Seiko’s "Save The Ocean" program is an important one, helping raise much-needed funds for the conservation of the planet’s oceans. You can check out a couple of the places that benefit from Seiko's work here and here, but today we're looking at the watches that help raise money for these critical programs. This year, it's all about the Seiko SRPE33K and SRPE39K, two very handsome references that pack a serious punch in what they bring to the table.
The Seiko SRPE39K is based on the classic Seiko turtle shape, the same as last year’s Seiko SRPD12K "Save The Ocean" edition, but with a couple of important changes. While the bracelet and movement remain the same, the key difference is in the shimmering blue dial, and the inky black ceramic bezel that elevates this watch into the stratosphere of good-looking watches. Similarly, the Seiko SRPE33K features the same blue gradient dial, with the faint outline of stingrays as though just below the water's surface, and an eye-catching ceramic bezel. Even if you've already got a couple of Seiko watches in your collection, these two new offerings from the Japanese watchmaker are some of the most impressive pieces at the price point we’ve seen in recent years, and are definitely worthy of consideration for lovers of the brand and the ocean.

Fought the urge to get the first 2 Save the Ocean dial versions for a long time. But after watching this video showcase the dial on the 3rd STO dial, I think I cannot resist the temptation to collect them all. On top of that, I can say my obsession helped indirectly towards efforts in saving the ocean. Though to be honest, I need to research what exact efforts are made by these organizations

Got a SRPE39K1 just the other day! Love it! Nothing is missaligned on mine. The chapter ring has some "play" in it. Not that it's loose - on the contrary. But I can make it missaligned if I want by nudging it against either "stop". But the center between the stops is dead on center on the dial.

maybe you meant bezel? because chapter ring is fixed.

The flaws are consumer driven. It's their disconnect from manufacturing. You can not make this watch for $400 and expect it to be perfect. It should be 1.5-2x as much, but people don't want to pay that. So Seiko needs to sell it for $400, and the consumer needs to accept the flaws. $400 to machine all of that steel, machine the movement, assemble it, and QC it, plus leave room for seiko's profit and the distributors profit, is just not possible in the 20th century. They need to make it for $250 for them to make money selling it for $400-450, and you absolutely CANNOT produce this watch for $250 to the level that consumers expect. Same thing happens in the gun world. People expect to pay $300-500 for a handgun, and expect perfection. You can not manufacture a handgun for $400 retail ($250 to manufacture). It's just not possible, and people don't get that because they think that someone presses a green start button on a machine, and it starts popping out watches or guns like a Willy Wonka candy machine. Any flaws are 100% the fault of the consumer.
