I've heard of their story years ago. I always wanted to know what the "surviving" twin you would look like, and how she would finally speak. Now I know. The medical field back then was not equipped to understand, or properly treat them. Their method was to "lock them up" and throw away the key. I believe that they had so much to offer this world with their unique "gift", but instead "society" at that time "silenced" them more than they could have every silenced themselves .

I have 5 year old identical twin daughters, now that they are verbal I can hear the funny little things they say that make it clear that it's their own language and they understand each other. Even before they were verbal they understood every little gesture and movement the other one made. They still communicate mostly through facial gestures. I think that they think I don't notice. But to anyone and everyone else they literally cannot keep their mouth shut. THEY LOVE TO TALK NON STOP. lol. Also, me my older brother and my older sister for victims of severe abuse at very young ages and when we were very young we were not put in school because of that abuse and we developed our own language. We would make animal like noises at each other and make rhyming like sounds, but mostly spoke to each other with our eyes. I think because of my childhood it makes it easier for me to see the way that my identical twin daughters have this very specific, nonverbal and verbal, personal little language they have that they share.

My heart goes out to these twins being judged by a community over their uniqueness. You have to take into account the insults & bizarre questions these twins heard when they were young, well before being isolated from each other, also include the fact women of color get misdiagnosed more often, & exactly what kind of (treatments) these twins endured? If a person tells a lie over time people will believe it to be true. A person speaks negativity into a plant, that person will starve from no fruit, speak positivity into a plant you feed a family. God bless the twins.

There's something called broken heart syndrome which has been validated by medical science and is not fully understood. It's a condition where someone's loneliness or grief is observed to cause a potentially fatal swelling of the heart. I think that our life experiences can impact the health of our brains- causing the amygdala to enlarge, leading to dysregulation of the nervous system. Our minds, souls, and bodies are very intricately connected and it is indeed possible to die of a broken heart. Additionally, adverse childhood experiences can alter your nervous system for life, leading to inflammatory disease and conditions like hypertension and heart disease. People lose years off their life span due to the traumatic things that happen to them as children. All of that has been validated in real scientific studies. That's why we should be kind to each other and fight against cruelty and persecution on our society. They are literally deadly. I feel so bad for these girls. What deep sadness or fear were they harboring? What happened to them when they were young? Many of us have written disturbing journal entries during our formative years- that does not necessarily mean that someone is dangerous. It seems to me that these girls had no one to safely discuss their thoughts with, no qualified adults to look to for some guidance. They might have invented their own private mythology as an attempt at survival, and eventually it became what they believed. They seemed to be highly intelligent and very sensitive, leading to anxieties. Who wouldn't be anxious in that kind of situation- isolated by speech impediments, racism, being constantly misunderstood and ostracized by other people, etc. I was a shy, quiet girl myself and I can't imagine dealing with everything they had to deal with. A heartbreaking story and definitely a nightmare when people are treated this way by our ignorant culture.

Is it possible that one twin was bipolar, nondiagnosed and she was stronger and influenced the other sister? Also, I read an article and saw the documentary, and reading between the lines and comments made some racism was displayed in how they were treated.

My identical twin (7 mins apart) and I just exchange looks and already know what we are thinking. Sadly we don't speak anymore we are like night and day. She has been in and out of jail while i am taking classes at Harvard. I wish i could talk to her but she is just not someone i would want my kids around.

My best friend has 2 twin brothers. One time a few years ago, they were playing coop on the XBox, and I saw one of them scratch the other ones head, he didn't even say his head itched, only a simple thank you. Creepiest and coolest shit I ever saw.

This reminds me of the similar case of Ursula and Sabina Eriksson. The Eriksson sisters were two Swedish women who were from the U.K. They were both identical twins and they had a rare shared psychological disorder.

I forgot about them! Thanks for reminding me. Now I'm gonna look them up. That was a crazy story.

I have a twin we have a different language growing up. The only different between us is that I went down the right road and my twin is in jail for the next 60 yrs for murder. I love my sister no different.

My twin boys had a surgery performed by a urologist at the University of Chicago. He did pro-bono work around the world donating his time to helping twins with hypospadias. Twins were flown from different parts of the world to one central location. Twins from areas speaking different languages communicated through what the doctor said was "twin talk" these children understood each other though the sets were from different corners of the earth. I found that fascinating that they create their own language.

This is a very sad and strange tragic story Specially how the twins got together and decided one had to die when they were released it’s like they will one of them to death

I’m still questioning the family after watching the movie. The mom slipped the meals under the door and allowed the twins to engage in their own world excluding everyone else. I have 3 children and I would never slip a meal under the door for any of them. I do t run a prison. Children need engagement and socialization. It seems this enabled the isolation.

They stayed at the hospital for 12 years but were talking to others after just 2 or 3 expecting to be released. However the courts would not grant them their freedom. So they would remain in this facility for a long time while being gravely misdiagnosed with mental illnesses. There’s a more Accurate story by June herself.

Were they born with a hearing problem maybe? Because the way the sister speaks, it sounds life she was maybe deaf?.. I don't know, I'm just wondering!

Thanks for the recommendation man 👌 I didn't knew they made a documentary about these twins, their lives are so interesting. I wonder what kind of discoveries the Angel of Death Mengele encountered while making horrible experiments on twins 🤔 and I wonder if the American government has some of those discoveries somewhere on a dark secret facility along with other knowledge bought during operation Paperclip

I have tmj disorder and that is how I speak. I cannot open my mouth wide enough to speak and sound normally. After series of surgery and braces, I can now speak normally. I also had to practice speaking.
