i remember playing this over and over as a teenager - so sad to think how back then I only heard the bit about being lost and so alone. I can remember all the words now 50 years later though. Moving me to tears now as I remember how unhappy I was back then.

Thanks for posting. I prefer the mono version, I think first because it's the version I had when I was 3 years old, the flip side of Morningtown Ride. I also like the faster tempo of the mono version better. I also like the mono bridge "Love me, now and forever" better than the stereo "Love me, leave me, never". But its a great song either way, beats the hell out of most of the crap on the air today! Thanks again for posting.

Oh, the voice of an angel. I play this song to my partner of 41 years regularly at every. Got this album autographed by them preserved in a plastic sleeve during their 25th Anniversary Reunion. Love both versions but more so the latter, the high key ending sends me. Thank you for uploading and best wishes to you and all The Seekers fans

I grew up with the Seekers' music (b 1968, and my parents had several of their records) and they have so many unforgettable beloved songs. But this I really believe is their best (or perhaps i should just say, my favourite). I grew up with the first version played here, and I love it, but it's equally wonderful to hear the other version. Everything about it is beautiful, the arrangement, the singing, the variant lyrics. Thank you!

@therealKINDLE To each their own. One thing for sure - BOTH versions are WAY better than anything in today's charts!

Correct, the extra verse goes "Now you're here and at last my life's begun / all my trials I will overcome in the morning sun." My ideal version would be a sort of combo of the two with "now and forever" but the extra verse included. Also I prefer the lower key.

I concur. I'm great fan of the Seekers and had the privilege to see them on their Silver Jubilee tour twice at the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley and Brighton followed them round. It's my absolute favourite song of the Seekers. I sneaked a cassette recorder at the RAH and it was one of the songs in their repertoire the full concert on tape I treasure

It's Shocking as to the Differences in Mixes from the Mono Version! Good God. It's in a Different Key!!! :-O And Judith says "Love Me now & for ever", instead of "Love Me; Leave Me - Never" I'm sorry but the Stereo Version is much more Haunting, & effective if you ask me. In the mono version, many sounds dissapear in the mix. Just hark at those Strings at 4:43.. how pervading they are. And the Vocals are all quivering together. It Moves me to tears. Durham is an astonishing Voice.
@therealKINDLE - p.s. Listening to them again (not a chore) I still prefer the mono version - but I'd love to hear THAT in stereo. As you say, the strings really benefit from it. There's an extra verse in the stereo version too (instead of a repeat of "Here I stand...") Incidentally, the keys are correct (I played these on a Goldring Lenco - you can trim the speeds individually, using a strobe disc) and it's interesting that the difference in keys changes the MOOD. Durham - tears - oh yes.

Now then Vinnie - prepare to be slapped down by a kid. 12 years younger than you and still an old bastard... (I am hoping that this is a traditional "Aussie" greeting, me being a traditionally bad toothed pom) Went mental for a second, and I'm sure I will again. Vinnie - did you use a mono cartridge for the mono record? Mono records are cut laterally. Use the wrong cartridge and you will get +6dB of noise and minus that of bandwidth. I prefer the stereo by the way - just my set up. Open baffles halfway along a rectangular room - love to discuss.

This is a beautiful song but I think I've heard the melody before. It reminds me of a classical composition but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.

I hate when instead of making a master take and mixing a mono / stereo tapes the make take x mono and take y stereo. Even The Beatles did this
