This is the same guy a few years ago that said KTM is testing TPI bikes on the public before they were actually proven. He modified his bike with a new head and who knows what else. Next he will start complaining about the new TBI bikes and say they are not ready for the public as well. Stop complaining and buy a Sherco or a Beta if you have so many issues with KTM. Or don’t pin your bike in 1st gear until it explodes as expected with after market mods. Happens to the pro’s race bikes all the time.

I’ve recently bought a tm 2t with carb. These are slightly cheaper than a ktm but they are hand built Italian quality (what ktm used to make 😂) it runs kyb forks and all the good stuff. I love it, worth considering. My previous bike was 2020 te 250 2t tpi and never had any problems with 100 hrs. I think ktm has lost focus and starting to use inferior products and increasing their prices that’s why I changed from ktm based bikes and I believe they will lose a lot more customers in the future. Shame ktm
@danhopkinson2811 Жыл бұрын
@Dirt Bike Junky I went to look at some TM's on friday. The build quality was fantastic! I love that even with the 23 models you get the option between Carb or TBI. The only issues I know of with the TM is on the fuel injected bike a few people have had wiring looms fry and need replacing. my local dealer believes it's a small circuit board that gets hot and melts and seems to happen when the low fuel light comes on. another thing is needing a "priming switch" to maintain power to the powervalve should you stall the bike, otherwise it has to keep running a calibration cycle. What puts me off buying a TM though is the lack of aftermarket parts available. Replacement parts are easy enough to get direct through TM but there's virtually nothing aftermarket available for the bikes, and being such a small brand it would be hard to sell the bike on or get much money for it in resale value. also the dealer was fairly small without a demo bike and does not do test rides or demo day, there's no way i'd pay $16,800 for a bike without any experience riding it in off road terrain first. i'd like to stick with KTM but definitely have concerns about quality issues

I'm not defending ktm but is this the bike you have 100 hrs. on? I watch a couple videos where you had it wide open up long hills. 100 hrs is quite long time on a motor with high compression head and running it hard for any brand motorcycle. I found on tpi's some oils like Motorex leave the tip of the exhaust extremely dry even with just easy riding while Red Line ( ester based oil) leaves the tip of the silencer damp with oil. with the extrema high rpm's you turn a ester based oil like Red Line or Maxima K2 may help the tpi to have better lubrication and reduce the temperature of the head and piston. easter based oils have extremely high film strengths also.

I used a low compression head, which should create less pressure on the piston, which would extend its life. My friends and I have been driving like this for 5 years and we change the pistons every 150 hours and this never happened. Of course, we changed the pistons earlier if we thought it was necessary. At 105 hours, I performed a visual check and the piston looked very well, also the compression did not change. I agree 150 hours is a lot, but so far this has not happened and we have here 10 bikes in my riding team. But why does this only happen on 2022 and 2023 bikes?

FYI “Planned obsolescence” was a term coined by GM during the 50s and it describes periodic styling changes to make owners desire the latest products. The theory that poorly made parts are INTENTIONALLY sold is dumb. No company WANTS to produce an inferior product and damage their reputation. However, market conditions (C-vid etc) have affected quality across the board. Including cae parts and electronics etc. That being said I will not buy anything Chinese if I can avoid it.

Why are people buying the most expensive bikes to get the worst bikes on the market. Just buy another brand of bike. it's that simple.
@johannesderkannes79352 жыл бұрын
Well, some years ago I found your channel because of the video called "if you want problems buy tpi". Sadly, you didn't seem to learn from your experiences. KTM sells not completely developed and badly tested technology to customers who pay much more for their bikes than people who chose other brands. And they get much less equipment on their bikes for that price and do the field testing for ktm. But everyone keeps buying orange, blue/yellow or red/white KTM 's. Its hilarious. I got a 22 sherco se300 this year with 2 hours for a price that was some thousands below a ktm and has so much more equipment from factory. Plus I am convinced of the reliability of the carb engine with its great electric powervalve. I am, because a small brand like sherco can not afford the warranty costs and image problems of lot of bikes breaking down on low hours like yours. It would ruin them. Sherco has the fuel injection 2stroke technology ready, fully developed and tested for years now. I think it will come to market with 2024 model because of emission regulations. TM is another brand example, small company, brought out 2stroke injected - never heard of problems like tpi bikes have since 2018. Simply because small brands can't afford such a failure like KTM obviously can.

We all know companies change stuff to build their stuff cheaper, all companies do, not just KTM. Sometimes a newer design doesn't work as expected. Have seen major failures in cars, for example the BMW swirl flaps in diesel engines. VW/Audi with oil pumps driven by a plastic sprocket. Loads of cam chain issues in all kinds of brands. I'm quite curious about statistics, how many bikes are out there and how many of them break. It's always the people with drama that post stuff, understandable of course. The question is what happens next, after the problems, do they help the people in trouble ? Are they fixing the mistakes in next models. In the end, the emission regulations are bad for bikes, in EU all bikes run lean and most of them are not open ecu's, so you can't change anything without buying aftermarket stuff. The ktm mx bikes seem to get the option to change mappings again. We had it on the fourstrokes up to 2020, after that they were closed. Everyone with serious changes needed to buy a GET or Carrot ECU to be able to adjust mapping. People complained a lot about it and they changed it. So, is KTM a bad company, I don't think so... They have the balls to go into newer technology, they take some risk in there. As long as they fix their problems I'm ok with that. It's easy to point to a reliable YZ250 but in the end I can't get that bike with a registration since it's not compliant to emission rules.

I'm pretty sure Kymco Taiwan can make a cylinder that's good, but if that is the problem, I'd put money on it coming from their Chinese factory. It looks more like the Piston that broke up first, and I thought Vertex was Italian (maybe they have a factory in China as well...

What about the starter motor on the GOLD carbed bikes. they ran that starter design for like 10 years. Wheel bearings Stators wiring looms suspension 4t starter failures fuel pumps i mean come on and people still blindly think they are quality. Crankcase seals etc etc , industry loves them marketing dollars suspension fixs constant mechanical needs and the youtube salesman love them so much content and the fan boys keep flying the flag haha. You are right its about time people woke up and start calling the bikes what they have always been 2nd rate quality.

That looks like small end bearing failure. The bearing is too loose and shaking the bearing apart. KTM needs to pay.
@Scissors692 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the small end failure. Looks like lubrication to me. If I had one of these bikes I would try a carburettor and premix on it and see if it still ate the piston, to see if it was a lubrication problem

it is proven that Quality is getting worse and price up. But what brand you can pick if you want a good 2 stroke? it is not so often but it happens for sure. the second hand value of TPI from 18 are worth flippers money change. This is why I switched to 4stroke now after more than a decade of 2stroke. I can't get this hypocrisy anymore, first 2stroke were cheaper to get along for 500-700hours back in the days, now? used to have a workshop and I tell you the maintenance of TPI up are just insane...a 350 is a better bargain...or the 300sherco is great too. These upgrades and stuff on the 2strokes just get so much costs that it makes you sick. Still a good yz250x is a reaper! Cheap and easy to fix and strong as it can get...the pistons are made in China for KTM as for the cylinder....but the price is still like a vertex while it is not anymore....
