On of the rare songs that can always consistently make me cry anytime I hear it bc of the abstract philosophical things it does to me and because of nostalgia. I can generally repress full on weeping (lol) but I can't stop a tear welling up and a pang in my chest.

This album holds so much sentiment to me. My mom would play it in the car when it came out; I was about six. I just remember my sister and her driving around the neighborhood in the summer with this album and Flake Music providing a soundtrack. So much nostalgia; so beautiful!!

We have the same exact story for half a second I thought this might of been an old comment that I'd left haha, been listening to the shins for 13 years now and don't think I'll ever stop

holy what!!! that's so cool! I know for certain I'll never stop- they're such a beautiful band. :)

I think I was about 25 when it came out. Haha. I loved this tune when I heard it on the college station. The now defunct 97Xfm. I listened to the band for a while before I knew what they looked like. I loved the fact they just looked like a bunch of goons.

I remember listening to this in my car as I waited for my kids to finish their sports practices at their middle and high schools. Now my kids are adults, the only thing left of the Shins is Broken Bells; I'm an old woman and life goes too quickly.

I learned of the shins from transworld skateboarding videos, appreciated them in scrubs and experienced them live at roskilde festival.

What a nice change from the nursery rhymes and chants that seem to constitute songwriting in the current music scene. James Mercer is a real songwriter.

Honestly when I read these lyrics, I was astounded. This song is one big beautiful poem.
@AndySalinger337 жыл бұрын
Cynthia, same here. All of James Mercer's lyrics are just so good, but this one really is extra special! "Never betray the way you've always known it it is..." Oh, & the killer outdo, with stacks of synths, etc...it's a minor masterpiece, and it holds very special memories for me, as well. Particularly this album, and Midlake's album, The Trials of VanOccupanther. I'll assume you know that band & album, but just in case you dont't, might I humbly recommend their entire catalogue? They don't sound like the Shins. But their songs are out of this world-beautiful. And that album, TTOV, is truly a work of art. One of those records that's a total piece of alert, from 1sr track to final track. It's a genius concept album, about this inventor character, trying to live in, & make sense of a cruel world, of which he cannot relate. You might enjoy streaming the album on a KZbin playlist, etc. But I really can't stress enough the importance of listening to it from start to finish, in the true track listing order of the album. Not to seem like a hipster, jut that it's a true work of art, with a lyrical through-line/cohesive story, as well as musically...it's very thematic, returning time and again to little motifs/musical concepts, etc. Anyway, sorry to ramble. For some reason I felt compelled to msg you. Good luck. Cheers.

Transworld Sight unseen skateboarding brought me here! Had a flashback from like 10 years ago and this melody came into my head.. Took me like a week to find who and what this song was but the melody has been in my head for years! And I listen to rap.. And I probably look like a gangster to the average person... Music has no boundaries I guess.. Cheers
