The Wii was firmly a late 2000s gaming machine. Its era was 2006-2012. The Gamecube was the early 2000s Nintendo console (2001-2006).

the Wii U was basically a perfected Wii. I really hate how they marketed the wii-u. Most parents couldnt tell the difference between wii and wii-u except that one was 2-300 more bucks than the other. Wii-u was absolutely slept on. Literally couldve called it the Ninetndo Wii 2, and it wouldve sold exponentially. A wii, but the SEQUEL!? theres a reason sony keeps the naming convention simple. Ps2 was the sequel to a majority of gamers console, so they scooped it up in spades along with the dvd player meaning sssome people bought it simply to watch movies for cheap at the time. Wii-u had it all, the name flopped. Nintendo Wii 2 can have a commercial with a kid saying "Ok mom ima go play zelda now!" and kid 2 saying "Me too!". That couldve literally been the tagline for it. "Me Too."

my wii still has Sonic 3, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros 1 & 3, Super Mario RPG, Gunstar heroes...and those are all owned from the VC...my wii is indeed modded and yet i still fully own these VC games. I really wish they would just make an online nintendo catalog....

I also first knew about the NEOGEO & TurboGrafx16 from the Wii Shop Channel. The vast majority of younger/normie Nintendo fans never heard of a NEOGEO until Terry’s inclusion in smash and had no idea who Richter Belmont was either which baffled me for some time.

The Wii Shop Channel/Virtual Console was my introduction to retro gaming, and I would not be nearly as big of a fan of Mario as I am now if I hadn’t gotten the original platformers on my Wii back in the day.

I remember discovering super mario rpg and drawing the correlations from smrpg to paper mario in the same way as you and having my mind blown aswell. I used to try find old multiplayer games to play with friends and took a chance and downloaded a random game called “chew man fu” for the turbo grafx and it surprisingly was actually pretty fun and still to this day I’ll randomly play it with friends if they are over.

I never bought much wiiware unfortunately despite being around during it being still online and running but I do find it fascinating that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES was re-released briefly on virtual console, then delisted and now it's finally back in the recent Cowabunga Collection.

as a kid I never even used this shop channel unfortunately lmfao. I really wish I did but I was a dumb kid and just saw the Wii as the console you put the disc in and play something.
