Brilliant video, I purchased an adjustable dress form a couple of weeks ago. When I adjusted it to my measurements it had gaps everywhere. I couldn't imagine how I was going to work with it so I sent it back. I'm new to sewing but your dress form and padding looks the most natural way to go. Can you tell the make of dress form you used, my measurements are Bust 42.2 waist 35.5 hip39

I have been interested in knitting clothes for myself, and I've watched a ton of videos and read many books, and they would throw around terms like, if you're high waisted or if you need more here or there. I had No Idea whether what they were saying applied to me or not, because they never said what the standard number was. I haven't wanted to spend a hundred hours knitting a sweater that wouldn't fit me, and then not knowing why it didn't fit or what to change. Now I get it! You explained what those terms mean, while showing a physical form to compare, The form I ordered shipped yesterday, and now I know how to adapt it to my shape and I'll be able to adapt knitting patterns/recipes. I'm so delighted! Can't wait to start swatching!

Since that dye has multiple colors mixed to make the red and it’s enough dye to dye much more fabric than you had, you will likely get a result like this if one of the dyes “strikes” more quickly than the others. Often red strikes more quickly than blue. Counter-intuitively, you may have ended up with a redder result if you had only used a small amount of the dye (or if you added a large amount of fabric to the dye bath, such as including a bath towel). I learned this when trying to use an olive green dye. I used too much dye, and since the red struck the fabric first, I ended up with brown instead of olive green. Fabric can only take up a finite amount of dye, so if more red takes up those “spaces” on the fabric first, there won’t be enough spaces empty for the blue. If the amount of dye is limited to what is needed to dye the fabric, you will get a result closer to what’s expected. If you don’t want to weigh, you could just try adding part of the dye at a time to give the blue time to strike. However, I would pull the garment from the bath before adding more dye and stir in the additional dye completely into the bath well before adding the garment back in.

The first time I made myself a tailored jacket in my plus size using an adjustable form, it did not fit in the bust. I was disappointed and ended up giving the jacket to a coworker who was flat chested. I was assuming that as you dialed it up, it dialed up the bust size, not the whole chest. It would have worked if I had compensated for the bra cup size instead-most patterns are for a B cup no matter what you buy. Unless it says adjustable cup size on it. Mannequins are the same-A to B cup. I sold the dress form and went back to fitting everything the old way, adding fabric then altering as I sewed. Now I decided to make my own clothing again because everything in the store is trash, disposable clothing. It looks like you are wearing ill-fitting rags or a tent. I'm deciding which type to buy. I didn't really like the adjustable one for the obvious reason of the cracks. They also have a tendency to move, tilt, and just go out of whack while using them. I fixed mine by tacking strips of aluminum cans across the cracks! This time I will build my own.

Ok. I bought your 1880s Vic pattern and am working on the 1st mockup - never made a corset before and have no real life examples to go off. This video really does not help. Maybe I am just not real bright but I can't see what you are talking about. You already say you sewed the Busk Facing on and ironed it, but wait, what? How? And the written instructions show very unhelpful photos of white on white on white (Same with the video). Can't see what you are doing half the time so its very hard to follow along for a beginner. Going to try and find some other tutorial for this and just fumble this thing together in the hopes I can just get it to work. >_<

Instead of paper, could you use a light interfacing?

My husband & I made several wooden boats, I taught him in a way from making my own clothing patterns, it’s called lofting in boat building .Fun Fact. The first width of fabric was an ell. Thank you Ken Follet in “pillars of the earth series. I think that was the loom capacity of the time. The ell was originally the length from the elbow to the tip of one’s longest finger, about 24 inches, probably what Meg March bought. It was later replaced by the cloth-ell or "double ell". I am quite tall for my age group (62+) so I used upholstery fabrics to take advantage of 54-60” widths instead of spending so much on 45” fabric. Lots more choice now, thankfully

ASMR videos don't usually have any talking. They just include the sounds of you working. For example, the sounds of you cutting, sewing, and doing the other things, without much, if any, talking.

Hi....please tell me you repair? Because i like how you install your busk. No other company does it like that, even when i ask them to install the busk that way, they wont. I have informed them that the way they install their front busk, the corset can't be used for tight lacing, even though they say you can. Well i dont tight lace, but i do wear it snug. The front busk came out, which i knew at some point it would, but no one repairs corset. I tried repairing it by hand, which worked, but again both front busk came out. But I know if my corset was repaired by the way you put your busk in, it would not bust out again. The only thing that was holding my busk in was stitching, and to me that makes no sense. Please let me know???? Help????

What marking tool do you use? I’m struggling to find one that won’t leave a permanent mark.

I agree on the expandable form, I got one for Xmas, and thought I loved it. Got rid of the box, and now can’t return it. So, I’m watching you to learn how to pad her up. I seriously think I will close my form up completely and just pad the whole thing, then cover it after padded. New follower

This is what I truly imagined Meg would look like in real life. This was exquisitely done.

All of the padding below the shoulders speaks to the truth that clothes hang from your shoulders and that area is the true measurement of what pattern to use. There is a "pivot point" at the place where the arm bone connects to the shoulder and we always need to pay attention to that for great fit. One person below commented that we are not linebackers and that's where the larger sizes fail. The larger-size designers/graders don't take that into consideration and is why we sew clothes that really fit.
