The reason injuries derailed Yohan Blake's career is because like Tyson Gay, he overtrained, always pushing it to the limit in practice like a "Beast"and hardly giving his body sufficient rest. And in a sport where you're putting a tremendous amount of stress on your body when running at high speeds. Like Gay, Blake let the urge and need to beat Usain Bolt Bolt cloud his judgment on how to take care of his body to be the very best. If Yohan had allowed his body to simply get more rest, it would've resulted in less injures and he probably would've surpassed Bolt. Cuz he was a "Beast" as his nickname suggests back in his prime years 2011-2012.

it's crazy to be able to say that the 2nd quickest man ever is the biggest "what if?" man in the history of athletics

I think Blake should grow back his hair. May be he'll get back his speed just as how Samson got back his strength 😭😭😭

I've had a 969 with the flu too. I got out of bed at 9 and 69 seconds later I got back in bed. I don't brag about it though. .

Dont get me wrong i loved watching this guy run but people saying he would break bolts records is a stretch to me. Bolt slowed down and still got WR and golds. If blake did break a record i believe bolt would of made them faster still

Fun fact: Since 2012 Blake has never ran sub 9.90 race

Imagine running a 9.69 and its not even the fastest time in your country that year.

Blake is always remembered as a 200m man, but he was great at 100 also. Had forgotten this race. If this man had come along in any other era, everyone would know his name. When interviewed, he is always asked about Bolt. Gotta hurt.

@Zak Gunning Few have said before, with them having the same coach and working out together, Yohann somewhat suffered. Yes, iron strengthens iron, yet rivalry determines and promotes excellence ( as said by Maverick). Yohann has stated that in training with Bolt he felt as though he was in Bolt’s shadow. Changing the order of God’s natural plan and living at another May have made a difference yet sometimes it’s our own mind, our own mental state that holds us back, that holds us down.

Wasn't his 200 meters PB run made at a diamond league event as well and and is also a record? Would be an equal or even greater dl record if so in my opinion. Also very sad to hear about the reason why Blake never where able to challenge those top times again. I've noticed him so many times beeing in semis and finals but never understood why he didnt ever made any podiums. He might have been able to overtake even Bolt's results had he been injury free

Miss those days when mid 9.7s seems pretty standard for a Diamond League event. Just a few years later you could win a World Championships with a 9.9 :(

If usian bolt came to success at a different time, yohan Blake would've had such a bigger following, and a much greater appreciation for his records.

A lot of Jamaican easily forget about Yohan Blakes achievements its the sad truth... This man was a class over shadow by Usain Bolt... If it was in a different era not involve Usain.. YOHAN wouldn't have been so underated... Its similar situation with Elaine Thompson Herah.. Injuries can be a bitch... But lets give praise where it is due.. Well done Yohan Blake... U left a great footprint in the history of the sports!

He may have lost a little fluid weight that week or something. Dehydration has been proven not to effect short-term peak performance. Yohan is a beast.

It's kind of like Sham running as a three year old the same season as Secretariat. Sham was a GREAT horse, but could only run 2nd against the fastest horse of all time.

9.69 sheeesshh🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 if he had a +2.0 tailwind and completely RECOVERS from the FLU he could get like 9.57-9.59 probably and break the world record in the 100m and 200m my prediction could be wrong but it’s my prediction. Remember I said if he recovers from the flu completely and +2.0 wind then just maybe a world is possible

Give more attention to the women's 100m sprint guys,a world record is well on track to be made and if somebody like Elaine was on the men's track now, getting times like 9.63 and beating Bolt's Olympic record for example, there'll be a lot more talk about it.
