I think it quotes plenty. For example it says "pray without ceasing" I thought there was a lot more. The book is amazing teaching how to fight, and guard against sin, how to refrain, how to repent.

This is really interesting as a window into the church in such an early period. Something Dr. Svigel said about this work as satirical reminds me of something I just learned in my recent class on 1 & 2 Corinthians, where Paul in 2 Cor 11 brags on his struggles and weaknesses. It seems as if Paul was being satirical and parodied the res gestae of Caesar, where he would have bragged on his accomplishments (something the “super-apostles” apparently were also doing). I love what parody and satire done right can accomplish. This is something even Jesus did.

Was wondering if there is any eschatological insight that may been understood from the Shepherd of Hermas or how the early church may have depicted it?

I'm with Tertullian on this one. Deut 24 - 4 Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

The Shepherd of Hermas was life changing for me. I was joyful and grieved at the same time when reading it. I was joyful because many of the things spoken in it the Holy Spirit shared with me years ago. I was grieved because many don’t know about it and every Christian should read it. I believe it should be canon and in our bibles today. It was found in 3 manuscripts especially the oldest bible codex sinaitucus.

The Shepard was post trib or pre wrath too! Read Vision 4. Read the ENTIRE Vision 4. Soothkeep has a video saying the Shepard was pre trib. WRONG! Lee Brainard was very deceptive in his video about the Shepard. Brainard only quotes the FIRST PART of Vision 4 to push his pretrib poverty. If you read the entire Vision, it's obvious that the Shepard is post or pre wrath..

I'm SOOOO thankful this book didn't make it into the Canon. I think this book is where the doctrine of Purgatory originated. These are some moments/teachings from that book: - the moment of salvation in baptism for the remission of sins, - then if you ever sin again after that you only have one more chance after baptism to repent of whatever sin, - then if you continue to sin after that, no amount of repentance will matter anymore; you will have to be tortured after death for those unrepentant sins before you are allowed into Heaven. I really think this book is what caused the unbiblical doctrine of Purgatory to enter the Church. From then on, people weren't just worried about getting out of Hell so they can make it into Heaven; Christians started worrying about sins that we would be judged for BEFORE making it into Heaven. You would have to be tortured for any unrepentant sins / any unforgiven sins after death before getting into Heaven. I'm thankful that in Christ, ALL our sins are washed away. Christ's death on the Cross was the final sacrifice required to take away the sins of the world.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1 6-10

have you visited a Christian book store lately? how many books are inspired, and who do you trust? judge righteously “And unrighteousness shall again be consummated on the earth, And all the deeds of unrighteousness and of violence And transgression shall prevail in a twofold degree. And when sin and unrighteousness and blasphemy And violence in all kinds of deeds increase, And apostasy and transgression and uncleanness increase, A great chastisement shall come from heaven upon all these, And the holy Lord will come forth with wrath and chastisement To execute judgement on earth. In those days violence shall be cut off from its roots, And the roots of unrighteousness together with deceit, And they shall be destroyed from under heaven. And all the idols of the heathen shall be abandoned, And the temples burned with fire, And they shall remove them from the whole earth, And they (i.e. the heathen) shall be cast into the judgement of fire, And shall perish in wrath and in grievous judgement for ever. And the righteous shall arise from their sleep, and And wisdom shall arise and be given unto them.”

"For the Lord has sworn by His glory, in regard to His elect, that if any one of them sin after a certain day which has been fixed, he shall not be saved. For the repentance of the righteous has limits." This would seem to contradict new testament teaching that we are saved by faith in Christ. In fact I dont see salvation by faith in Christ anywhere. I see all the other comments are positive, so am I missing something?
@hmommy310 ай бұрын
You may be missing that The Elect are the Hebrews. The writer of Hebrews (I think Paul or Barnabas) made it clear that there’s a cutoff point for them. As there is for all of us (see rev 22) Eventually time runs out. Judgment falls.

@TheRemnantRadio Not a single question about one repentace for christians after baptism? Seriously?...Thats scary... If that is what the early christians believed I personally think they would know more about God then we do 2000 years later.

I read a good chuck of this book and that night i woke up and saw an image of the baphamet on my ceiling fan. I decided i would not open that book again after i had this vision. Ive also had a similar experience with the book of Enoch. I woke up after reading it in middle of the night and couldnt see out of one of my eyes until i said in Jesus name my sight is restored and immediately i could see again. I dont have these type of things happen to me when i read the bible so i am in conclusion the Holy Spirit is warning me to stay away from these books.
