Was fortunate to see this wonderful band twice in their heyday. A live act as good as any I've seen with the late great Alex a frontman quite like no other. His presence on stage, simply captivating, underpinned by the brilliant and equally 'quirky' musicians around him, . A remarkable character, a unique band, and very much missed. Good work Tre

Love that you have come across the Sensational Alex Harvey - he is an absolute legend of a rock star sadly long gone. If you ever see any of his live performances you will see what a performer he is too. they had fun with their songs too. I think you will love Faith Healer

Saw a KZbin video of a band doing a Ronnie Lane tune at the Clutha in Glasgow and noticed the painting of the great Alex Harvey on one of the walls.

Great band. Video performances of Faith Healer, Next and Delilah are all worth watching.

The thing that I liked about Alex Harvey was his eclecticism, blues, soul, rock, jazz all on one album. Try Swampsnake, ', 'Shake That Thing' or 'There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree Mother, Their Burning Big Louie Tonight'.

I don't know if this is a result of my recommendation (in response to your review of The Boston Tea Party). But I ranked my SAHB recommendations on the basis of how well (I think) they show off Zal Cleminson's guitar work, and I think I had Midnight Moses at the top (because it gets straight into it rather than having The Faith Healer's long intro). The best band ever to come out of Scotland, and definitely one of top guitarists.

Best band to come out of my own country. All the usual hits will be recommended to you, Tre, but you should not miss a couple of his minor classics, Amos Moses and Soul in Chains. Keep the quality high!

Hi Tre, thanks for this reaction. Alex Harvey was the music of my youth. If you like strange stuff, try (The Ballad Of) Hollis Brown by the unknown band Fusion Farm. It´s the early 70´s cover of an old Bob Dylan classic. I think you´ll like it. Greats from Germany.

Hehe, well you are in for a visual surprise, Tre. Wait til you check out guitarist, Zal, in his clown makeup, then get a load of Alex in his striped shirt and shag hair, like a Pub-Rocker with no pretense!

They do sound quite similar, 2 of my favourite frontmen. I think Bon Scott is maybe a better vocalist but Harvey's band I find a little more interesting.

I was thinking the same thing. I never made the connection before, but Bon and the Young brothers were all of a Scottish background.
