Hello all, I have some experience with small 2strokes; Been a mechanic for a yard care company for 25 years. all 2 strokes run on properly mixed ratio... we all know this, but what a lot of individuals don't realize is that if you run ethanol based fuel the alcohol content breaks down the oils ability to mix with the fuel and you end up with a blown engine! Seen it many times! Thanks for your shlogs I love them, Josh.

Is this based purely on anecdotal data?

@@seamarsh3756 For years we used to run good old fashioned pump gas with no issues, then the fuel industries started to push the Ethanol fuel, (which is fine for some things.); but the issue started to appear, we were losing engine's on most of our two stroke machines. What we found after doing many tear downs and lots of research, is that it came down to the fuel separating from the oil. We switched our fuel usage to non ethanol and haven't had any issues since then? I personally have spoken with many mechanics on this topic and done extensive research.

@@JoshIngles sounds right in beginning but I live in Ca (don't hate me:) and its all ethanol based gas, I can't buy non ethanol (not technically true for all of CA but very hard to find), I have lots of 2 strokes.. live in a rural area and lots of chainsaws as well. perhaps manufactures made changes or the oils are now formulated for ethanol?... either way seems like that would be a very big deal if it was widespread problem in a state of 40 million? I hear these claims a lot but don't see much to back it up.. engines blow up for all kinds of reasons. im sure ethanol is not great but it can't be as bad as you think.

I loved hearing the scottish pipes in the middle of the shlog - is this your ring tone? I also like WP´s OC-forks, before they came up with "X-plor". The model in this shlog (2003 model) has that tripple bushing which is not always good, some work, some stick awfully (based on manufacturers tolerances). The basevalve adjuster of those fits the X-Plor. Only one on the right side fork (the one with rebound) and combined with a very hard basevalve (only one side) improves the X-plor extremely and makes it compliant and predictable, still not hard. Stack: active: 3x24 .2; 2x22 .1; 20 .1; 18 .1, 16 .1, clamp with 15mm. Basevalve 8 clicks open. Left side comp must be fully open >= 18clicks. This costs less than 50 bucks in parts (shims and Basevalve adjuster/carrier KTM:#48600586S3.). The beauty - no need to disassemble the whole fork. Just take out right fork, put upside down. Modify with with adjuster and shims. put back. Try it! Best regards!

That is my ringtone. Yeah, we install these base valves into both sides of the XPlor forks and make them really good.

Think it's was the thing to leave the spacer and second bush out on those old WP forks. Less stiction when the tubes flex.
@highlandcycles Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember that too. But this thing is just a trail bike so I figure its fine like that.

Do you put straight fabuloso in the ultra sonic cleaner or mix with water?
@highlandcycles Жыл бұрын
Mix with water. About 4 cups fabuloso in 10L tank

Which ultrasonic do you have and would you recommend it? I've never heard anything good about those wrench rabbit kits. Especially anything all balls I've never had any luck with those personally or in the shop for customers.

I use one I got on Amazon. Not sure the brand. I have had mixed experiences with wrench rabbit. The smaller bikes seem to not work well (85’s and smaller). I’ve had good luck with them on bigger bikes. I am not a fan of All balls but the cranks and main bearings are usually hot rods for the bigger bikes and I’ve always been happy with them. Also, since it’s my kids bike and I don’t mind tearing it apart, I’m willing to take a chance.

Poor 125. But thats the life of a yz125. Wide open till needs rebuild. Forget how spendy is for rebuild as do it myself. Is that melted plastic on the combustion chamber? Maybe they didn't run enough oil or crank was at its life. On the older 125s the shifter detent use to come apart and drop ball bearings. I don't miss ringing a 125s neck. I'm doing a 06 rm250 with locked crank now.

I used a four wire ignition that when turned off, activates the kill circuit and deactivates the starter switch. Still super simple to install. This coming from a guy who HATES working on electrical...rather go to the dentist. I think the descriptor you were looking for on the YZ was FUBAR!!!

I enjoy the repair videos as much as the riding and build videos. Always new tricks and tips mentioned as you’re moving along people like me are tucking away for the right time. As well as we all have friends that ride something different so it may help us down the road, especially the diagnosis vids and what to look for can help with keeping a check on maintenance so it doesn’t happen
