Just wonderful. Tim Mackie (and Mike Heiser) has been instrumental in my understanding of the Bible. My openness to the supernatural view,btw, came from a layperson study of quantum physics and biology. Multiple dimensions, the fact that matter is mostly empty (the late physicist, Richard Feynman speaks eloquently on this) and the double slit experiments,etc. Cracked my mind open. We live in a mysterious and unimaginable universe. Accepting the biblical, supernatural mindset is not a huge leap. It actually makes sense. Love this channel, keep bringing this kind of content! Get both Mike Heiser and Tim Mackie on together sometime, would be epic!

That was very helpful! Tim always amazes me with the textual connections he makes across the entire Biblical narrative. There are so many stories in scripture that seem to be random and often raise more questions than they answer, but they all serve the larger narrative of Jesus Christ as King.
@sonnybrown47584 жыл бұрын
39:15 maybe this is just common knowledge, but I just had a thought. We know that Moses raised a bronze snake in the wilderness for the people to look at to live when being attacked by poisonous snakes. We know that Jesus referred to this as a sign of him being crucified. And we know that Jesus "became sin". Tim has pointed out sin has become an animal here at this timestamp. And elsewhere here he talks about bronze being a motif for sin or strength or something to overcome (can't remember what he said. It was in regards to Goliaths armor). But it's pretty amazing what has happened with the sign. Moses raised a bronze snake (sin) to look at and not die. And Jesus was raised having "become sin". The words being used נְחֹ֔שֶׁת bronze נְחַ֣שׁ serpent, as Tim pointed out, have the same letters. Like just to make double sure you get it in a poetic way. The bronze serpent is sin. And Jesus had to become that for us. Wow. Just so powerful. I read elsewhere while looking up the herbrew. "God's punishment and mercy are inseparable. When you see judgment in His Word, or feel it in your own life, look deeper. Once flipped over, we see that God’s infinite mercy is on the other side of that coin." (google the quote to see the website). This is just so amazing. God is so so awesome.

@AdamTheEvangelist244 жыл бұрын
Well said. You are absolutely on the right track with the comparison. In fact Tim's explanation adds even more context to the bronze serpent story now that you add the elohim side of the equation. It has always been a storyline that has supernatural elements but the reality of the Spirit realm has been intentionally removed and confused by those that have abused their position of power in the medieval church. You just can't make any sense of the whole bible without the spiritual side added back into it's proper context. When we do accept it as the reality we then can understand what Jesus Christ was really facing and conquering. It makes his victory on the cross even more impressive and amazing and humble us even more.
@Liminalplace14 жыл бұрын
@@AdamTheEvangelist24 I see 1,Samuel 17:5 has about Goliath'a bronze armour. But what about Sauls is bronze helmet, amour, that David puts on but takes off because he's not experienced in using.? I accept the spiritual realm as I'm an Anthropologist and see it. I'm just a bit cautious of reading a narrative into the text. .a bit like Origens and Clement of Alexandria allegorizations to see Grek philosophy in the text. Tim appears to have a social agenda behind his narrative, that I think his imagination reads into the text. I just think caution is needed.
@AdamTheEvangelist244 жыл бұрын
@@Liminalplace1 The absolutely best way to get up to speed with the context of the biblical writers world view is to read the Dead Sea scrolls. If you actually read 1 Enoch, Jasher, Jubilees, The testements of the patriarchs and so on, it will quickly fill in many MANY of the blank spots. Remember two things though, #1 it is not about should they be included in the bible and #2 this is the library that was zealously protected and copied by the Zadokite priests that were overthrown by the corrupt Pharisees Jesus rebuked constantly. It is truly by the hand of God this library was preserved so that we could have a chance to see what the second temple faithful were reading and believing. I have studied them and can say they are a treasure from heaven that has exposed so much of the corruption that happened by the Roman Catholic church and restored so much foundational biblical truth. I promise you it is a journey well worth taking.

Great explanation of Genesis 3 and Genesis 6. Most of our churches have a lot pf problem accepting whats in the Scriptures about Genesis 6.
@kristenspencer97517 ай бұрын
I think instead of "accepting" you might use the word "interpretation". Just like people differ on when the trib occurs...they differ on Gen 6. Likewise, some people believe that God created Satan as an adversary, thus giving the first humans a real choice. Others do not believe that, and think that Satan fell...but they never explain who tempted Satan...where sin came from etc. I'm not certain pastors have to teach this from the pulpit. They're so focused on the new believer and those who don't read their Bible regularly and all the earthly struggles people have and try to provide comfort and hope and the message of salvation. If maturing believers are so led to dig a little deeper...they should! Then someone like yourself can hold a Bible Study to share with others what you are learning.

been described to me as the difference between western thinking and eastern thinking. The Bible contains REAL history, REAL people and events that actually happened; REAL geology, REAL science. Yet at the same time, it has a spiritual component...types and shadows, parables, "secrets" that the Holy Spirit is all too willing to reveal to the true seeker with a heart after God's own.
