I’m getting a rash guard. I’m so glad you did this. Good job spreading this message. I had no idea all the years of using sunscreen could harm the environment. As a old redhead it’s been literally a lifesaver.
@SunshineStateInsider Жыл бұрын
Yay! I actually learned that while snorkeling in Cozumel! Our guide said that sunscreen on the reefs is banned down there now because of how much it's been shown to hurt their reefs, and scuba and snorkeling is a big part of their tourism industry. Makes sense if you think about how it can accumulate on their and then block the sun they need.

I'm glad you mentioned the sunscreen problem for our reefs. I live on the east coast of Florida and everyone I've spoken to has never heard about it being a problem. I'm starting to spread the word so people will start thinking twice and not be part of the problem. Its something that we can actually do that makes a big difference. Where long sleeves and a hat, it helps a lot.

I would add Big Shoals and the Limestone Bluffs area of the Suwanee River. Big Shoals is the only "major" rapids in Florida. Another interesting one is the "disappearing river" where the Santa Fe River disappears into the ground for 3 miles and also with some of the more famous springs locations along the river.
@husbandsonfollowerleader9133 Жыл бұрын
O'Leno state Park is where you want to visit if you want to see the Santa Fe "disappear". It's gorgeous, old Florida, and fascinating to explore.

Couldn’t agree more. The Suwannee is my favorite river and my propeller would agree with you about the shoals…. Lol. They are beautiful and dangerous too.

You're missing at least a couple, not sure if that's on purpose to protect them... still good list shows FL is far from just beaches and Disney. But keep in mind people, we are full. Actually beyond full, seriously we have been developing up too much land, unsustainably using water, but.... yeah for sure Paynes prairie should be on here

Morrison Springs in N W Florida is another awesome place to visit. I dove in the cave there several times with great enjoyment. Another wonderful location is Jenny Springs, a totally breath-taking place to visit and camp. Thank you for the video, we loved it and it is so nice to sit and watch again and again.

One reason Venice has sharks and their teeth is because of the dark sand. Sting rays hide in the dark sand. Sharks love eating sting rays.

Less crowded and chaotic than prior to 2020. I'm so glad you mentioned the bison! That's one of my fav FL fun facts. :) I think you did a great job cultivating this list.

Andy, I just realized I forgot to include this in my comments in the manmade video. What are the 2 big islands on the map at the very beginning supposed to represent? Another invasive species there in FL is the Argentine tegu (TAY-goo). I know about this one up here in northern IL because a local museum houses 2 of them after they were sent by a Floridian several years ago, who offered them to keep from getting shot on sight.

I used to find tons of sharks' teeth on Venice Beach, especially inch-long sand tiger and mako shark teeth, but ever since they built the sand back up to prevent erosion, I think they are few and far between. They seemed especially prevalent during March and April.

I would love to say Ocala National Forest and the St. Johns River, but those could easily be divided into several different categories on their own. Not only does the St. Johns River flow north, but it also flows south, being one of only a small handful of rivers in the Americas to do this. There’s also a point where it makes a near perfect 90° turn and flows west.

If you want shark teeth, don’t go to Venice Beach. It sucks. Go to peace River. I have found thousands in the river but none on Venice Beach. Ask any local they’ll all say the same thing. Also, there are several farms by where I live were you can dig for shark teeth. The use equipment to pull dirt out of the river and set it on the ground for you to look through. But they get the dirt from down deep so there’s tons of shark teeth in it.

Chemical farming run off is the biggest threat to our worlds reefs
@dylancummings398 Жыл бұрын
Yea but just like all the other environmental issues they want to blame the individuals not the giant industrial companies. Instead of banning industrial runoff into the rivers and bays, or the overuse of high potency fertilizers near the springs, or the insane carbon emissions from industrial manufacturing plants they want me and you to ride a bicycle to work and not wear sunscreen.
@kirkdomizio93415 ай бұрын
Do you know that water (H2O), carbon dioxide and hydrogen are chemicals. So saying chemical farming what do you mean?

Golf courses are the biggest culprit, they use way more toxic stuff than farms and they are everywhere, usually right on the beach too

Devils den is overrated. Hoses and cinder blocks liter the bottom. Yeah the water is clear, unless there has been a single SCU B A diver with their big fins stirring up the sediment. And I would never tell of my secret spots.

The caves shown are NOT in Florida. Florida underwater caves do not have formations. A cave must be dry at one time to develop stalactites and stalagmites, Fl caves have never been dry.
@velindaivie4342 Жыл бұрын
We do have some dry caves. Maryanna, Fl as he mentioned is one of them. I've also personally visited 2 others in central Fl that are smaller but dry.
@annab2717 Жыл бұрын
My son and I developed Devils Den into a park. When we first visited the place there were piles of garbage in the cave and the surrounding land. And yes, Devils Den is a dry cave with stalactites and a beautiful spring with crystal clear water on the bottom, actually an eye into the Florida aquafer. We removed tons and tons of garbage from the water and the surrounding land. The neighboring farmers tried to discourage party goes by towing all their old machinery, etc. into the cave, including a barrel of used motor oil. Prehistoric fossils from the Pleistocene were found in the cave, including human remains from the earliest people that lived there, many thousands of years ago, long before white settlers came to America. The history of this place is very fascinating. Yes, at one time this cave was dry for thousands of years.
