Dear Josh, As a Flight Attendant at Qatar Airways you are definitely right. There is something going on behind the scenes. We are underpaid, under fear, under rested, under arrest at my own accommodation most of the times. Before every flight I HAVE to stay at my house and come back before 4 in the morning anyhow. One mishap here and there, one tissue upside down and I'm scared I will be fired. I have been flying continuously for the last week, twice I did turnaround flights to Europe sectors. Twice. No rest whatsoever. The crew who flew you from Colombo wouldn't have had 24 hour layover and let's not get to the layover allowances. It's basically peanuts. I fly thrice to US sectors every month before which I do a turnaround flight to Indian sectors. The layover in the states is maximum 24 hours, even tho the time difference is insane. I do not get to see my friends and family for months at a stretch because I'm always scared if I'll even get the ticket and the ticket back to Doha is even more expensive. Plus I have to come back as soon as possible because of 'minimum' rest. I live here in constant fear from so many people, my passengers, my supervisors, my own colleagues, my own team at the office and even my own watchmen in my building. When i heard the bonus Emirates and Singapore Airlines or even low cost carriers was awarded I was very hopeful because my airline is the best and I expected a lot, yes. But I think a lot of commenters are right, we do buy those gimmicky awards. Because the best airline would never treat their employees like this. When you said that they send the worst aircrafts to South Asian countries. They also treat their employees from South Asians countries the same. We constitute the most of the company, from higher management to cleaners but you will never see one of me in their advertisements. Never. I don't even get my bids, neither do I get my offs and it's not just me it's most of us here, but we're here surviving here on such less money. Doha is so expensive for so many reasons. They keep hiring from my countries because it's cheap labor and they are aware of it. They believe in hire and fire instead of keeping the current lot happy. We have a speech ceremony here where the GCEO Mr. Akhbar Al Baker comes and has a word with us. He said "AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU ARE JUST A NUMBER TO ME, YOU ARE REPLACEAPLE". How can someone draw their motivation from this? In another speech ceremony when asked why are the allowances degrading day by day? He said, you don't need more money you eat my casseroles, how ironic it is that we us crew still don't eat on most of the flights since there is no food left. We are supposed to share 2 bananas and 2 apples among 14 people. Sometimes I feel I have no basic human rights. I feel like I'm being watched the whole time, monitored even. The crew are truly exhausted all of us. But there are still people who won't say anything because they get things their way and the ones who don't, well they don't. Yet we smile, 'going places together' I'm sending this to you from a burner email because i don't want to be tracked down. You can respond here whenever you like. I will also comment on the video please you can pin it or copy and paste using your account so that they dont remove it because everyone deserves to know what makes us the best airline in the world. We need your help, Josh. Please.

I'm not surprised. After all, this is a middle eastern country we are talking about. South Asian workers are treated like slaves and third class residents. Having spent 10 years in the middle east, I can speak from experience that we are nothing but a number to them. When they don't care about their employees, how can they care about their customers? Have you ever seen a Qatari national working as flight crew? No, because it's beneath them! Their treatment of those Australian women during the airport baby scandal shows that they have no regard for human rights.

Can we also talk about why the toilets are messy when grown adults are the ones flying. It is unfair for passengers to mess up toilets and expect another human being to clean up your filth after you. If you dont know how to use a toilet then maybe you shouldn't be flying in the first place. I personally would not enjoy my job if i had to constantly be cleaning toilets because people keep pissing on the floor. Also remember, the same people cleaning your piss off the floor are the same people serving you food. The crew are not slaves so please treat them with dignity.

I work as a receptionist at a hotel that accommodates Qatar crew near Heathrow. Poor people are exhausted, they get treated like sh*t by the company and and hence there is no motivation. Imagine, we have a flight that comes in the morning and they have to operate AGAIN the same evening with minimal rest. Their rosters get constantly changed and sometimes they don't even know where they are flying to next. This company is making them overwork themselves but they are too scared to speak up as the company is extremely strict. When I do my briefing upon their check in, they are either too tired to stand up or too tired to even keep their eyes open. I understand that passengers pay a lot of money to fly with them, which explains the high expectations, however, please be kind to people who work in customer service sector

Not 30 days had yet passed after he arrived and started working when they kicked him and everyone else they hired out of the apartment and told them to go fund their own place or get lost. Half returned to their country of origin jobless. My friend and 6 others were able to get a 3 bedroom apartment they’ve been crammed into since the start of the year. A reason for the Qatar decline is probably that they have based their employee relations on fear! The employees have been hounded for years, in manners that would not be permissible at all in "the West"... After the pandemic, jobs in the airline industry are available everywhere, due poor pay and terrible hours, so not having nurtured a pride in their airline rather than fear of Qatar managers, they are now paying the price for not caring for their employees!

I used to be a crew and i have to comment on this video: i flew with QR for almost 6 years and i worked in both economy and business class. I agree with most of your comments: 1-After pandemic, QR fired a lot of crew and when the airline was about to pick things up , they hired thousands and the same time so it was (quantity over quality) and we can feel it even the behavior of the new crew is different. However i can say that 90% of the crew are extremely friendly and hard working 2- i have no idea why would they still operate the 330 or rent other aircrafts from other companies like oman air and cathay pacific. They should have stick to two or three aircraft types and make the passenger life and crew life easier. 3-the product itself deteriorated after pandemic , i remember the tray used to have much more stuff but it feels like the food has become different. 4-the meal choice issue i started to notice it after pandemic, when i got promoted to work in business class. We have the same issue in business class, and it's much more embarrassing to refuse a customer a meal choice simply becuase there is not enough. The catering count used to be more however the last couple of years it has become very less and that is embarrassing. 5- since i joined in 2017, we used to not clean washrooms after every passenger, however, we do try and maintain its cleanliness. However, sometikes it gets really busy and hectic that we don't even find time to drink water. 6-The crew are not well compensated and the scheduling has become more hectic. It's like there are no rules or humanity or no consideration of how the human body function. 7- i don't think qatar airways is the best airline, i can write a book about what they are doing wrong from my point of view, and i can assure you that at least 70% or even more of the employees whether crew or not are just working for money and they don't care about the company or its image and they are not even slightly proud of working for QR and that affect the business in so many levels

I flew Qatar 5 times to Sri Lanka this year however I tried Emirates on the same route and I can assure you, that there is an abysmal difference between the two. I prefer millions of time Emirates, Better aircraft’s, the crew were extremely kind and the food portion is large. One the way back to Milan, I got a food intoxication from and I had to vomit, the crew helped me a lot. Also one thing I noticed is that the ground stuff in colombo also were kinder to emirates passengers and the cleaning department cleaned the aircraft well. I saw same ground staff treating badly Qatar passengers. To cut long story short, I’ll probably fly emirates from now on

I’ve been traveling on QR business class for almost 10 years now. Prior to this, I’ve always traveled with SQ, EK or CX. I switched to QR because their service was waaaay better than the other 3. I can’t say that about them now. Other than the Q suites being comfortable and food is good, the service is really subpar nowadays. I noticed this since early last year. I’ve flew twice more after just to give them a chance but, I’m very disappointed. Even the lavatories are not clean or well stocked as before. I’ve now since reverted back to EK and I’m happier with the new seats and, better service. When the staffs are demotivated, it always stems from the top. Big corporations always forget that it’s their people who makes the company… not the other way around. I hope the QR management will wake up soon. Oh and btw, their customer service suck big time too! One of the worse I would say

As ex-crew for another gulf airline, here is my insight on these shortfalls: -Bathroom cleanliness: crew are expected to keep the bathrooms replenished on flights, however it was never our duty to clean the floors as the plane does not even have any mops etc on board. Do you really want your crew cleaning urine off of the floor (even with gloves), and then handling your food? The toilets are only fully cleaned on ground by cleaning staff, and arguably the bigger issue here is that full grown adults are urinating on the floor. -Unfriendly crew: I stopped flying before Covid, however even then airlines began to decrease the number of crew on each flight which made it extremely challenging to deliver the expected level of service. There is a ton to prepare on ground before take off especially for shorter flights so that the service can be started as quickly as possible, and with minimal crew it was near impossible to greet everyone. On shorter flights it is also fully impossible to deliver the service that the airlines sell and advertise. There is literally not enough time to have warm conversations with 300 people on a 3-4 hour flight so I remember it was often a situation of just handing out the trays and getting everything put away again before preparing for descent. -Catering: the airlines cater nearly the exact amount of meals as there are passengers, and generally the meal choices are 50/50. It would be impossible for everyone to always get their meal choice, and really the only way to improve this would be to oversupply meals but then this would lead to a huge waste of food. The only thing I don’t like about this video is that I feel like it attacked the crew a bit who I think people forget are human too. You don’t know how many hours they’ve flown that month, what they’re going through in their personal lives, or if maybe something happened on the way to the aircraft or the previous flight that brought their mood down. They are also the face of the airline that get the heat from all of the issues customers face, but literally almost every single thing is out of their control. Baggage problems, meal problems, connection problems, seat problems - literally none of this is in your cabin crews control. Let’s give service workers some grace ❤

It didn't seem like he was "judging" the crew, as much as stating facts. Qatar charges customers (business class, anyway) well over double what they did in 2019. Apparently, that's not making it to the crew. But part of flight attendants' work is customer service. If that's lacking, more customers will choose another airline with more cheerful service.
@ClayHayes-e6f Жыл бұрын
@@Rotuma1260 QR price is double than 2019 is normal, taxes are higher on 2023. But if you compare it with another airlines at the current time, QR has cheaper price most of the times. Regarding the lack of customer service. You're correct, PART of flight attendant job is customer service. But you can not compare customer service style of flight attendants and other hospitality industry as apple to apple. Don't forget the OTHER PART of it is their fatigue, constant jetlag, irregular circadian rhythms and lifestyle, and lots of other reasons that you might not even think of as a regular flyer. And apparently, those "cheerful service" (as you prefer to use this term), are taking care of their crew properly and humanely. Because, in the end of the day, this is business, not a charity. Quick question. Have you ever flown from minus UTC time zone to plus UTC as a passenger? (I hope you're knowledgeable about UTC). Were you tired? If ONLY as a passenger you were exhausted, imagine working for 14hours with different time zones back and forth plus only 18hours of rest day. Think deeper next time.
@Rotuma1260 Жыл бұрын
@@ClayHayes-e6f You think the flight attendants on other airlines don't face the fatigue, constant jetlag, and irregular circadian rhythms? And yet they offer cheerful service. You think that we pilots don't face the same jetlag and other challenges? Think deeper. Often.
@richardjenkins4182 Жыл бұрын
@@ClayHayes-e6f I've been checking prices to SE Asia. China Airlines, ANA, JAL, and a number of other airlines are consistently cheaper than QR. You completely missed the point about flight attendants. On all airlines, the FAs and pilots face irregular schedules and jet lag. No one likes to be underpaid and overworked. I've had to do it at several jobs. If management doesn't improve, the employee needs to look at other options. Glassdoor and Indeed are among employment websites that allow employees to rate their employers and if the company has malignant management, they can leave reviews with specific information, to help other potential workers to avoid that company. You're trying to make excuses for cheerless service, when flight attendants at other airlines put smiles on their faces. Wow. Try thinking about it from the customers' viewpoint. You pretend they should keep spending their money on Qatar when they have choices and can receive better treatment. Obviously, you have a vested reason for trying to defend QR because your comment makes no sense. But customers have choices and as Josh pointed out, when a customer spends money, he or she should expect good service. This video is a great wake-up call for QR.

Hey Josh!! Glad that someone finally spoke up and called out Qatar Airways for their abysmal service, well done! I flew with them between MAD and DXB twice this year, in March and June. Both times were very underwhelming, in terms of the service, the crew, and the meals. The ground experience in DOH was appalling as well, with staff being very unprofessional. There are some much better, lesser-flown airlines in the region such as EY, GF, or WY that do a far better job with connections. The only good thing for me was the comprehensive IFE system, with an impressive number of options. Apart from that, there was nothing that screamed “world-class” or even “world’s best airline”. I have been flying Qatar for over 10 years now. And I have been seeing the decline happening for the past 2 years. I recently returned with them from BKK and the service is comparable to Ryanair now, the food trays are now downsized (e.g. did not get any butter with the bread roll; however, their desserts are usually excellent), the pillows & blankets seem thinner than they used to be, the toilets are borderline filthy. There was an issue with the ac vent above my seat (a380) where every few minutes there would be water and/or ice dripping onto my head & shoulders. When reported to a crew member, she handed me over a few paper tissues and told me to clean it myself lol I was a bit shocked to be honest. The water kept dripping for half of my flight.

Both my flights were delayed, so much so that i missed my connecting transit and was put on a second flight with all our seats scattered (i was with a group). The plane was an old A330 from Doha to Colombo. When I then got on the plane, they had swapped my seat with someone else without asking me, giving me a whole new boarding ticket! I refused to move. I then found my IFE screen was not working, and my seat didn't recline! They then kept us on the plane for 2 hours with no A/C in the Doha heat!! All the passengers were getting restless at that point. During the flight i found the toilets to be very dirty, with tissues and water all over the floor! I also received my meals last for some reason and i was not sitting at the back! By the time they got to me, they ran out of options!

Let me tell you why you think QatarAirways is declining. First of all the crew before Covid were much more high quality( more professional and caring during their jobs), now the good crew are leaving and they need to fill up the missing spots with anyone. Second the crew are very demotivated due to bad salary since they are cutting their meal allowances and they work harder type of flights. They are demotivated due to seeing Emirates or Singapore getting 6 to 8 MONTHS of basic salary, and Qatar getting only 1 month 1 week(5 week basic) which is nothing and keep in mind they are working for supposedly the Best airline in the world.. Their crew schedule is most of the time not giving enough time to rest outstation like Emirates which gives crew day off. In Qatar once you land you are already counting down on your 24 hours rest at the destination, which in this 24h includes eating sleeping getting up and reaching the airport. So crew are very tired after a few flights like this. Second with the meal shortage is because 70% is (chicken which most people eat and is the best option), 20% of second choice (beef) and 10% of vegetarian. I do understand that people will not get their meal choice most of the time also for the high pay for the ticket, but there is a lot of food waste and they are trying not to throw away as much possible, which is a responsible thing to do with a side effect. Also cleaning the toilet after every guest is only in business class, in economy is as much as possible but not after every single person since the crew are busy all the time with service or after service duties etc, so maybe they didn’t have time since they just finished the meal service and they are preparing for the clearance etc.

I mean in general Josh is just filming what he encounters on his 2 flights with Qatar Airways. But before jumping to conclusions about the crew etc one should consider what happens behind the scenes in such an environment. The conditions for QR Cabin Crew were already bad pre pandemic and after the pandemic QR is cutting a lot of costs so for sure the payment for Staff members is not an exception. Maintaning the status of world's best airline comes with a lot of sacrifices on the Crews side. Let me list what kind of rules you have to follow if you work for Qatar Airways as Cabin Crew: - Curfew : Being home 12Hours before pick up time. So if your flights departs at 11pm you will be picked up by the company at about 9pm so you have to stay at home from 9am. You get 90min to go grocery shopping or to do anything else outside of your appartment. They track you because you have to swipe your Card to leave/enter the accommodation. - Being at home from 4am - 7am - Not enough rest between flights, not enough rest during certain Ultra Long Haul/Long Haul flights - Social Media Ban: Not posting on Social Media while wearing Uniform. Other than that not using your mobile phone while wearing the uniform. It is also not allowed to use a private cab while wearing uniform only the official Taxis are allowed. - Reporting Culture: if you get reported to your manager they can fire you immediately , it doesnt matter if you are at fault or not still gonna happen - Exit Permit: You are only allowed to go home if they grant you the exit permit otherwise you cant leave the country while working for Qatar Airways. - not a fair paymemt: While other airlines gave their Cabin Crew a bonus Qatar didnt. Other than that how cant such a prestige airline pay higher salaries ? So at a certain point you just loose the ability to keep on smiling while working as a modern slave. There will be people saying why wouldn't they leave but i guess some cant due to the contract or some cant afford to do so. I feel like this review shows that Crew are way too overworked and that the company doesnt care for their Cabin Crews well being. Its normal to meet individual Crew that arent too motivated but a whole set of 15-20 people is just unlikely. You can feel the Cabin Supervisors Anxiety when she asked him not to film her at the door. At some point its difficult to hold it together so now the so 'perfect' image is starting to fall apart. So another thing is there are just routes that dont require a new plane. Different Countries with different cultures come with different behaviors so they of course choose their planes according to that.

@hawkeyenz so that's your opinion but to me that is too insensitive. What Josh said on this video will mostly effect the crew on these flights, now the faces are blurred but when he uploaded the video the faces were visible. If you know Qatar as a country in general you know that they don't have any labour unions that protect employees rights . So if you decide to fly with such an airline from such a country you don't have a clue what could possibly happens behind the scenes? I posted my comment to raise awareness so you know now , hope you are more considerate of the Crew the next time. Besides that running out of meal choices or messy lavatories are either the companies problem or the passengers fault so putting the blame on the crew of being lazy etc is just unfair. From 200 people in economy it just needs 1 person to mess up tha lavatory so how often should they clean it on a 4hour flight between service and meal clearings.

Something important to note. Routes to Colombo, like many in South Asia, primarily serve to haul working class labour from those places to the Gulf States. As such, rarely are the business and first class seats ever filled and service seemingly takes less priority given the demographics of the passengers onboard. Service seems to take less priority on routes like this because frankly, the way Gulf carriers, and the govts who own them, would see it - is they’re not the target demographic which would put them on the map anyways (like Europe or America would). Nothing official to prove this but I’ve seen this to be the case on Kuwait Airways, Gulf Air and Emirates - who all run these routes for that same reason. What I can say for sure though is the Gulf in general don’t treat South Asia with as much emphasis or urgency as they do the West.

Flew First class & had good experiences, however I do think they work their employees to the hilt with no rest! I happen to know a South Asian pilot who had to fly twice in the same day! WHY? Because they absolutely love to make crew feel miserable and make them feel they belong to Qatar Airways at all times, even during days off. They don’t like the quality of the passengers and that as you can see in the overall attitude, care and motivation is lacking. Obviously it’s not good but if your airlines relies on connecting a huge amount of those passengers to your hub and it’s a huge part of your company strategy you should care and try your best to maintain standards. These are often shorter flight times with 24hrs rest. The biggest problem here which speaks to the culture of the company is the attitude of the crew, that is hard to fix and Qatar management needs to take a serious look at that.

Qatar airways has become like an arrogant rich cousin in the family that shows off how rich he is and deems everyone else inferior. The entire culture reflects the arrogance of the CEO himself. He thinks of himself as even bigger than Airbus and Boeing. As for the crew, when you get paid less, inhumane scrutiny on SOPs, constantly being monitored and are in constant fear of losing your job, this is inevitable. Since Emirates performed comparatively well after the covid, all the listed employees (pilots, crew, engineers, counter operators, etc) received bonuses this year. Ask any QA employee, how long has it been since they received any bonus? The royal family should seriously consider changing the CEO, otherwise they'll loose their market to Emirates and other Gulf carriers. Mind you, the new Riyadh Air can give a tough time also. You can bribe the authorities and rating consultancies, but you cant bride customers.

Josh's name and Just like all airline reviewers names, should always bring up a flag for the airlines and know he is on the flight. If they don't make it known to the Staff then the airlines are stupid. These types of bad reviews are either going to really hurt their name / brand recognition or put the nail in their coffin as a company. Trusting the staff are doing good service all the time you have to have Mistry fliers flying all the time to evaluate. On one long haul flight i saw and heard the main purser getting into a crew member and she left with tears in her eyes. I called him out about it and his reply was it was none of my business. The Airline when i complained when i landed were very receptive to my feedback and called me for more info and also got back to me with the action they had taken. Let's say that Purser no longer works at that airline. (I'm a regular flyer in this route and have never seen him.)

I've noticed a huge difference in the economy class, but in my opinion it depends on how reach and developed the destination country is. I often fly Kathmandu- Doha, Doha - Warsaw, both Qatar. The Flights from the to Nepal to Doha, and from Doha to Nepal, are always on old, dated planes, the crew is not up to the standards and once they'd skipped a morning coffee service, although it should be served..... The food similarly had no choice, although I had a vegan option pre-ordered. On the contrary the flight Doha - Warsaw is always of a good standard, professional crew and a good food choices. I think, there's a bit of a 3rd World country destination done by the Qatar. For them, people from Colombo and Nepal are servants not the customers.... Something they should think about as it just makes them look bad and bias

I worked as a cabin crew for QR for four years beetwen 2009-2012. Qatar Airways was a toxic work environment and still is. I flown with them as a passanger recently and it is written in the crew forehead how miserable they are. Some nationalities, keep doing it because they lack better options in their home countries. I once flew with a fellow crew and she told me she had properties back home as a QR crew. Haha imagine! Regarding the crew "giving their back" to you during boarding, Id do the same if someones board with a camera on my face. Times have changed, I guess. Toilets: crew should maintain toilets acceptable for use, sure. But, people should be mindful of others when using it as well. I always kept toilets in 'acceptable' state, never, never cleaned them. My last days as a crew finished 6 years ago with Etihad Airways. Much more pleasant experience. I believe for the guests too. As a former crew and fellow passenger, Id say Qatar Airways isn't the best at all.

Hi Josh, I flew Qatar airways for the first time between Entebbe and Frankfurt this month and boy oh boy, you have put my experience in words and motion, which I couldn't do myself. I had always looked forward to flying the best airline in the world, Qatar airways, and when I did, I asked myself why it was given that title in the first place. The awful experience started with having a ticket that was so inflexible to change and the officers in Kampala office were not bothered to give me other options of changing or opening my ticket apart from abandoning it or sticking with the original booking. Then came the plane, service and experience from Entebbe to Doha and same returning back to Entebbe. There was zero interest from the crew, poor food options and the planes are so dated compared to emirates and other contenders in the Middle East that fly to Entebbe. The experience from Doha to Frankfurt was equally the same as the first leg with an equally old plane but even with a newer plane on the return journey, I never got why the crew seemed more like an old tired European airline crew than a young vibrant Middle Eastern one. To be honest, I was so disappointed that flying them again will be so hard for me.

I will try to answer some of your comments as I picked them up from the video: * 24H layover, this is not entirely true. At best when there’s a 24 hours layover it is calculated from the moment the aircraft landed till it takes off. After landing the crew is lucky if they leave the aircraft in the next hour, add the time from the airport immigration and the drive to the hotel. Most of the time the wake-up call outstation is 3 hours before departure (depending on how far is the hotel and the weather/traffic forecasted). Now is that a full 24H restful layover? Also, there are patterns of 18 and 16 hours of layover. Not all crew have the same roster, some might have already flown 2-3 sectors prior, or you’ll land in Doha, just to find yourself after 11 hours heading somewhere else. * New planes are being prioritized to “good” destinations. Again not entirely true at all. I agree the A330s are old and they don’t do any favor to the QR’s fleet, but CMB is served by roughly 4 flights a day (plus one lease operated by Oman Air) and there is also B787-8 and B787-9 deployed on that route. The same applies to other destinations throughout the Indian subcontinent, with basically the whole fleet except the A380 flying there. The A330s were refurbished a couple of years ago. However, most of the effort was concentrated on the business-class cabin and deployed on various routes across the network from Europe and Asia like Berlin, Barcelona, Osaka, and Kuala Lumpur. Statements that only good destinations receive good aircraft are a little bit mean and undocumented. Also, everybody knows that their fleet problem is an organic one caused by the management. * Meals. A recurring problem, and this will keep happening cause seriously now you can’t carry all the options for everybody. Catering is working with data provided by the reports from the crew, and they do adjustments that more or less take between 3 to 6 months to be in effect. And when you have 3 options usually the breakdown is 60% 30% and 10% for the meal choices. QR still has an impressive number of special dietary meals that can be pre-ordered for the flight, 16 of them, 18 if you count the baby and child meals. A little-known fact, if you need chicken you can order an HNML and you’ll receive a delicious meal made in an Indian style (not spicy). * Lavatories. It’s a shame that the new crew has to be pushed from behind to check their assigned lavatories. Giving the crew the benefit of the doubt, it is a bit difficult on a full flight during the service to check the lavatory every 6 minutes or after every customer. Not saying impossible just difficult, and when you have a new crew without any experience either flying or having any other previous job, chances for things to go south are quite high. Also, let's pause for a moment and see who is using the lavatories. What kind of person do you have to be to find a clean lavatory and then leave it in a state of despair, with piss on the floor, tissues lying around, and water trickling down the mirror. Not to mention that is incredibly hard for some of them to flush down their waste. * The crew has all the right to ask passengers not to record videos in the cabin, and not everybody likes to be filmed. The cabin crew’s job calls for assertive behavior, but for some that might come across as rude. You complain that some crew turns their back on you, as I said, not everyone enjoys being filmed. * Motivation. It is a bit hard to have high motivation when you have to endure the way the QR management runs and handle issues regarding the crew. Also during the pandemic, the staff underwent a pay cut and it was told that once everything is back to normal the salaries will also revert to pre-pandemic values. Since then the company posted a net profit of 1.21 billion USD for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, without any salary increase. Somehow the company paid a one-time bonus of 5 weeks basic salary for this year. Salaries were cut in 2020 and they are at the same level. Overall when you treat your crew like kids and you manage by fear instead of open communication and leading by example, you end up with some bitter and demotivated crew. Most of the crew are professionals and take their job seriously and then some just don’t care about anything, but this behavior you can find anywhere, to be honest. Knowing how pitiful the airline's management is, this video will not improve their working conditions. On the contrary.

I often do flights between Doha and Europe and clearly since Covid, things are not as they used to be. It didn't go as bad as you seem to mention though (I always found the crew really nice considering the conditions they work in...). First, prices ramped up with Covid and never went down. They also changed the rules for their Qmiles and Qpoints and whatever "rewarding" system that is. On board I noticed that yes, options run out quite quickly and if you have ordered a special meal, sometimes they just don't have it (and you see the poor attendant running around the cabin trying to find the missing special meal...). On these type of flights, usually we have one main meal after departure and one snack one hour before landing. It happened that we didn't have the snack at all, or it was these mini packets of crisps. (instead of their usual hot sandwich). I didn't see much a difference in the toilets: it really depends on the flight: sometimes people are cleaner then other times. But yes, overall quality is getting lower.

I also flew on QR for the first time ever from CDG to Jakarta this August, literally coming back last Saturday. To be honest, I saw many similarities with your experience. Firstly, I was surprised at how inconsistent the seats were across aircraft types. I flew 1 A350-1000, 2 A350-900 and a B777-300ER, and it felt like they each had a different seat (either pitch or IFE), even between both -900s! The nicest was the A350-1000, unsurprisingly. The same went for the amenity kits. There were 2: a COVID kit, and regular amenities (eyemasks, earplugs etc). Got both on the first flight, only the amenity one on the roundtrip to Jakarta, and only the COVID one on the flight back to Paris... I also noticed that overall, the crew seemed very unhappy to be there. While they did come around several times, carry out their drinks and meal services, or handout snacks, most of them never smiled and were not friendly to interact with. Of course, there were some exceptions with a few nicer crew members who did seem to care, I am very thankful for their presence which made the experience better. On all the flights, they did a pretty good job at keeping the toilets clean, and folded the toilet paper nicely most times I went in there which is very much appreciated. I didn't get an amazing impression on the food. On the first flight from Paris, we took off at 11pm with a landing at 6am Doha time. As such, most of the passengers went straight to sleep, having already had dinner at the airport. When we tried to do this, the crew tapped on our shoulders one hour in to ask if we wanted to eat while we clearly were wearing eye masks, trying to sleep. The flight to Jakarta had two meals, which were quite decent (loved the mousse they have for desert, and the broad range of juice available!). The metal cutlery was very welcomed too, definitely has a premium feel to it. The return flight to Doha also had 2 meals, except the food was below average (I had tasteless breaded chicken with undercooked potatoes - wtf). To my surprise, on the 2nd meal service they also ran out of options! The FA came to us and said 'I just have beef left'. When we stared confused, she explained how they started serving the first meal at our row so we had all the choices available, and thus it was only normal to be the last ones served for the 2nd meal. Although it does make sense, why do they run out in the first place? She then asked a colleague, and it turned out they had chicken available as well. No vegetarian pasta option remaining however, which is very disappointing. On the DOH-CDG flight, they only proceeded to serve one meal - quite surprising for a 6h flight (the crew said 1 meal is normal as it was 'only' 6hrs...). We took off at 3pm and landed around 9pm, yet they served the meal around 4pm which was incredibly inconvenient - we ate lunch around 1pm, and would definitely not be hungry until 6-7. In the end, we just didn't eat anything and had dinner upon arrival in Paris. The IFE was top notch, very responsive and exhaustive (we loved the cameras on the A350s too). The free wifi hour for privilege club members is also very handy (and 10USD is very cheap if you wanted the whole flight, it's -20% if you buy it in advance too). The flights were on time too, nothing to complain there. Nonetheless, after landing in Jakarta, luggages were continuously being delivered for a solid 45 minutes on the belt before ours showed up (must have been at the very back), which was incredibly frustrating - I guess the 777-300 flight was full, and people do really like using their whole 30kg pp allowance. Overall, the experience was alright but quite far from what the 'best airline in the world' title entails (Skytrax being inaccurate? lol). I'd take Air France over them any day for example, in my experience they always have extremely friendly crews which make the flights really enjoyable. One last thing, if there's any QR staff who could answer it would be great - How many pilots are there for long haul flights with Qatar (~6h and 8h30)? I swear I only saw 2 walking around at the airport after we arrived both in Jakarta and in Paris, which is surprising since the standard is usually 3 in my experience. Am I mistaken or is that correct?
@Wabisabiwasabi9 Жыл бұрын
I can answer some of your comments. 1. For the amenity kits. DOH-CGK has the flight time of 9 hrs, CGK-DOH 8 hrs flight. These are the flights where they give amenity kits. And Jakarta doesn’t require the airline to provide the Covid kit. While Paris flights (under 7 hrs flight) the Europe sector requires the airline to provide Covid kit (so even in Rome or London flight they will provide this kit). And for amenity kit, since it’s under 6,5 hrs flight (and probably a day flight too, that’s why on the flight from Paris probably is a night flight) they don’t give this amenity kit. 2. This flight time also affects how many services are there. Jakarta flight they serves 2 main meal. And Paris flight if at night they’ll serve bar/drinks, main meal, and snacks. Day flight will be only main meal, and snacks. The crew has to wake up the passengers ONLY for the main meal, cause this is how the company wants it. The meal choices that always running out also as per the catering provides, they will not get 100% of all the options, let’s say of three options it’s gonna be ratio of 4:2:1 and usually the vegetarian option is least. 3. For the number of pilots, on short haul - long haul flight requires 2 pilots. Where on ultra long haul requires 4 pilots. Some long haul flights where they requires rest in flight will have 3 pilots. Hope this can answer some of your doubts and questions.

As a Sri Lankan frequently travelling between East Africa and Colombo I have always opted to fly with Qatar Airways because of their superior service and very good food. And frankly they have never dissapointed. So it was surprising and saddening to see the poor quality of service that you experienced. Although in December last year they substituted an Oman flight for the Doha-Colombo leg which I didnt expect. Are they giving step-motherly treatment to "less important" sectors? Well im flying with them in a couple of weeks and I will certainly pay keen attention. Hope they will not dissapoint.

‘Are they giving step-motherly treatment to less important sectors’- yes, yes they are. Just like emirates. Middle Eastern airlines send all the newer aircraft to Europe and North America, though the bulk of their traffic are Asians.

I have two flights with them 8 months ago and it was completely different , i hope they will improve , but to be honest i realized that most airlines their services are not the same if they fly from poor countries even if you paid a lot of money for the flight .

They try to cut cost to those poorer countries.

16.5 years is no age for an aircraft. Why do you concider it a dinasaur?

true, one of my favourite planes is the QantasLink 717, and the one I flew was 21-22 at the time

@@MG101 Still not old for an aircraft. However I think the impression depends on the look of the cabin and its state of maintanance. I flew in super old Lufthansa a340, wich had brand new cabin. In contrast I'm thinking of AirChina brand new a330 (10 yrs ago) but Cabin looked like from grannys times.
