I travelled throughout Mexico, though it was some 10 years ago. Everywhere I went, churches were ALWAYS full of people; mass or not. I have never seen people pray more fervently and with more conviction. Contrast that with Europe where churches are now hotels, clubs or tourist monuments. I don't understand what "Mayan mass" is or why it's needed. From what I observed, people in Mexico were visibly very devout Christians.

Dr. Marshall I follow you and listen to all the time. I am an 83 old lady and live in BOERNE, a small town in Tx. I have a disability and have to use a wheelchair to go to the regular mass. It hurts me to see the young girls and boys and even more of men in shorts. I have noticed that I am the only one to receive the Eucharist in my tongue from a lay person. I also try to dress up appropriately. Not trying to judge others but I think it is the right thing to do. There is no way to have "liturgical dance" in a Catholic Church which does not look like anything but a sexual expression of pride. We had one arranged by the choir director (without permission) and by the 2nd Sunday Mass she was fired, as it should be. It was sickening. The women dancing not only took away from the presence of Christ, but I can't imagine that there weren't sins of the sexual nature committed because of the flimsy attire of the dancers.

I saw a version of this Mayan Mass about twenty plus years ago at the Los Angeles Religious Education Conference. In the procession, there were female liturgical dancers processing in with large bowls filled with burning incense. I really didn’t know what to think at the time. I had just begun my formation on my way to be ordained as a deacon. I’ve seen so many abuses over the years. I’ve said something a number of times. Dr Taylor I was watching a video yesterday from Chris Stefanick speaking with an artist from New Zealand. The artist was very talented in traditional restoration. He was commissioned by the Catholic Church in NZ to paint an image for the Maori people to attract/include them (great). The artist created Mary as a Maori woman with a Maori child as Jesus in complete NZ tribal outfits. This is now meant to represent Mary for the nation of NZ for the Catholic Church. St Paul tried to find common ground with everyone. Not so he could be changed though, but so he could bring others in. The church doesn’t change, Jesus doesn’t change. People change.
