human freedom, the basis of the individual and of the community, we will continue to miss how mortal freedom is, and thus how its mortality is the basis of all spirituality and all moral systems. Not Plato's immortal soul and all the traditions born of it. Wonder and existential curiosity begins on earth when humans started burial practices. We have all the rich potential of the most unifying spirituality in the fact that we die. Instead we do everything in our power to ignore that most common and unifying of all things. The Public Square is the most Sacred of all realms and gods. We don't need to ground our freedom in a transcendent realm, but in the dirt of our mortality. We all share in that "tradition", all of us.

STOP SAYING JUDEAO-CHRISTIAN, IT'S CHRISTIAN BELIEF. Christianity is NOT a religion like the others who have rules and superstition. "Love they neighbour" has nothing to do with religion, it's about a spiritual rebirth to understanding that everyone has a soul. We are not merely flesh. Christianity sits in its own category of whether it's Thee Supreme Truth or it is not.

I prefer the term “Biblical”. The term “Christian” has become loaded with misconceptions due to the plethora of diverse and more often than not, incorrect examples of it to be of any use in designating anything the average listener can relate to.

It's quite ridiculous to give credit to the New Testament for the concept of love thy neighbor, it comes from the Torah, Lev:19:18. More then 1,200 years before the plagiarism of the NT.
