Apples hype machine obviously has a down side. I had a interesting conversation with someone who wanted to return their vision pro, I mentioned that a lot of people who bought them were forcing themselves to use them way beyond the point the novelty had worn off, and the impracticality kicked in, rather than face up to the fact they had just wasted 3.5k at that moment he said he realised thats what he was doing and made his mind up to return it before it ended up in a cupboard.

I think something in Meta's favor is that Apple has kinda pulled what usually happens with other companies in reverse and is beijg the first to try doing something that is still fairly experimental, which is a passthrough native interface. The feedback that consumers give on the passthrough and windowed experience of the Vision Pro will be very useful to Meta in seeing where they may find value in pushing things on a future product.
@elstcman5
@elstcman5 3 ай бұрын
yeah, that's an interesting role reversal. Apple is usually NEVER the one to send the "experimental" products to market. In that sense I would love a reality where Apple just started releasing a line of their experiments that don't have the kind of pure product clarity that the Mac and iPhone do. Lmao just a bunch of bastard products mass-produced with awesome engineering

I'm sorry guys, but you don't get the bigger picture. Hard- and software wise the Vision Pro is absolutely capable of much more. It all comes down at creativity. The one thing only creative people can add, programmers will make it, but the basis is creativity. You just talk about the 'the thing' as it is. Like someone who sees a piano for the first time, describers the piano, hears the music that programmers put in to it, but a real creative pianist can get most out of it and than you will be in awe. So, discussing the Vision Pro as being 'just another VR headset' is absurd. It is much more than this. And there is a huge gap between consumer and business wise usage. This part is also missing in you discussion. I'm not an Apple geek, but someone who knows a lot about all kinds of technical innovations since 2003 and know what works and what not. The Vision Pro is a huge leap that outsmarts everything that is out there. If I would use it just as it is 2 weeks after the introduction, I would agree, but try to step out of this narrow minded conclusions that are based on easy targets and understand the bigger picture. To easy to judge by the way you do.

I believe that the Vision Pro had to be released now, and at the same time, isn't ready. Both those statements can be true. The Vision Pro is going to create a lot of market and cultural peneratration is the consumer space, as well as set up a good foundation of OS updates, which will be important in creating the experience they want when they can make something for the masses. If they waited on this, it would likely be too late. Nevertheless, the Vison Pro is inherently flawed in a way that I can't imagine that Apple is completely proud of.

That's not the first VR headset ever came out. Apple could easily integrate the battery in the headset if they removed the 2 completely useless external screens and used lighter materials instead of magnesium (like every other headset out there). Instead they chose looks over substance and ended up with this awful design.

It's currently lacking many features but many of them can be accomplished via software updates which is expected in a 2 week old Gen 1 product. The reason for my return was hardware based which only a next gen product could solve for. The obvious being the comfort. I tried both bands in different positions, a couple light seals but as the days passed, I felt less and less excited about putting it on due to lack of comfort. Secondly, the pass through is not good enough which makes looking at phone and watch notifications very difficult. Too often I had to resort to lifting the VP off my face to see my phone which then disrupts the best comfort fit I finally was able to situate. In the meantime, Apple should mirror all notifications from external devices in the ecosystem even if you can't interact will all. I've seen mixed reviews on this aspect. Many share the same concern while others say it's not a problem for them. Anyways, I think VP has a future and will ultimately follow the same successful path as the Apple Watch and iPad.

Honestly I think when Mark is saying Meta is "open player" it's just communicating poorly. I believe it's more of a comparative note. There's no hardware data connections for the Apple Vision pro (outside of the dev kit), so you can't sideload, and you can't wire it up for PCVR, AVP doesn't seem to have compatibility with OpenXR standards. The AVP is not intended to connect to anything at all outside of the Apple ecosystem, where the Quest is capable of operating outside of the Meta ecosystem.

If you’re really interested I wouldn’t suggest ppl that are not VR reviews. Find a vr channel and listen to there thought. Like he keeps walking about motion blur is a camera issue. lol it’s a panel problem bro. It’s called low 😊resistance and it’s the trade off to OLED screen Vs lcd. And let me tell you. When using vr that doesn’t have OLED and blacks are gray. It’s bad. So it’s worth the trade off. But these ppl don’t no anything about that stuff

personal opinion alert! i’d prefer the vergecast on stay on its own channel. as an audio listener through apple podcasts, as well as someone who looks forward to each high quality verge video, it feels like my verge youtube feed is going to get dominated by vergecast eps. again, vergecast fan here, just would like this to remain a place i come to for high production features, reviews, etc!

Xbox strategy is all encompassing, so both classic consoles and streaming. You guys dont have to latch on to simplistic axioms like theyre not investing heavily into exclusives like Indiana jones, Fable, Avowed, and several others.

Please talk to some creatives who use vr for work, sculpting, animation, cad design, etc. this is the real killer “pro” use case for vr/spatial and everyone is sleeping on it (including Apple, meta, devs, and journalists). We are all still using 4+ year old apps regularly that have not been updated in years, but working in real 3d space is so game changing that it’s worth it.

Apple doesn't want people to share the device because they know how novelty the experience is, and they don't want possible future customers getting bored with the vision pro, before they've even bought one.

These clowns are making complaints about things that aren’t major issues for people who actually use it. What the clowns don’t get is it does everything I can do with my phone so this idea there is nothing to do with it is laughable.

Tough watching them talk about video games and making sure to emphasize how some smaller indie games aren't as big as a big ps4 tentpole like the last of us. Also xbox fans dont care of if some games go multiplat.

Returning the AVP was so predictable. Many of these buyers never intended to keep it. Serves Apple right for overhyping the headset. They won't try their BS in the UK because they know we won't put up with that over here. They simply wouldn't get away with it like they do in the USA with its weak consumer advertising laws.

@@PeterNooteboom Apple lied about Spatial video in their ad. They showed parallax in the spatial video, but the truth is it is just regular 3D video like you get on the Quest 3. Watch the video, "Spatial Video vs 3D : Apple LIED to us" for more about this.
