I have been a Fred Astaire (and Ginger Rogers) fan since I was a kid. My parents were in their 40s when I was born in 1966, so this stuff was in our homes growing up. I love Swing and big band music, as well. Anyway, before VCRs, they used to have the Late Night Movie on weekdays at 11:30pm. Since it was a school night, I would go to bed at like 7, and get up to watch a Fred and Ginger flick at 11:30, then go back to bed. LOL It was worth it to me!

Fred Astaire the goat of tap. Just an amazing fluid dancer who had some incredible moves. I remember as a kid growing up with my brothers we along with mum and dad watched every Fred Astaire movie ever made that they ran on TV once a week I think on a Saturday night back in the 70’s

Fred said to an interviewer that his favorite dance partner was Rita, because she was so uninhibited- but he didn’t want people to know Ginger wasn’t his favorite.

I've read many times in biographies that there was no bigger fan of the Nicholas Brothers than Fred Astaire. If he knew the brothers would be filming a dance number Mr. Astaire would make it a point to be there watching as they filmed. Three dance geniuses with the utmost respect for one another. All three were unbelievably talented.

Fred A had the best dance partners in show business - some of them his full equal as a dancer (like Eleanor Powell)! But he once said that Rita was his favourite. I can see why: she's not the flashiest; and she's not competing with him; but she's just so _one_ with her body, that she doesn't even _know_ how to move ungracefully or unfluidly. Attach that grace to a body & face like that, and ... well, she just makes Fred look all the better.

I love Rita and Fred! Especially Ritas fine self! That was a great routine! I enjoyed your commentary! And the two brothers you referred to were probably the Nicholas Brothers who were just fantastic! Harold and Fayard. Actually Harold played Sarge the choreographer in the 5 Heartbeats. You probably remember him! Anyway, great job!

Oh wow, does that bring back fond memories. Used to spend several hours a day at least 4 days a week watching these great old movies with my Mama on AMC and TCM. She died in 2007, and I really haven't watched them since. Sure miss her a lot.

My husband kept asking for saddle shoes. Finally found them for Christmas. Had to be like Freds shoes so "he could on the spirit of Fred Astaire" @ 72 he dances around while I sit and giggle (quietly). Loves Fred Astaire but loves his shoes more. BTW they said Fred was the greatest dancer of all time but Ginger had to do the same but backwards and The Morton Brothers were awesome.

Dang the audio wasn't right .. but the dance is astronomical!!! Astaire made a success on Broadway beginning @ 18. Despite that .. breaking n2 film proved th opposite .. one studio exec wrote: "Can't sing, can't act, slightly balding & can dance a little." Then he moved to Hollywood @ 34 & the rest is history 😊

best male dancer to ever stand in shoes . OK. time for my recommendation for one of the most intimate and accomplished performances I've ever seen. Ray Charles singing the Eddy Arnold hit, "You Don't Know Me". Ray sang this live on the last Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters Show, a kind of country music variety show (of which there were many back in the day). If this don't move you, you've already passed on. It is a breathtakingly beautiful performance: A song about unrequited love. The song is infused/invested with a lifetime of emotions, easily seen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZanZp99frSmbtU
