A sort of how-I-made-it video about my new cotton print 1897 wrapper gown made from a fabulous ‪@wearinghistory‬ Archive Couture E-Pattern, plus chicken antics. My little frontier town cottage was built in 1897 so this project was meant to be!
You can shop the Wearing History pattern here: www.etsy.com/listing/77344130...
More about my outfit:
Shoes: ‪@AmericanDuchess1‬
Wig: Custom Wig Company
And I'm wearing a Redthreaded corset and antique cotton petticoat.

Your babies are so big now! My house was built in 1915 (Birmingham and Denver have a very similar historical timeline, with our oldest residential neighborhoods starting in the very late 1800's), and I absolutely have plans to make a period-accurate dress. Well, many dresses, since it's one of my favorite eras :)

Wow... coincidence! My house here in Wales was built in1897 :) The dress is fantastic! I'm a newbie to sewing, so I lot of the description went over my head...but very inspiring!

Nice. I'm pretty sure this is the exact pattern for the black dress of the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. I recognize that back paneling you've got from the top of your collar down. I'd so make it in black. That would be awesome. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

Will need to take some photos or video with my girls. Skirts are nice when collecting eggs. Plan to make some working aprons though, maybe with some eggs pockets.

I love the idea to make a dress that matches the age of your house 😁 I had played with the idea of making a dress matching my 1910s sewing machine ;) Our house is build in 1922, which would be interesting, too :)

Your chicks are so big now! I really like the changes you made to this pattern - I feel like it looks a lot nicer as a full-length dress than it does as a short wrapper.

That looks like the exact type of dress that I’m looking to make when we return to the States. Without the sack back, because I wanted a dress that was similar to the pioneer dresses in the late 1890’s for the Oklahoma settlers. Some problematic history there obviously, but that’s my part of my family’s history for better or for worse. The front of the dress looks very similar to the pioneer women dresses from the pictures I’ve seen from that era. I’m hoping to make dresses for my girls and an outfit for my son as well to attend Early Settler’s Day type festivals, but those may be canceled anyway, given the corona virus situation. Anyway, enjoyed your video extra because of my future goals.

Also, what manner of corset were they wearing at this time. I know that corsets were going out of fashion shortly after this, but haven’t been able to figure out when the switch from corset to brassiere happened. And the petticoats for a pioneer woman. I’m having trouble locating sources for pioneer fashions as it seems that museums don’t have much for online presentation and I haven’t found any books that specifically reference pioneer fashion. I am apparently bad at research.

The dress, and your chicks, are cute!! I love how you used a completely unrelated pattern for the lining. I think those are fun. :D Are you able to tell Thelma and Louise apart at all?

Are the Schuyler Sisters as big of a Hamilton fan as their Worth obsessed Owner? And are you looking forward to the Hamilton movie as much as I am? Your 1897 dress looks like Anne of Green Gables would wear it. Your work is awesome. I'm getting back into sewing after a 20+ year absence. I'm still practising my hand stitches since I'm going to need a new machine.

Just tar the wood. It'll make your yard smell nice and make the wood last for a long time and your birds won't be breathing any toxic fumes :)

Would you happen to know what the measurement of the waist for this pattern is? On Lauren's page it just says it is probably 26" I was hoping you could give e a better idea. I have to enlarge the pattern. :D

How difficult is it to adjust bodice height for a historic costume? My back waist length is, ahem, short. Like 11.5” short. I have no torso, basically. 😂 While all the pieces would, presumably, make an FBA or any other sort of more girth based adjustments easier, having to grade all the pieces after adjusting for height sounds tedious.
@RedthreadedCorsets
@RedthreadedCorsets 4 жыл бұрын
It's really no different that making a height adjustment on "modern" patterns (I'd google tutorials for that). But yeah, you'd have to adjust each piece. It can be done, but it's definitely more work.
