Beautiful guitar! I loved it since I watched Vito Bratta's White Lion. He had a custom model!

I used to work at the Newburgh factory. I love the original graphite design and sound. The bass was also amazing. It looks like the new models are heavier than the old ones. Ned wanted them as light and balanced as possible. Do the new models feel heavier or the same ?

I have an original early '90's body style you are using but my Original has two single coil pickups with one humbucker at the bridge. I changed those pickups out for active pickups. I must say that made a world of difference in the sound. I own at least 15 guitars, both electric and acoustic. Most are electric. This one was one of my first purchases and will say this is definitely my "GO TO" guitar. This work horse is so versatile and can be used in SO many different situations. I definitely will NEVER get rid of this guitar and will enjoy it to my dying day. I have many others that are totally worth playing and a different sound, but once you get a guitar that just fits your hands and playing style, it's hard to make any type of change no matter how expensive it is!! I have an early '80's Les Paul Custom with custom pickups potted in wax to control the sound. I must say a gorgeous sound in the Neck and Bridge. I will say the Amp used makes ALL the difference in the sound you are trying to achieve. I use a Fencer '67 Black Face Super Reverb. Its a 4x10 combo but does have one not original speaker. I know perfectionists will have an issue with this but let me tell you, the sound is there. If you want an SRV sound using a Strat, you WILL definitely achieve that sound! I have other guitars that are worth a LOT LESS than my Steinberger but definitely do play like butter like this one. It's nice to know that they are making decent guitars so many years later. I'll be honest I'm glad I have a real original Steinberger from the early '90's. I will cherish this piece of work and will play it until I die. I would never get rid of my Squire Strat that honestly plays like no other for being such a cheap guitar. I have many expensive guitars that I would sell and get rid of before I would get rid of this Squire. It's really funny that you can find really expensive guitars that play worse than some really cheaper guitars out there. While price does make a difference in a guitar purchase, YOU really must PLAY the guitar and make sure it fits you and your needs. Price can be a lot of BULLSHIT!!! Just know that when you are buying a guitar. That is VERY important to know.

I happen to be the proud owner of a Gibson-made Steinberger Spirit GT Pro Deluxe headless guitar in Metallic Blue finish, it's a wonderful guitar that I love to bits, mostly because of it's ergonomics, it is a really comfortable guitar to play whether you're standing up or sitting down, it weighs about 4kgs and the balance is phenomenal, no tendency for neck-diving like you get with guitars like a Gibson SG.

I have one of these guitars. Had to change out the boring EMG Select pickups for some Seymour Duncans. Now, it is a shred beast of a guitar. I wish Gibson would start making more of these. Great vid. Thanks for posting. ✌️

Same. I have a GU-7R that's blue and I love that thing to death even though it's supposedly a cheap instrument. There's definitely cheap parts on it including the neck but there's work arounds. Been investigating these instruments for awhile now and there seems to be a kind of cult following

Great video Rob - gave a BRIEF history of the Steinberger operation. I would have gone into more detail about the GRAPHITE NECK on the Steinbergers vs wooden necks on the Spirits.....makes all the difference. Regardless - great playing and demo of the guitar. Look forward to future posts from your channel!

Beautiful guitar, sir! In the 2000's, I found myself yearning for a GM-7TA, like Buck Dharma's "Cheeseberger", after hearing him play it in BÖC. I loved the punchy sound and wondered how much of what I was hearing was his amp. Then I saw an 80's or 90's SNL rerun with Clapton, of all people, playing one. His sound was very similar. Even without the active EMG's, you're getting the same awesome punchy distortion in your video. I believed my search was futile as Gibson had stopped producing the higher end Steinbergers. I had spoken to Ed Roman in Vegas about getting a used one with the almighty TransTrem (I was surprised that this tremolo wasn't mentioned in your video. It's an amazing piece of engineering, arguably Ned's most notable contribution to his guitars). If I remember correctly, Roman was selling old TransTrems alone for $1,500. Anyway, during my search, I had found that Ned Steinberger was consulting with Gibson again and they had resumed production of these guitars, replete with graphite neck and TransTrem. I couldn't believe it. So I saved and saved before picking up a GM-7TA. It's an awesome guitar. I guess they don't make them anymore...again. Interest must be low. What a strange world.

I have a Steinberger from Newburgh same model but there are differences. Graphite neck and black korina body gives the guitar lot more bass and more friendly highs imo. I like the way you make the Spirit sound good btw!

Back in the mid '80s I hurt my back and could hardly hold my Les Paul it was so so painful, I had a couple of gigs coming up and was thinking of cancelling until a friend said he knew someone that had a Steinberger and he would probably lend me it for those gigs, well he did and I played the gigs with that Steinberger, the difference was massive, after that I had the intention of buying one but never found a used one and still haven't bought one.

The most I've ever been able to spend on a guitar is 500.00. It was an Ibanez RG series. I still have it, going on 20 years now. Still sounds great and has never let me down. That Steinberger though, sounds amazing with minimal effects. The price range on guitars nowadays is so high, that few can actually afford them. Great video!!

I own several RGs too, but let me tell you that the Steinberger USA, on the video is a Korean made, have a fretboard as soft as butter and the fret ave a better dressing than any of the other guitars I've tried which includes Les Pauls, PRS, early 80s Jackson soloists, etc.

Let people make fun of the Steinbergers, and the Spirits, but when you have back pain like I have sometimes, standing on stage with a strat, tele or Les Paul strapped to you gets very painful really quick. The Steinberger is so light and stays in place, no neck dive at all.

I had gotten a white Spirit GU Deluxe for $229 from MusicYo (they're out of business now) and also some Kramer guitars (The Striker in my profile pic is one of them) for $180 ($400 for a Baretta with a sustainer). I regret selling the Spirit because now I want one again and can't find them for less than $600. I don't want to waste $300 on a cheap Chinese knockoff so I'll just keep checking eBay for another white GU Deluxe. (And I'll have to find a White Lion logo sticker for it.) :-)

His diploma is from the "Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Cant Read Good". No effort was put in the 'History' portion of this video. Zero talk of composite graphite, trans trem or the fact that the new spirits are all wood copies of the originals. Transcale baritone is a production feature of the newer spirit models, not the original guitars.
