Genji is one of the most honest characters in this broken game. There is no good reason or good excuse for him to be at the abysmal state he is in now comparatively to the vast majority of the hero-pool. The fact that they buffed NONE of the damage in his kit when they changed the HP in season9 says everything you need to know about the balance team. Dash did 50, when HP was still 200. HP is now 250 and dash still does only 50. Tell me, would it really be THAT insane to ask for 60 damage on dash? Oh they buffed Moira's damage btw. Why? Your fuckin guess is as good as mine my friend. Just buff the easiest characters to play in the game for no good reason and then leave high skill floor characters in the dust, likewise for no good reason. ("Buffed" melee is a moot point btw. Genji is not the sole beneficiary of this change, he needs to be in enemy melee range to melee the enemy himself. This is by no means a QoL+ for cyborg ninja man. Dont gaslight yourself into accepting crumbs and bare minimums that help him barely stay above dogshit as "oh well at least they did that!!")

Before S9: Dash+Melee=80 dmg, or a little more than a third of the dmg needed to kill a 225 hp hero After: Dash+Melee=90 dmg, or less than a third of the dmg needed to kill a 275 hp hero Heck, let's make this simpler. With healthpools of the 200 hp heroes going up by 25% and the damage of non aim intensive abilities also going up to keep breakpoints the same, wouldn't it make sense for dash+melee to also have +25% damage as a combo, or 100?

The problem with allowing Hanzo to one shot heroes like Genji would be that those heroes outside of that matchup would have the durability of wet paper elsewhere, the only possibly fair adjustment I could see is trading sheer HP for armor but even that might be situationally worse. As someone who plays both Genji and Hanzo frequently, Hanzo is very much a victim to 5v5 (less shields + less bulky targets = hanzo can shoot squishies more or just storm arrow HS the tank so people feel the one shot more often) and his problem mostly stems from the devs balancing him backwards. Hanzo would be perfectly fine if they nerfed the ever living hell out of storm arrow but let him have his one shot, that's what most of us want, or just scrapping storm arrow entirely for another utility arrow. But instead they're thinking of BUFFING storm arrow but still not letting him have his one shot. The nerfing of his projectile speed also ironically worsened the RNG effect because since it's slower it feels more random to hit for both the enemy and Hanzo. Genji on the other hand mostly just needs 28-29 damage shurikens and at LEAST 115 damage on blade (115 damage allows us to 2 swipe + dash 275hp targets while also giving us more leniency on 250hp heroes without bringing back the nanoblade combo they're scared to death about). There is absolutely no reason for Genji to have 27 damage shurikens which is the lowest he's had in OW history where every HP pool is larger than before.

Def agree about the genji part, but I don’t think blizz is going to revert the one shot for hanzo on 250 heroes. They hate one shots for hanzo, even tho widow and hog both still have theirs for some reason. But the feeling of getting one shot by hanzo just is pretty bad, and the support player base was louder than the hanzos. Some possible ideas I have for him: let him keep arrow knocked after wall climb, increase projectile speed and reduce knocking speed, and then push him more into a utility identity with multiple arrows, 3 different arrows for utility (sonar, possibly anti and hinder, not so sure about the specifics) and then a damage slot (storm, scatter (used mostly to get kills on people you headshot and then clean up with a scatter quickly, not get kills on its own), and some other one)

I hate the "send arrows down a choke" like yeah, that can be said for a shit ton of DPS or even aim characters in general. You're eventually gonna get a kill or massive damage either way and it only makes up for (usually) a small percentage of the map. But if I can hit a headshot on smaller HP or other DPS characters from across the site or map, I think I deserve the kill, even closer as well. It's really not even a satisfying kill with storm arrow spam either. It's hard to hit shots with Hanzo so idk why people act like being one-shot across the site is 'lucky". Pretty sure they're just mad someone can aim with him. It still baffles me that people were salty over Hanzo one-shots on lesser HP characters or his damage output on characters in general. I can't really say much for Genji since I suck as him but some friends I had who mained him used to be annoyed as well. I imagine they'd be annoyed even more now. Moral of the story, don't let shit players override the actual flow and balance with bitching where there's no problem but only them. Or if you wanna counter Hanzo, just switch to more agro or annoying characters like Tracer, Sombra, Reaper, or even Genji ironically. Sorry for the rant but it's a good video man! Glad more people are pointing out the odd or bad decisions made to these two.

Hanzo is just a storm arrow bot now that does nothing but shoot tank. Genji is way too reliant on his team to get anything done. You have to bait out all the support cooldowns to play because otherwise it’s impossible to kill them and god forbid you commit your dash because then you just die with no escape options. Cree DR and fan got gutted this patch for some reason so he’s literally just an M1 bot that can use his ult to get maybe one pick from someone with no CDs who is way way out of position. So all 3 of my top played characters are just insanely one dimensional and boring now and it’s sad. Blizz has completely tailored this game for casuals and it shows by them neglecting and ultimately killing OWL as well as them making the easiest heroes in the game the most broken.

I used to fucking love hanzo dude. They absolutely massacred him. I don’t know how annoying he might’ve been in the competitive side of things but at the end of the day he was really fun to play. If you ask me it all started when they removed scatter arrow, not bc hanzo couldn’t get one shot kills on the entire cast anymore, but because imo it marked the start of hanzo turning into an esports character (or at least getting out of the way for the esports characters) from just a fun character to play. I feel like if fun was still their goal then scatter would’ve gotten a minor rework at most, instead it got completely overhauled and removed. I reinstall overwatch every now and then out of sheer boredom and keep getting reminded whenever I try to play him like I did before how shit he is now. He can’t hold a point and he can’t support a team, neither of which are what he’s supposed to do, but it gets really sad when the dps character can’t kill at all. Flanking with hanzo used to be so fun, now he dies if you look at him funny and doesn’t have any damage to compensate. What a joke.

i started to play OW2 in s9, and my theory is people were fine with nanoblade because you could counter it by for example: -mei shift -bap imor -support ults -or just solo ulting in general And if the player base didn’t complain about nano blade for the 6 years. I dont think it was a problem. They just didn’t care about genji during s9. They were too busy jerking off to kiriko and widow I main both of these characters and i alteady KNEW that the players who complained about hanzo were the trash new ones. The problem with these characters are doing fine stat wise, but they dont feel rewarding to play. On the other side if you are playing against these characters they can still feel very strong, Hanzo can delete tanks with the blink of an eye and that will win a teamfight instantly or genji can delete a support with the blink of an eye. They cant buff these characters because they are oppressive to other roles as they are, which is why they are still performing pretty good across the ranks (including gm). I have no idea how they should fix this rewarding feeling vs them becoming server admins, maybe a second tank could help them getting back their identity.

Bring back Hanzo's oneshot, or maybe remove all of his limiters (draw being reset on wall climb, draw slowing you down), then remove or rework storm arrows to something like an "EMP" arrow that only has very situational usage, like breaking barriers or doing more damage to overhealth, but has no extra dps and can't burst down tanks so easily.

I started playing ow1 fairly close to release. I love archery irl, so Hanzo called to me straight away. Had fun with him, then I started trying Genji and fell in love all over again. They felt fairly strong without being OP, and overall I was having fun. Lore-wise they've always been amazing too. Heartbreaking to see them get gutted in ow2. The fun factor for the Shimada brothers (and Doomfist) has plummeted since ow2 cannibalised its older brother. Edit: cool to see another Lars main who plays overwatch lol

Like hanzo rn doesnt feel the same, sure the projectile is easy to hit, but what does it really give you? Its just makes one of his abilities (storm arrow) an insta-press in any close-mid range scenario and the rest being called "unbalanced" because of it, while he really isnt even that good. The whole hanzo is just the storm arrow now, and its the main reason why for example i switched my main. It doesnt even feel the same to hit that lucky headshot on a flying enemy, cuz it doesnt evem get rid of them anymore, making them even more of a hardcounter. Maybe i am whining cuz headshots dont one shot anymore, but if widow can just insta kill u with one click, why hanzo cant? Maybe just make his arrow damage at least 250 to the head (maybe 270? Idk what do you think) and make the projectile a bit smaller, just so it doesnt qualify as log anymore, it would make him more fun tbh.

My idea to balance Hanzo is to rework him so that both hi elo sand low elo can use him , instead of storm arrow he should get a stance , he will switch from storm bow to sky shatterer bow . The sky shatterer will be a long bow this bow will take longer to reload and longer to charge the shot but it will be able to one shot many characters I think making it do 140 just so he can 1 shot 275 HP characters should be sufficient . In this stance he can use sonic arrow as usual and will get a new arrow in which enemies in direct LOS of the arrow (which will be a breakable ) will take 25% more damage, the arrow will only have 100 HP that ca be tuned down . Now back to storm bow in here Hanzo will get nerfed storm bow will only do 100 damage an arrow but he will have a faster reload and charge time so that his damage is more consistent and storm arrow will remain with 75 dmg a shot and 5 arrows . Leap will be retain on storm bow stance but lost on sky shatterer bow stance . There will be a 25 second CD between switching on either stance .My idea isn’t perfect and probably makes Hanzo busted but this gives people both the one shot potential and consistent dmg the numbers can be adjusted as necessary.

Looking at all your gameplay I've noticed a lot of the crazy plays and fun situations in overwatch 1 were 2cp based for me. I know people hated it but the more focused style the game had of basically just being a hallway one team had to push through was fun for me. I think volskaya anubis and hanamura were also some of the most fun to play. Now every map is super long range with less small chokepoints where genjis deflect had a ton of impact. I feel they kinda made his kit less useful by opening the sight lines and removing a lot of skilled movement around maps on different elevations. It's simpler with a lot more randomness now.

game takes no skill which is why i switched to league an actual hard game that rewards skill & outplay. whenever i lose in league i genuinely feel like i made a mistake and could have played better, whenever i lose in overwatch i don't feel like i'm getting outplayed when heals outheal damage and supports and tanks do just as much damage if not more than me as a genji one trick. they either need to buff the health of damage champs to balance that out or nerf the damage output that healers and tanks do. the game requires no brain to play at all

Honestly I hate hanzo and I always have since the storm arrow changes. As a tank player nothing is more frustrating then having to completely rely on your own dps to kill the hanzo since he just shreds tanks and doesn’t have any weaknesses like reapers range you can exploit. Literally the worst case scenario is playing tank on a sniper map with double snipers who are better than my dps. I can’t support the with shields because hanzo does so much damage so quickly. I can’t close the distance because then they pick off the dps and leave me stranded. Thats why i quit overwatch

The game is only ever good when the things that are hardest to play at a baseline are the strongest. It’s not even about pro meta, although they are also more fun to watch, but about how it feels for the average player. Bottom line is that balance never matters. What matters is perception. If the average player feels that there is a fair exchange between the effort needed to play something and how strong it is in game, they will have a good time. And over 2/3 of the playerbase will always be roughly in that average range. Which is why the creation of brig and other characters like her in an overt attempt to control top meta, at the clear expense of those average players, killed the game.

The game is so decentralized from what it used to be and fights that actually take place within reasonable distances that prioritized the point. I'm in a similar place as a Reaper main, The balancing in this game is so atrocious that not even a third of the roster is viable. They keep adding and buffing BRAINDEAD Characters that are NOT designed for the game. Who get free value without engaging with the objective in this objective based game. Sojourn is such a hilariously insane example of power-creep that went unfixed for months. But she's NOT DESIGNED for PVP. You can't move of peek anywhere because there's so many snipers and you can't play proactively because plenty Characters have get out of jail free cards.

Love genji, hate hanzo. Honestly love that he basically can’t be played simply because he is a gimmick widow alt. Also saying that aiming at the ground infront of the largest targets in the game and doing more than a pulse bombs worth of dmg with a 12-ish sec cooldown is crazy. Storm arrow at least forces you to know how to aim with the hero. Honestly just give storm arrow more up time and 2 or 3 extra shots and a shorter cool down on leap and i think hanzo will see more play time. Genji just needs a shrunken dmg up to like 28-29, and maybe a blade re-work.

@@bichitomax So in fandoms, often in the fanart and fanfiction category, we use a / between two names to indicate a sexual or romantic relationship between those characters. So Genji/Hanzo implies a VERY unsavoury relationship between the two.

I know hanzo players hate the one shot change. But getting hacked by a sombra and needing to 2 shot with a headshot or THREE SHOT with all body shots is disgusting. At least let me 2 shot body shot squishy characters if you remove one shot headshot.

Being a genji main and accepting this games horrible balance decisions and deciding to stop playing overwatch is one of the most sad yet amazing feelings ever. Sad because he's one of the most fun and risky characters to get value on. Amazing because you will genuinely never regret your decision. Seriously, this character has never been decent to play ever since all the bullshit supports were added that grant players free value. If you've ever thought about quitting the game, do it. Honestly, just do it. Don't hold out hope for this character or anyone you may find fun unless they provide easy value.

100% agree with the take on Hanzo. Even back when he was good he has never been broken(post-scattter arrow) or really meta defining but I feel like many in the OW community gaslight themselves into believing he’s nothing but a RNG luck hero that takes no skill just because they have walked into a few random Hanzo arrows and deserves to be in the gutter. It’s sad that a character I’ve spent so many hours on is reduced to spam and every other character can just do it better. I’m praying whatever they have planned for him works out

At least with Mauga there are skillful elements with him in higher levels of play i.e. playing against hard Sigma poke w lucio hybrid comps that just take you down to 200 hp before you can rotate... That being said Cardiac really needs to go or a full rework cause it's the only reason he's seeing any playtime it's unironically more cancer than Queen shout pre patch
