an overlooked fact by the public is that Bobby called Shane out for blackface and Shane purposely edited that out in his video. He also edited out any time Bobby admitted to doing youtube manipulation to make him seem like he's saying 'thing bad' rather than 'thing exists'. Honestly, Bobby was on his way to making great video criticisms ala Lindsey Ellis and I'm so sad that Shane ruined that path he was on

And also... lie detectors are dogshit, anyways. Only use they have is manipulating someone ignorant of their properties into a confession. (Like empathizing "I *will* know if you lie," etc., pressuring them into admitting just to take all the pressure off of themselves,) because really the only use they have is detecting if you have anxiety or tics or something entirely unrelated to if you are lying or not. If someone uses a lie detector test as evidence in a court room, someone *else* has a bad lawyer.

If Shane just accepted it as criticism it would rightfully make him look bad and turn people against him. Shane knew exactly what he was doing by labeling Bobby a hater. Shane played the victim and then after he and Bobby met he conned Bobby into working with him as to show how good of a person he is. It took the attention off of Bobby's criticism and put it squarely on him and in a positive light. Shane manipulated his way through the entire thing.

The thing about Bobby is that he was never a "Hater." He wasn't anywhere near "obsessed with Shane Dawson" or anything you would have assumed him to be, but for the people who didn't know much about him, or learned about him through Shane Dawson, that's what you would assume. In reality, he was just a critic, a critic who happened to make a video on a man who couldn't handle criticism, who had dedicated fanbase, and who decided to deal with his 'critic' by personally re-branding him with his own name.

I remember watching him as a rising KZbinr for a couple years before he met Shane. His videos were always so creative and flowed so well, yet everything had character and uniqueness. The channel community was really close, but everything changed when Bobby met Shane. We were happy for him that he had a sudden explosion in growth, but it was weird. The comments were filled with og folks but also there was an influx of all of Shane's teen fangirls, and the community was so... Bipolar? It was odd because this growth wasn't from natural growth or even a normal similar-sized channel collab, but one of the (at the time) KZbin greats and pioneers of this platform. There was this weird internal clash on his channel between the og fans and the new Shane fangirls. Bobby started to change his content up, something he did every year and a half about. This was normal (as shown by his 3.0, 4.0, 5.0... all those eras on his channel being different content). I don't think that Shane's new fans understood this, but also his new content was something that I dont think Bobby would have ever tried with his newfound KZbinr fame, wealth, and diverse and polarized fanbase, especially his uh, "music" career. One day I hope he makes a return. His social media presence is nearly non-existent, only appearing in select photos posted by his family members. Perhaps not a full return, but a return where he could show us his growth outside of KZbin and social media. One where he shows how he's grown since meeting Shane, since his departure of KZbin and social media, since he left his "personal" photoshoots, since the pandemic, and since (what I can only assume since) he returned to Tennessee. Wishing him the best.

GAE FOR IRENE BAE Oh yeah, his content also had a big play in the death of his channel. I feel like if he kept his channel the same as it was before he met Shane, he probably would’ve been fine. But let’s be real, Shane used the power that he has to manipulate most of his audience.

God, this whole thing makes me so mad. Shane acted like Burns' messiah in a way, completely turning this kid's life upside down in a matter of months. I wish Burns had never met Shane and I hope Burns is soon happy with the content he creates.

@iizou1738
@iizou1738 4 жыл бұрын
I mean, a lot of people already knew at the time (esp because a lot of his current fans were still fans during his problematic past), but imo the majority of people just weren't ready to "cancel" him. Shane had posted his blackface apology video a good while before Bobby's critique, so I think his fans trusted that he'd changed? and Shane was also pretty well-liked on the platform, especially since his content was changing (I remember the early stages of his "documentary" videos got a lot of praise, same with some of the vlog-style content he did with his friends). so ig what I'm saying is, at the time of Bobby's video, people were generally still too willing to excuse Shane's past and he had more defenders than detractors. if I remember correctly, Bobby's vid got a good amount of backlash even before Shane put him on blast, so it probably wouldn't have blown up because of all the dislikes.

@@taetm8868 I'm not totally sure what point you're making? I wasn't talking exclusively about only his subscribers. (I'll prob edit my original comment a little to make that clearer.) because on the platform as a whole, Shane was very respected at the time, especially coming off the series he did with his dad. just because his "cancel" wasn't as detrimental to his subscriber count as James Charles doesn't mean a lot of people in the YT community didn't still turn on him (and I feel like this will have a more lasting effect on his image in the community than the sister scandal did for James, since Shane's past is well-documented and James' scandal was disproven). it's undeniable that the people who still defend Shane are toxic though, you're right. but I don't think I'm wrong with my reasoning for why Bobby's video wouldn't have blown up, and why Shane wouldn't have gotten nearly this level of cancel culture thrown at him back in 2017. his fans are just as bad as him, and that's why Bobby's video never would have taken off at the time. if you look at the video now, all the top comments are recent, about how Bobby was totally right and people should've listened to him instead of dislike-bombing him when it was uploaded.

True, Shane's body language just screams anger and overall just unpleasant. Meanwhile when I see Bobby I just automatically go 'awww'. Its in human nature to believe in loud people rather than quiet, meek people. Thats why the likes of Jake Paul got his massive success. We are apes no matter what, and thats why every fans of celebrity etc have cult like vibe in it. I fell into such trap like Bobby when I was a kid and it makes me cautious, no longer love loud, aggresive, 'fun' people because most of them are fake and just... Unpleasant. There's huge difference between naturally friendly, and loud. Friendly people interact with people around them, loud people instead just use people around them as props to shine light better onto themselves.

The power imbalance between him and Shane was bound to go south. This almost 30 year old contacted this not even 21 year old dude with not even a million subscribers with the intention to label him a hater to those subscribers. But how do you say no to someone who's made it that big? If he did then he'd still get hate, lose chance at making connections, be seen as a coward. Plus, he probably thought "Shane is big for a reasons, I used to watch him, so he knows what he's doing." Shane continues to make him look bad in front of the audience. Asks him questions like would you kill me for fans and stuff. He hesitates and Shane dramatizes it. Then he buys him a car. A CAR! Now you feel like you owe them and you look even worse. And with his extremely devoted fans that are much bigger, they feel the video being disingenuous or uncomfortable but put the blame on the smaller channel. This person has built himself up to be important, kind, sensitive so it's gotta be the other person's fault. Now Bobby is changing locations, around new people, with different subscribers. It looks helpful, but it can be every isolating without guidance. Nothing he is doing is going right, he's confused because everything has changed in a few months. I believe there are valid criticisms of Bobby and should reflect on it. But a multimillionaire taking you in for a few months and then leaving you out when things don't go right is so manipulative and disgusting.
