My great uncle graduated high school with Shirley Garnett. I remember in 1995 my uncle and I watched Kevin Garnett get drafted. I'm from Easley South Carolina I remember watching KG score 40 pts in the first half against Easley High. I live 30 minutes away from Mauldin and 10 miles away from Greenville. Nickel Town is in the Sterling area where you have Roosevelt Housing Projects and Jesse Jackson Housing Projects I know Greenville very well. Kevin and Shammond know my brother Jamie Rhome he was a excellent PG from Easley High he was shooting 3'$ like Steph Curry back in the early 90'$. A lot of great athletes came out the State of South Carolina. One of the most hardest states to make it out of.

I met KG and talked to him for a few minutes in a hotel in Atlanta. It was extremely early in the morning and we were the only ones in the lobby getting coffee. I told him that my Uncle worked as a valet at the Minneapolis airport and that he'd told me that KG would give him several hundred dollars in tips whether he got his car or not. My Uncle was almost 70 when he had the valet job. All of the people he worked with with were very young and I knew he felt embarrassed. KG seemed to understand that any 70 year old valet probably had a sad story and he was right. He immediately remembered my Uncle's name which gave me the sense he cares about people. After our brief conversation, we walked out of the hotel together. KG is easily 7'0!" I was in awe of his size. My few minutes with KG were very special because my Uncle had recently passed away and he his favorite (and constant) stories were about KG. To my Uncle, a few hundred dollars was like hitting the jackpot. Relatively small gestures from VIPs, like KG, mean a ton to ordinary people.
