Rewatching the movie on Halloween last year properly cause before I saw it on edited cable tv, but I love your take on it, but for me it felt more of like a reflection of each person’s authentic nature. Needy was a pure hearted, loved Jennifer and perhaps looked up to Jennifer cause Jennifer seemed to “know more” than her. But Needy’s instincts about the dudes from low shoulder were correct which shows Needy to know more than she realizes, which until you realize it you don’t necessarily see your own internal power. Jennifer on the other hand is insecure and used Needy and others to feel better, much like a narcissist does. Jennifer fits well into society that is Patriarchal and fits the “feminine” ideal that women are to be objects of desire and use our body parts to attract men. But yet she wasn’t easily able to pick up on the dark energy of low shoulder til It was too late and thus getting sacrificed which shows her innocence . But jokes on low shoulder, with her not being a virgin. Also the reason I thought they were connected was because when Needy and Jennifer were kids, and Jennifer cut her finger, Needy kissed it, possibly ingesting some of Jennifer’s blood. Jennifer represents the toxic masculine ideal of feminine “bad girl”( easy, wears sexy revealing clothing, superficial and empty) while needy is more natural, has a steady boyfriend, is a virgin, is caring and supportive and selfless, kind hearted “good girl”. Jennifer is a false sense of power in that she feels the need to take what Needy has in order to feel Good when Needy was such a good friend to Jennifer despite how not so nice Jennifer can be to her and I think that’s why as I realize as I type this, Jennifer soul being “unpure” not a virgin it’s why the demon gets trapped in the body. If they had sacrificed needy the demon wouldn’t have been contained. And also the scratch that led to Needy gaining some levitating powers, she gets justice for Jennifer by freeing herself from prison and kills the band

I love this! One of the things I've realized is how many archetypal feminine figures represent vengeance: Kali, Sekhmet, the Furies, the Vili, Nemesis, Erzulie Dantor, and many more. It's a sharp contrast with what we are often told the "divine feminine" represents. Many people in power want the divine feminine to be the repressed Needy, the light feminine without the balance of the darkness. If they really understood the full scope of the mythology, they would see how essential the integration of the dark feminine is to rebalance an unjust world. Great analysis of an underrated film!

Nowadays it's spiritualist claiming she's some appropriation of darkness and worse in the past- 1980s indian Jones movie where she was portrayed as a devil. It was awful. I also hate the Indiana Jones depiction of Kali: what I was thinking of when I referred to her as a vengeance figure were depictions like her emergence to defend the goddess Durga from demons; or in the Bollywood film Karan Arjun, where a man murders two boys in order to steal their inheritance, and after their mother prays to Kali, Kali helps her sons reincarnate into positions where they can all reunite and take back everything that was stolen; or in the music video "Dana Dan" by Indian heavy metal band Bloodywood, which is about fighting back against an epidemic of sexual assault. In all of these stories, to see vengeance as bad is to take the side of the abuser against the abused. I do maintain that vengeance is the right word, but only if you understand that the negative connotations heaped on that word are a tool of an oppressive system. Oppressors want the oppressed to feel guilty for fighting back to restore balance. Sekhmet, as you said, restores the balance of Ma'at. Erzulie Dantor is born from a history of slavery. Kali defends her devotees. They all exist in different cultural contexts and the differences between them should not be erased, but they all demonstrate that calling for vengeance is not necessarily evil, and that it is a valid expression of femininity.

I would argue that when Anita killed Jennifer, she effectively integrated the dark feminine. The unintegrated light feminine would never kill, but killing for the greater good integrates a "dark" action as a necessary part of the divine feminine. I think this is reflected in the fact that although she is imprisoned, she feels at peace with her circumstances.

According to the mythology of the movie, Jennifer became a succubus because she was improperly sacrificed - she wasn't a virgin so instead of dying she became inhabited by the succubus and transformed. She literally was no longer human. From what we hear of Needy at the end, she is still human, she's just an enhanced human with paranormal abilities. "When you're bitten by a demon and you live, you get some of its powers," are her general words, I'm assuming if one of the boys who Jenn bit survived he would have powers too, Needy is just the first person to survive her. I think while Jenn turned into a full demon or demonic being, Needy is more like a hybrid. Although she kills the band at the end she's doing that to avenge all the friends she lost including Jennifer, she doesn't eat their hearts or seem to have cannibalistic tendencies, more like her newfound penchant for violence comes from finally having had enough with men, monsters, bullies etc all getting away with their trespasses. It seems like she retains humanity but is a broken person for sure. I've always wanted a sequel where Needy becomes a travelling monster hunter and maybe saves a girl who is reminiscent of Jennifer from sharing her fate as a way to bring it full circle.

It's not as if you know the woman and her full intention, either way the symbolism is there, and nobody made any of this up, these terms have been around longer than Jennifer's Body and Feminism altogether. oh lord oh please please please stop. the director and producer of this movie made it as a feminist critique. thats why there are so many jokes about the killer being referred to as a man and how only a man could do something so horrific. i need yall that are "spiritual" ppl to please pay very special attention to the ideas being fed to you. often times these talking points eventually circle back to that tradwife evangelical thinking, a lot of this feels very dog-whistle-y already

I think you've made an interesting point. Whilst I find human polarity endlessly fascinating, occult KZbin is sliding into trad-wifey territory. It's been happening for years, actually. However, I don't know if I can necessarily say this about this video. It seems to me like in its analysis of JB, it's arguing for the middle path of femininity, not either/or.
