OMFG THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT!!!! Not only did his Dad die, but the man was murdered horrifyingly by terrorists. That by itself is plenty bad enough, but then once a year on the anniversary of his father’s murder the news will replay all of the videos from the most traumatic day of his life on a loop for most of the day!!! And it’s very feasible that the moment his Dad died was captured on video. And idgaf if you like Pete or you hate him, NOBODY deserves to have that happen to them. I can’t tell you how relieved I was to see this comment and how many people liked it. It gave me a smidge more hope for humanity. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗

@@jenncarutis8464the thought that your dad would still be with you if he wasn’t this amazing, selfless person who charges into fire to save others must be such a head fuck. Not only that they COULD have lived, but now you’re without this absolutely amazing person in your life. My dad died 2 days before I was 9. It messed me up he chose something over me and it killed him, but at least I know that man would probably never be a great person in my life anyway x

@@Deenurr Oh…wow. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I was raised by my father. He was a single parent and raised my brother and I by himself when my mother abandoned us to “go live her own life” since she married my father when she was so young. My father was in the Army. They met when he was stationed in South Korea. She later admitted to me that the only reason she married him was because he was so head over heels in love with her and she wanted a green card. Those were her words. She left us when I was 8 and my little brother was 4. On my 11th birthday we were on Christmas vacation with my dad’s family when my dad got a phone call that he needed to return back to Ft. Hood, Texas immediately. My dad had received orders that his unit was being deployed to Iraq for what we all now know as Operation Desert Storm. I was old enough to understand that when my dad left that there was a chance I might never see him again. I hugged and kissed my dad for what could be the very last time. I knew that he could die. That people were going to try to kill him and that he might have to kill people. And it wasn’t until I was much older that I fully comprehended how traumatic that experience was for us. The stress of it caused me to develop stomach ulcers, PTSD and my dad STILL suffers from health issues, mental and physical, because of things he was exposed to while there. Things that he still to this day will not discuss with me. I think he thinks that maybe I’d look at him differently or love him less if I knew. And even though I know that there isn’t any way that would happen because I am a parent I don’t push. I understand wanting to appear strong to your children. Not wanting them to think less of you because of things you did or said you aren’t proud of. So maybe because of that I understand to a certain degree what Pete suffered through. And when people say things like she did it triggers me so hard.

@@jenncarutis8464 that’s awful, and you’re so right, it is a very traumatic thing for a kid to go through. My step father was in the army but I don’t think it really sunk in to me that he would be going into a war zone, I just knew I’d miss him. I couldn’t imagine being the kid of someone who goes off into war now, or served as a cop in America. It’s a lot of stress and pressure for little and developing minds x

her views on suicidal thoughts is dangerous. i have suicidal ideation, where i wanna kill myself but i love my friend too much to do that to her. talking about it isnt manupilation, it is bringing awareness to a deadly stuggle. suicidal ideation is not revenge. it is not victimhood. suicidal ideation is a mental struggle where every day i work to keep myself alive. talking about it isnt making me a "victim". im not manipulating anyone. i dont want someone to be sorry for me or anything.

literally! weaponising suicidal thoughts or ideation (whether someone actually has them or not) would be something like "if you leave me/are mean to me/anything else I deem unacceptable, I will kill myself and it will be your fault". not always said as directly as that, but it illustrates my point. talking about suicidal thoughts or ideation is healthy and good, and acknowledging what makes you want to keep on trucking in life is also healthy and good!

As an adult male with Bi-Polar, I can say it took YEARS for me to find the right regimen of what prescriptions would help me out the most. And even after finding meds that work, the meds you require can change out of seemingly nowhere. Changing SSRI's and other meds like them is common. It isn't easy to find the right combination. I wasn't diagnosed until after leaving the Army, my psychiatrist attributed it to a combination of high anxiety and PTSD from duty. It comes in and fucks your mind up. Some people never find the meds they need by the time they have to have them, or should have them.

"You can't be medicated for borderline personality disorder, it's like. your personality" As a person on medication for my BPD, I want to share some personal experience on this harmful myth. I was put on mood stabilisers at the age of 16 (2016). At the time i was diagnosed with a general mood swing disorder, as i didn't actually get my BPD diagnosis until 2020. (being diagnosed with something that big during lockdown was... an experience, to say the least) Less than a year before getting my BPD diagnosis, i got taken off my meds against my will. I also have ADHD, and a doctor went against my therapists advice and took me off lamictal, saying i was being dramatic and lying about my mood swings, and that this was due to my ADHD. Since I got diagnosed with BPD during lockdown, and i was moving because of school a few months later, the day i officially got diagnosed was also the last appointment with my therapist, and I didn't get any follow up with medication. I had been on an amphetamine-based ADHD medication for a few months at that point, which is important later. After moving, I asked my general practitioner to start lamictal again. She contacted the clinic where i'd gone to therapy, and they adviced against it because "you can't be medicated for bpd". They basically said yeah no you gotta get DBT treatment(group therapy) since medication isn't a thing. Since i only had a year left of school, i did not get accepted into the local therapists office, and therefore couldn't start DBT anytime soon. Instead they adviced my doctor to up my ADHD meds, since time and time again they would blame my ADHD for causing the bpd symptoms, even after being diagnosed. Now, my main BPD symptom is mood swings. To get diagnosed in Norway there's a list of 7 or 8 symptoms, and you have to have 6 of those symptoms - i have all of them (or at least had at the time). But i have extremely rapid mood swings even for BPD. At worst i could have 30+ full on mood swings in a day, which is fucking exhausting. ADHD also makes me feel every emotion more intensely, it always have, so that does not make it better. My current therapist, a 70 year old psychologist who at one point was one of the most trusted experts on BPD in Norway, said it's basically 'BPD mood swings on steroids' and has repeatedly said it's the most rapid case of mood swings he has ever seen or even heard about in BPD patients. So, not ADHD, but ADHD makes it worse for sure. Still, they upped my ADHD medication because of BPD symptoms. I was against it, but went along to get goodwill and to not get labelled as a 'difficult bpd patient' which very much is a common thing, and can prevent me from getting treatment. After being really fucking high on amphetamine for about a month because my body was NOT ready for upping the meds, i landed and could confidently say that it had not affected my mood swings, it had just made me high. So they put me back on lamictal, then took me off, and on and off rapidly for a couple of months. Never got to a place where it actually helped. I move back home when school is done, this is in 2021. I start therapy, preparing for DBT treatment. I did not realise or even suspect this at the time, but i had started developing a disability at the time - relevant later. They put me on lamictal again around november 2021, and by christmas i had started stabilising. My boyfriend said that even tho i still clearly struggled doing house work (disability, which we didn't realise) it was clear that i had a lot more energy, less mood swings, i didn't overreact to things, and started getting a bit of structure in my life. I get accepted to a DBT team in january - and they take me off my medication before i've even met my new therapist. So i go see her, unmedicated, miserable and with worsening symptoms from february to april-may ish. My disability was rapidly getting worse, which i thought was due to migraines and being off lamictal. It was in fact not. I asked if i could get taxi to and from appointments since i was in so much pain that taking the bus there was a huge challenge, but they declined it. Then, april or may 2022 they kick me out because i often couldn't get to appointments because i was in so much pain. I asked my new GP for lamictal about a month later, and she contacted the therapist office i had been going to, and they said 'medication has no place in our treatment.' But yet again upped my adhd meds, which ended in me getting literal fucking heart problems because i was on such a high amount of amphetamine every day, and considering my body clearly used over a year getting used to 50 mg, it didn't handle 70 mg at all. I get put back to 50 mg, and at this point the meds doesn't even last properly through the day because of my bpd. To make things worse - at this point we had realised that yeah no i was clearly disabled. I was in so much pain, struggled getting up and walking around, i had to get a shower chair because i had started fainting after showering from standing for too long, and a special chair that i could use in the kitchen, but still i could only sit long enough to make myself a sandwich. November last year, i got a wheelchair to use outdoors, but could only use it on high energy days, which were rare. After getting fed up by how little actual help I got where I lived at the time and being denied to every mental and physical health program in the entire town twice, I move to the neighbouring town, and my GP gets me into that towns therapy centre, considering how bad my experience with the previous one had been. I get accepted in less than a month even tho the wait list was 3 months, because the new therapist office considered my case highly urgent just from the amount of mood swings i was having, and the lack of proper treatment i had previously gotten. Within a week, they put me back on mood stabilisers. Now it's been a few months, and we think i'm getting close to the right amount for me. I barely have BPD symptoms. As soon as I started stabilising, we finally could properly start figuring out the rest of my medication. At the moment the only remaining medication to adjust is the ADHD meds, and if everything goes according to plan, we will be starting adjustment of that before april. Since i'm not constantly having mood swings, I have the energy to actually getting to know my body again, and I have learnt what I can do to prevent pain but still be active. After more than a year without the possibility to have a social life outside of my partner, I now meet up with my friends every week. I work out with a physiotherapist in a heated pool every week, which relieves pain and restores bodily function. I still have the wheel chair, and I have started building a bit of muscle now that I can drive it myself instead of being pushed. As you can tell, I have a lot of health issues that outside of my BPD. However, BPD is really fucking intense. I am not gonna go into my trauma and what caused my BPD, but let's just say i have a record in the category the abuse falls under. The worst known case in Norways history. One of the worst known cases in that category on a world basis. Basically, i've been through some shit. Some really extreme shit. There isn't many people with more severe childhood trauma than me that I know of, at least not in the western world. Still, going through that was NOTHING compared to BPD. I cannot stress enough how fucking painful, stressful, and damaging my BPD is when I'm off medication. I'm so thankful that my BPD is less damaging to other than the standard for BPD, but it caused unthinkable amounts of damage in my own life and to my own body. We even suspect that my disability might be due to the harmful coping mechanisms i had when i was off medication. BPD is the worst shit that can happen to a person in my opinion, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. So, the fucking "there's no medication for BPD" shit really grinds my gears. Don't get me wrong, medication isn't for everybody. I have friends who tried, and it had a negative effect, while DBT treatment helped. I didn't actually get to start group therapy before they threw me out - which my GP now says was ableist and unethical - so I don't know whether DBT would help me or not. But what I know is that medication is crucial to enable me to function. Mood stabilisers is the key that we needed to be able to start working on all my other health issues. Even experts are divided on whether medicating BPD patients is right or not. I believe that the common misconception that it doesn't work for anyone, has prevented broader studies on the effects mood stabilisers has for BPD patients. For a lot of people, they probably need a combination of treatment and meds. I still have some symptoms that probably I need DBT for. But preventing BPD patients from trying medication is harmful, unethical, and based on outdated information. The experiences I and many others with BPD have had with doctors, nurses, therapists and psychologists is horrible, because of said outdated information. Being denied treatment for injuries, being denied trauma therapy, being denied medication for the BPD, even being denied medication for physical illnesses because of the assumption that people with BPD are manipulative and toxic drug addicts that will overmedicate on everything we get our hands on - there's been loss of life because of the outdated assumptions. Idk it grinds my gears and i find it upsetting ok bye

Thank you for this. Seriously. The hell I’ve been through with BPD was helped with therapy, yes, but often the mood stabilizers helped me get to the baseline where I could even START to internalize the therapy. Suffering from the worst effects of the disorder during a time where it was being used against me in abuse by friends, I couldn’t get my brain to feel safe enough to focus and learn the correct coping mechanisms because I was just in *so much* pain both emotionally and physically (as my body would start destroying itself through deprivation because I would be so upset I couldn’t function). I was given Wellbutrin rather than lamectin, but immediately after taking my first dose of it, it was as if I was living someone else’s life. I was so free from the pain and anguish I had been tortured by for years in such a short amount of time that for the first week I would cry every now and then from pure happiness. It allowed me the buffer I needed to truly begin my journey to heal. I still struggle from certain things as the trauma will affect me for the rest of my life of course, but I am the happiest I have ever been, and even if I miss a pill due to the adhd I also have making me forget sometimes, I can still get through my day safely and happily because I’ve been able to process the worst of that trauma through the stabilization those meds have allowed me to experience. It cannot be understated how life-changing the right combination becomes for us. I went from giving away my possessions and getting my affairs in order to leave this world, to flourishing and creating so many healthy, engaging friendships to replace the ones that put me through hell. I truly feel that people who do not have the disorder or do not closely know someone who does who was able to overcome it should not speak as authorities on it. Otherwise it leaves room for the pervasive stigma and myths to hurt even more of us than they already have. BPD is such a uniquely debilitating experience that no one can even come *close* to understanding it and its struggles without one of those situations. But of course, to show people the truth about the disorder takes so much time and effort, and it’s so easy to spout off bullshit that isn’t true and deliberately make things worse rather than use the energy to understand and empathize.

Honestly, BPD diagnosis’ are handed out like candy these days. The more I’m learning about it, both as a person with mental illness and someone whose career is in psychology, i truly believe it’s the new ‘hysteria’. BPD behaviors are also expressed in people with CPTSD. I don’t even really agree with the idea of diagnosing BPD because it falls under the category of personality disorders when people with BPD don’t typically share the same characteristics of people with full fledged personality disorders. The diagnosis comes from the DSM-5 which is very much a medically aligned way of diagnosing that aligns with symptoms and presentations, not trauma informed care. Most people I’ve met, personally and professionally, with a BPD diagnosis are people with complex trauma and typically also have adhd or autism, usually undiagnosed. DBT is incredibly effective therapy for people with BPD and trauma, as well as a host of other things, like even just having an unstable childhood where coping skills and emotional regulation were never taught.

She's really just coming up with her own imaginary narratives then spins EVERYTHING she sees into fitting her delusion, usually because she hates a certain celebrity. It's how she justifies spinning Pete talking about legitimate personal struggles and turns it into, "look at this manipulative asshole guilt tripping his family!" Excuse me, WHAT? Maybe to her everything she says is a performance and manipulation but what Pete said had no hint of that at all. He just said he didn't want to hurt the people he loves since him taking his own life would devastate them. That's a very normal feeling.
@FelineBlue

to me it seems like it is because she has so little empathy that she's incapable of thinking about how her actions will affect other people, unless it can get her something she wants, so it doesn't even occur to her that other people can care about how their actions will affect their loved ones without having an ulterior motive for it. she doesn't realise that not everyone else is constantly manipulating and gaslighting to get what they want like she is, so she just fabricates an ulterior motive or reason so that the world will fit her own warped narrative.

You are not a teenager who's brain hasn't even stopped developing yet. She calls them boys because they really are a boy- they're a child compared to her. This is why it's making people feel sick because she is a grown, 40 year old woman targeting boys to manipulate. The reason you're cool with it is because you're so close in age to her. I don't mean to say that you think the same or act the same, but you' re not a "boy" that she's referring to. She wouldn't date you because you're old enough to know what a relationship is like. Teresa Lisa Caleb do you know pete personally or have a degree in psychology? jw. childhood trauma doesn't abruptly end at five. childhood trauma has a major impact on kids of ALL ages. i have a psych degree and have literally worked with children at elementary school level with high ace scores (a score related to the number of traumas they've experienced in childhood). you can be negatively affected in countless ways and there absolutely is not a cut off at age five 🙄like jesus christ even a two second google result will tell you personality disorders often develop in teenage years and early childhood (the phase) ends at around age 8.
