The Dolphins offense was on the field for FORTY FIVE MINUTES compared to the nearly 15 minutes the Colts offense spent on the field all day yet they couldn’t convert many of their chances into touchdowns-this is why having an elite QB is so important.

And why dominating time of possession does not guarantee victory
@lordsirdragor3 жыл бұрын
While I think Pennington was perfectly serviceable when he was healthy, he was hardly ever healthy and I think the bigger issue was the lack of a productive receiving corps, especially a red zone threat, Fasano was decent but he never was anything close to what you want in a TE1 and that year all the team had at receiver was a slow streaky Hartline and a guy built for the slot and not the outside in Bess as this was before Ginn figured out how to run routs and catch. A very frustrating year but a fun team to watch at times. But you are right, if your offense has the explosiveness an elite arm brings you, you're never out of it.

Man, people really don't understand the degree of difficulty Manning had with some of those Colts teams. It always looked like disappointment because he extracted so much more out of those teams than they probably should've been. Another classic example. The margin of error was NOTHING, and they still pulled this out.

There are many examples of T.O.P. not meaning a hill of beans. This is one of the exhibits of that. I will say this though, the introduction of the Wildcat gave a very mediocre Dolphins offense some life and allowed them to be competitive. Like most gimmick plays/aspects of the game it can be successful for a time before its flaws are exposed. In some respect I think the same is occurring with the Ravens style of offense with Jackson at the helm. A good enough defense (or even a not so great D like Detroit's) can bottle it up. Oh and on a sartorial note, the Dolphins REALLY need to go back to these unis or at least their '60s inspired throwbacks they've worn recently.

The end of the baseball season & start of the NFL season overlapped, at times creating conflicts if the baseball team made a deep playoff run Several teams in the era of the cookie cutter multi-purpose stadiums (Three Rivers, Riverfront, Cleveland Municipal, Baltimore War Memorial, Anaheim Stadium, Oakland-Alameda County, the Vet, Shea Stadium, Astrodome, Candlestick, Yankee Stadium) shared stadiums between the MLB & NFL team. The Bears & Cubs shared Wrigley before the Bears moved into Soldier Field in 1970. The Patriots were in Fenway with the Red Sox in the 1960s Shea Stadium (home for the Mets & Jets) in 1975 was home for the MLBs Mets & Yankees, and the NFLs Jets & Giants. This was due to renovations to Yankee Stadium & the Giants building Giants Stadiums that they would move into & eventually welcome the Jets in 1984. The grass field was home to 4 teams that year. One example: the 1997 World Series (CLE vs FL, now MIA) went the full 7 games. Problem was that Game 7 was the same day as when the Dolphins were to host Bears. The game was bumped to MNF Bears at Dolphins on MNF… where have I heard that… So, most of the country saw SB 31 rematch of Packers at Patriots (Green Bay won easily) while (I assume) those in Chicago & Miami markets saw a pretty entertaining game
