I am not sure that it would have made a great difference in the overall scheme of things, although his own life and that of his wife would have been happier.

I'm sure that Friedrich III would have done great things. Sadly, I don't think he would have prevented the Great War. I do not doubt that Friedrich would have wanted peace (just like his son, Wilhelm II), but the situation would still have spiraled out of control.

@@justinevert1504 Best case scenario is probably that World War I is smaller. Austria-Hungary probably would have started a war of some kind even if Germany didn't join them. At least 2-3 empires might have been still destroyed. We also have to remember that Germany still would have had Wilhelm II eventually and also the Soviet Union to deal with (after the Czar was overthrown). Germany's only hope of survival as an empire would have been to have Frederick succeed in making the monarchy a constitutional one, keep good relations at least with Britain and hope the Communists didn't try an invasion. It would have been a VERY tall task, but who knows?
