I do have a crazy unexplained disappearance for you though BC. It’s the Gingerelli pizza restaurant owners disapearance in OldForge, Pennsylvania. My wife used to live in that area and remembered going there when she was growing up, it had a great presence in the neighborhood, the owner was always a really nice guy than in 2017 I (believe) he just vanished. My wife didn’t know about any of this until last weekend she had some family down from that area in Pennsylvania & it came up. I just thought you may be able to do a video about it if you’re ever looking for more content ideas. I had never heard of this mystery on any other channel at least that I can remember. @@SmilerORocker can u easily remove the piercing when you want to wear the air buds? I figure if it’s been pierced long enough it shouldn’t be a problem of closing over. That’s my advice- just swap the jewellery out for the buds & don’t forget to swap them back when you’re done. It sounds tedious but I reckon that’s your best option till buds become more malleable, like made of soft silicone

Brilliant! I sat there thinking 'James Fisk. James Fisk? Where do I know that name from?!' And as soon as I got to the gold part of this video I remembered. James Fisk was played by Edward Arnold in the 1937 film The Toast of New York, co-starring Cary Grant. It's a fictionalized account of Fisk's life but a wonderful watch with much of this in it. Having said that even if they'd wanted to, they could never have fitted all of this in if they tried!!! What a life, and death. I was also utterly startled by the picture of Cornelius Vanderbilt. I knew Anderson Cooper was related, great great grandson, but the resemblance is uncanny! This is one of the most complex and fascinating downloads ever. Thank you SO much Brief Case! Utterly glorious!

She did, what she had to do to survive in a very different age. Doesnt mean, I condone her actions or would make the same choices, but I dont really know, do I, as I live 150 years later. But I guess, u think, the man with a wife, who has a paid mistress at his beg and call, is just pure class? The guy, who also believed, he owned her, so she wasnt allowed to leave him for some1 else? Fisk didnt deserved to be murdered, but that doesnt mean, he wasnt a PoS. I had to keep stopping this one to relisten because would think I missed something. But no, I wasn't missing anything... the love triangle was just that outrageous. Fisk's general business practices reflected stereotypes of nouveau riche novels. But it wasn't the wealth and success that Fisk accumulated during his lifetime, but his unsavory partnerships that led to his downfall. Very tragic since his life started off which so much promise. Piece of work...Days of Our Lives soap "stories" as my grandmother called them in the States...yes, she (Mansfield) would have been a star character causing so much manipulation, chaos, blackmail and death. She wanted her cake and to eat it too! What a piece of work...not that the men were righteous either...they all played dirty. Cautionary tale of what happens when you play dirty... It was an eye-opening insight into a turbulent period of modern US history, with some larger-than-life characters, who seemingly lived for drama. So much drama! So little integrity! So much emotional blackmail! So much profiteering! Fabulous pictures to set the scene and fuel our imagination. So easy to judge the women in cases like this. Stop and think: what options did a woman have for supporting herself? Marriage? New York didn't pass its Married Women's Property Act till 1848. Before that, a wife's property passed to her husband on marriage. She couldn't enter into a contract without his permission, and if she earned any wages, by right they belonged to him. Divorce was prohibitively expensive. What well- paid jobs existed for women? There were no equal pay laws and no rules against sacking women when they married or became pregnant. The system was stacked against women and some women decided to try and make the best of a bad deal. Critics call them gold diggers. Well, as Mae West said, "First they louse you up, and then they call you louse."

Only in this case Mansfield was a straight up gold digger especially when she sued Fisk's widow. It also doesn't help her case that she probably sold all of her love letters to the press to milk the story for all it was worth. I feel for Fisk's wife because she stuck by him through it all and then had to be dealt that bitter blow in the end.

Why wouldn't she stand by him? He paid the bills and she lived with her "friend". But I guess you think she's not a gold digger.

“What options did a woman have for supporting herself?” Becoming a seamstress, a laundress, a midwife, a school teacher, a nurse, a wet nurse, a cook, a handmaiden, a governess, etc. And depending on who you were working for, you could be paid well in any of those positions. It’s a myth that prostitution was the only way for women to make money and ladies who did become mistresses, prostitutes, or courtesans were women who just wanted fast and easy money, not too different from modern times 🤷🏽‍♀️

For jobs where you worked at home, and were traditionally paid far less as a result, and supplied your own materials, please list the pay. Explain how in both cases it would support a family this size. When did women in the US get the right to equal pay (I know the answer for the UK). If you can't answer these questions, you're simply indulging in magical thinking.

@@tomsdottir Equal pay in US wasn’t granted until 1963 yet until then millions, possibly billions, of women before that who actually had these jobs made it work by living off of this pay as well as whatever money their husbands were able to make, so no it wasn’t impossible to live with that kind of pay. They traditionally left their own children with family members while they worked. It’s pretty much common sense that these jobs in general didn’t pay much but as I stated in my OP depending on who you worked for, you could be paid well. Example, a well paid governess could be paid up to 100 dollars per year which in todays money would be around 2,300 dollars. That doesn’t sound like a good salary to us but Victorian money wasn’t worth as much as money is now, so 2,300 dollars would have been considered a good amount of money back then.

Thanks for taking a look at this angle of a rather dismaying period in American history. This was a time characterized by graft & corruption in both politics & big business, with politicians, oil & railroad magnates involved in shady backroom dealings & outright flaunting of the laws & mores of the time. This corruption led directly to the gangster criminals & the Great Depression of the 1920's-30's. Your story is a small microcosm of all those elements combined, & highlights what can happen when greed & power are allowed to run rampant. A little "morality tale", so to speak.

His story was very interesting. I had a loose knowledge of Fisk after reading a book called "The Dark Genius of Wall Street", a book about the life of Jay Gould. I'd highly recommend it.

Actresses generally don't make for good wives, their job train them well to lie and they're often of dubious morality. Even today, I rarely see celebs wedding lasting for very long. The robber baron had it coming, I at least smiled at hearing him getting c***cked by his own associate 😂 It's the lesser punch from life he deserved. I hate this bunch of white collar bandits rigging the system, they indirectly cause innocent people's expropriation, starvation, fall into criminality and even suicide! Yet, they always get away with slaps on the wrist. In my system, they would get the noose and everything seized!!
