It drives me to despair that so far, this very poor quality clip is the only original Sherbs promo I've been able to find. We all know the incredible '70s output of this awesome, awesome band when they were Sherbet, but in the '80s when they became "The Sherbs" they released 2 albums (and an E.P.) of songs that were and still are SO SO SO good...and so underrated.
I know they did at least three promo clips (I'm not talking TV performances here, I mean original concept videos) for "I Have The Skill", "Never Surrender" and this one "We Ride Tonight", but I'd say there were more because they released a lot of singles as The Sherbs. If anyone has their clips in good quality, please...I will pay you for copies of them if I have to !
So...I apologise for the poor quality of this, it's not my work and I didn't put that stupid giant blob on it that says "The Sherbs" and ruins the vid even more...but until a better copy surfaces, at least this is better than nothing...

I remember this being in heavy rotation in MTV's earliest days and I couldn't get enough of it. My 16 year old self would ride my motorcycle at night through the empty streets of downtown Fresno singing it out loud in my helmet. Good shit.

An ice skating couple just used this song in their routine today in the Winter 2022 Olympics...I about fell off my chair because I just bought the album last week "Defying Gravity" because I was feeling nostalgic and wanted my own copy and to specifically hear this song "We Ride Tonight". It's a sign of something...I just don't know what yet. LOL. How random!! Made my heart smile because it's so obscure and I love this song.

Hey Bob I'm looking at what Jack was talking about And it's definitely not a particle that's nearby It is a bright object and it's obviously rotating because it's flashing It's way out in the distance, certainly rotating in a very rhythmic fashion Because the flashes come around almost on time As we look back at the earth it's up at about 11 o'clock About maybe ten or twelve diameters I don't know whether that does you any good But there's something out there

I haven't heard this song in decades, and yet I remeber it so well. This song was very big in the NY area at the time. It's funny how some very good, and very big songs fade into obscurity - while many lesser songs are kept alive by radio etc., indefinately.

Anyone else notice there are a few hooks in this song that are similar to Patti Smith's "Because The Night" from 1978? The Sherbs may have been ignored in Australia, but later on Braithwaite did have some solo success here in the late '80s.

@CaspianHawke Thanks for the comment. While Sherbet were HUGE in Australia in the '70s unfortunately The Sherbs could not recapture an audience in the '80s. This wasn't helped at all by the fact that Australian radio completely ignored their '80s output. The way they were treated was a disgrace. The Sherbs actually had more success in the USA than they did in Australia. The average Australian would have no idea this song even exists...seriously. I agree...this is one of DB's finest vocals.

Daft Punk used this sample and mixed it with the voice of Eugene Cernan to tale us a story and they came up with a song that is really strong and EPIC ! they have been using samples for all their lives, because back in their days, it was the way to do it ! The Sherbs is the ONLY sample they use for this album, and it is a master piece ! Listen to the songs, love them, enjoy your life instead of saying they are thieves !

I worked for this band in 1980/81. I was at the filming of this clip and at the time thought this was the worst filmclip in history. Looking back at it I realise that its so bad its good, great even. Tarantino on acid. These guys were the nicest band I ever worked for and I look back at those years fondly. Its a shame that their existance was cut short by an ignorant bunch of Australian DJ's who couldn't handle their transformation from pop idols to potential rock gods.

HA!! I used to record the radio (Wisconsin, USA) on cassette daily; I hated commercials then sift through what I had later. I heard this song back in the late 70's early 80's yet had no idea who they were... (also "No Turning Back" and "I'm Alive" - awesome tracks!) * All 3 songs found their way on an eventual mix tape. Rememember those? It was only until about 7 years ago using the internet the mystery was solved... band name "The Sherbs" - HA!! it took awhile to associate them to the "Sherbet's".

Hi... I'm OnceWasRStrathfield under different name. Sherbet were one of the biggest bands in Australia during the 70's, but couldn't get arrested by the time this song came out. In fact, the average Aussie wouldn't even know this tune, but will immediately sing out of their other hits as Sherbet (especially 'Howzat'). Daryl struggled with failed bands after Sherbs and even held down work as a construction worker. Then he came back with One Summer and was praised as the comeback kid in Oz. In Oz, not knowing Daryl was in Sherbet is like not knowing Michael Jackson was in the Jacksons... but it's understandable if those outside Oz wouldn't know.

Sherbs released this song in 1982. Wrong. Daft punk don't have the talent.

@70s80sVidz YOU ARE THE MAN! I agree with all you stated. You obviously are knowledgeable about this amazing & obscure band because you are a true fan with all the facts you stated. Don`t worry about the clip you uploaded which you think is poor quality. It`s the only original MTV/VH1 original video available. I have only seen it a few times only to be removed due to copyright infringement every time within weeks of it`s uploading. So stupid, due to the potential aftermarket CD sales. Thanks!

I'm probably the only African American female on the planet that remembers this band and loves this song. Poor quality or not, thanks so much for posting this. Brings back a ton of memories of my crazy 80s childhood. Thank you, thank you, thank you! #80sKid

You're not the only black person who loves this song. I, as a black rock musician and black male, loves this song too.

I used to have this album back in '83. They were part of the "Australian invasion" of the 80s though not as successful as other bands from Down Under!

Hey Bob, I'm looking at what Jack was talking about and It's definitely not a particle that's nearby It is a bright object and it's obviously rotating because it's flashing It's way out in the distance Certainly rotating in a very rhythmic fashion because the flashes come around almost on time As we look back at the Earth it's up at about 11 o'clock About uh, well, maybe ten or twelve dia- diameters I don't know whether that does you any good, but there's something out there
