It is such a racist song and not really accurate with first land owners. In the convict and gold era, Chinese, Jews, Middle eastern cultures (railways) let alone all of the huge mix of cultures now … it is not a good song. Let alone 60,000 years of the indigenous people and the mass destruction of hundreds of tribes through out that …. I refuse to play it in Gigs or workshops

@@akashatemple9011 listen my grandfather and his 8 brothers and sisters were taken “stolen generation “ the horrors he lived and unspeakable … he went on to be one of not many who joined the armed services to help fight and then went to Kokoda and on to Changi where he was held prisoner of war. Yes I agree 60000 yrs is incredible and yes even today we indigenous people don’t always get a fair crack . I couldn’t agree more but the seekers are about inclusive Australia and for my part I am a proud aboriginal woman and I love our country and try to find the good in life because my pop was a proud man and taught us all that life isn’t easy so do your best and forget about what other people are doing .

Big Guy - just a note of interest. One of the first crowd shots (and one of the last) shows an old bloke with a bent nose and a good old Aussie Akubra hat. He is (was, RIP) Slim Dusty, our biggest country music star with something like 200 albums released since his first big hit A Pub with No Beer in the early 50's. He was a real troubadour, touring the outback from one end of Australia to the other, taking music to indigenous communities, many of whom had never seen a white fella. A real gentleman, a good Aussie bloke.

In this version they left out two verses; The 'I came upon the prison ship' and the 'I'm a teller of stories' verses. Here they are in their entirety. I came from the dream-time From the dusty red-soil plains I am the ancient heart The keeper of the flame I stood upon the rocky shores I watched the tall ships come For forty thousand years I've been The first Australian I came upon the prison ship Bowed down by iron chains I fought the land, endured the lash And waited for the rains I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife On a dry and barren run A convict, then a free man I became Australian I'm the daughter of a digger Who sought the mother lode The girl became a woman On the long and dusty road I'm a child of the Depression I saw the good times come I'm a bushie, I'm a battler I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" I'm a teller of stories I'm a singer of songs I am Albert Namatjira And I paint the ghostly gums I'm Clancy on his horse I'm Ned Kelly on the run I'm the one who waltzed Matilda I am Australian I'm the hot wind from the desert I'm the black soil of the plains I'm the mountains and the valleys I'm the drought and flooding rains I am the rock, I am the sky The rivers when they run The spirit of this great land I am Australian We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice "I am, you are, we are Australian" "I am, you are, we are Australian"

This rings so true. My moms Aborigine, my dads ancestry is Irish and English. My great great great grandfather came out as a convict on the 6th of May 1814 from County Down in Ireland and married another convict from Hampshire, England, sentenced to the colony of NSW for 7 years for the crime of stealing linen. They had a family and the rest is history. A common story in Australia.

Just some history Mike. The Seekers were one of the Australian biggest groups in the 60’s. They were huge and had many hits. They were the first Aussie band to have records released in the UK and USA. They had top 5 records in Australia, UK and USA at the same time. In 1967 after being overseas for some years they returned to Australia. they had hits with Georgie Girl which was used as a UK film soundtrack at the time, as well as I’ll Never Find Another You, Mornington Ride and The Carnival is Over (you should do a reaction to that one…). In 1968 they were named Australians of The Year, both as a group and individually. The only group to have won this prestigious award. In 1967 they held a concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne before a crowd estimated at 200,000. The bowl only held about 15,000 people and by 11am there were 100,000 people there. At the time it was the biggest concert ever in the Southern Hemisphere. It was estimated that 10% of the population of Melbourne was there. They literally stopped the traffic all around the bowl.

From the 1770's to the 1830's Britain transported convicts of varying ages from children to old people for crimes such as stealing food. It was seen as a method of getting rid of "undesirable" people whilst at the same time colonizing a new and harsh territory with a difficult environment to farm and maintain. 250 years later and the irony is that Australia is now viewed far more as a land of opportunity than the UK with a healthy economy for those who are prepared to work hard and better themselves.

They were Australia's most important export to the world in the 1960s. You are on the young side so I forgive you for not knowing but they were famous for a song called GEORGIE GIRL that was used in a British film (I think off the top of my head). Judith, the only female in the group, was the lead singer and everyone thought she had the voice of an angel. She has her own website and a gallery of pics of when she was younger. It's hard to believe she is around 79 now. Born in July 1943. Georgy Girl is on youtube. If you heard it you probably would know the song. They were big in America too.

I still call Australia home sung by the late Peter Allen is also a song that we Aussies love when we are far from home. Please check it out if you can.

When we all sang this at the freedom rallies there wasn't a dry eye to be seen. So sad what's happened to this beautiful country in the name of corruption and greed. Coercion is not consent.

Did you see the guy in the audience with the Akubra hat at 2:32? That was the late Slim Dusty. Australian country royalty. Next to him was the olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe. He was mainly a freestyle swimmer and won 5 Olympic Gold medals, the most of any Australian.

Play it anyway We're happy to Adopt people as Honorary Aussies. My only objection is this is a Shortened performance, it's missing some verses. I Loved Your reaction though

@@HeavyMProductions I understand what you're saying, an 'anthem' is one thing yet a 'national anthem' is another. Must meet more criteria than a popular song which people hold dear in their heart, for what ever reason. Essentially it should be for the love of a country and pay homage all of its inhabitants, from its original custodians to those whom all call Australia home today. Don't get me wrong, much love and respect for Farnsey and Chisel, I was raised hearing their tunes which have become Australian music legacies and anthems in their own right. However not many songs tick the adequate boxes to be considered a contender as the unofficial national anthem. 'I am Australian and 'My Island Home' comes to mind. Then there's 'Watzing Matilda', onto 'Keh Sanh' Chisel, 'You're the voice' Farnsey, 'I still Call Australia Home' Peter Allen, 'I Come From The Land Downunder' Men A Work, etc etc.

Hard to sing without a tear in the eye. That seemed a shorter version than they often do.
