i've had shelties my entire life so far (i'm on number 3). they are the best dogs ever. but i have to say my first two were female, current is male, and the male is way way way more affectionate than the females ever were.

Shelties are very keen about recognizing their own kind. My first sheltie instantly hated any dog that was not a sheltie. It was amazing because he was never wrong. Even a small collie could not pretend to be a sheltie. Other shelties are not so racist usually. Two sheltie characteristics to distinguish from collies. Sheltie muzzel is shorter and more blunt. Sheltie eyes are focused forward while collies have more peripheral vision. How can they know they are a different breed?
