Notice how when the moon has been killed, it's the ocean spirit (with Aang) that rises up and attacks the fire nation. The ocean spirit only pushes with water, never pulls, throughout that entire sequence. The moon's gravity is what pulls on the water and creates the tides. The ocean spirit is the one that pushes water like waves.

while I think you make a good point, if we consider the whole show; Sokka seems to have a good track record with girls. The only one he strikes out with is Suki. Initially. We just see him mostly in the company of Katara, who obviously thinks he's lame. Sure, Yue probably never had a guy openly show he's interested in her, but from her perspective Sokka is also a guy that travelled from one end of the world to the other and has faced countless dangers her sheltered life protects her from. That makes him a pretty cool dude thats also a bumbling idiot in her presence. I'd call that girl-jackpot: A guy that's very evidently into you and also completely unaware of what he's got going for himself.

It literally is the bridge to the spirit world and, under the right conditions, the combination of those powers can be inhumanly terrifying.

This is a great introduction to the intensity and beauty to be found in the show. The characters, world building, writing and thematic undertones are insane. I was the same when i watched Avatar in high school and thought while it’s all really interesting concept and writing, i thought it was a lil too kiddy (even tho it was meant to target children). These two episodes honestly kept me at the edge of my seat. I got sooooo emotionally invested after these two episodes. And Uncle Iroh really shocked me like he honestly looks like an angry stern father that you had to listen to and obey 😂

A lot of people complain (gently) about how silly this first season often is but I think thats what makes the last 2 episodes so impactful. You are SHOCKED when Yue dies and the Koizilla appears and just wrecks everything. The show went from 0 to 100 pretty quick but i think it works because of the stakes. And like you mentioned, the colors and the soundtracks really just shine. The last 2 episodes are phenomenal.

Technically any human that is spiritual enough can meditate enough to enter the Spirit World just how spirits, like the Ocean and Moon spirits, can enter the Physical World. It's not just an Avatar ability; Avatars are just the bridge between the two worlds keeping the peace between humans and spirits (and it's probably easier for them to enter).

Katara’s confidence made sense but it is definitely harder for Katara to beat Zuko during the day time. Zuko wasn’t just being dramatic; it’s very true that Katara rises with the moon while he rises with the sun. Firebenders draw their energy from the sun. The moon was nearly full so Katara drew a lot more energy from it while fighting Zuko before sunrise.

The second & third season blow the first season out of the water, it just gets way better. The first season was still good but there were episodes that didn't propel the story forward as much. Season 2 & 3 get more intense and more focused.

That Jhao killed the Moon Spirit should not be that shocking. We knew he was a sore loser from his Agni Kia duel with Zuko in chapter 3. After he lost he tried to hit Zuko with a cheap shot but Iroh stopped him. This was the same type of reaction but no one was able to stop him.

Y'all are in for an epic ride! If I could go back and erase my memory to watch this show for the first time again, I would. It's lucky that we get to experience this show and people's reactions to it through KZbin. I'm excited to see your reactions of the next seasons. I know people consider this the "weakest" season and I thought so too on my first watch, but it ages so well with rewatches. Everything in season 1 has a purpose in seasons 2 and 3.

An additional note about the monochrome sequence: in addition to the orange hue from the fire, the only other color throughout that entire sequence was Yue's blue eyes, foreshadowing her significance. Hahn's useless charge and instant yeeting by Zhao was apparently the result of the writers straight-up forgetting about the secret mission, so, at the last second, they added that scene. As Zhao said, "As I was saying..." This is where the show turns up. Book 1 was very episodic, based on character development, lore, and world-building. Book 2 raises the stakes significantly and becomes more serious and intense. Book 3 turns that up to 11. The show simply does NOT slow down from here on out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue watching, and prioritize it as much as you can based on what's best for your channel. I understand that I'm biased, but this is the show that brought me to your channel, and it's the primary reason I'm here. I really do love your reactions to the show, and I've watched 90+% of all the ATLA reactions on YT (not exaggerating). You guys are up there on my list, and I want to continue enjoying you fall in love with ATLA!
