Loved the old band (especially the guitar player who really got into it), but I must confess, this collection of musicians (esp. the cool chic on the sweet vintage Silvertone Galaxy guitar) look a lot more like I'd imagine the Shins to look--very mod/60's... They also play tight as hell. Mercer's a fabulous songwriter. Keep it up!!!

James Mercer can do no wrong in my eyes. I feel like a child looking up to their parent when I think about how much I love and admire him. The Shins are just so good. Like you know when you like a band and you wince, waiting for them to put out an album where they "sell out?" This is the only band whose sound has changed, but, to me, never lost anything.

@ myxomytosis There's a great tradition of a main artist performing with different line ups under a band type moniker. Eels, Bright Eyes, Iron Maiden, The Fall. The reasons for line up changes are mixed, sometimes fall outs, some times just stylistic changes and so on and it can both dilute or bring fresh life to a project. It certainly isn't automatically a bad thing. Personally I think Mercer's music is still good though I agree that it doesn't quite hit the heights of the original line up.

loving the shins but dear god how many times can you change camera angle in 30 seconnds. and whats up with always having something in the fourground of the shot thats out of focus. Some needs to get slaped in the face over this.
