I came here from Hong Kong. There it is a 12-hour working day, six-day week, and constant socialising, very little sleep and extremely frenetic. It took me a couple months to adapt to life in the Philippines and I am cool with it. Blood pressure, stress and the risk of a heart attack have diminished considerably. And, instead of working non-stop, I spend time with my family.

I said this before, speaking slowly to the locals makes çommunicating so much easier for them to understand you (English speakers...).
@KC-in9px

That applies to everyone who tries to communicate with non-native speakers. I understand quite a few words in Spanish and am learning words in Tagalog and Bisaya but at regular speed forget about it. Translating individual words takes time.

As a filipino, my favorite subject in school back in the 90's as a high school student is Values Education. I think they already took this curriculum away nowadays, however, I believe that Good moral and right conduct is still part of Philippines School Curriculum.

Was at a birthday celebration 2 afternoons ago on the walk home my neighbour said to me at my gate if any one starts to give me trouble just give him a call, I said thanks and if you need help don't be afraid to call. That is what good neighbours is all about.

i lived in japan for 4 years and have lived in south korea these past 13 years .. i resonate wholeheartedly with all of what you said Steve .. a "family" of expat friends is essential if you're going to live in another country and very different culture for the long term .. all well said Steve!

I’m 42. I wish I could retire now and to go to live in the Philippines. I’m planning to become semi-retired in my early 50s and to go to live in PH. Each time I go to the Philippines I feel like a guy who just getting out of Plato's Cave and seeing, discovering and enjoying life differently. I just love that country! ❤️🇵🇭👍

Although I won't be living in Trece Martirez because my Filipina works and lives in Santo Tomas amd that would be way to far for her to travel to work and I don't want to do that to her. Jobs are tough to find in the Philippines as we all know. But even still I would definitely like to stop by from time to time and hang out with you Steve you seem like a pretty level headed guy. I'm a little younger than the average expat over there (Im 40) but Im humble, chill, hate drama, and you will certainly never get any hassle outta me. One things for sure I will definitely need some guidance when I get over there because I will be lost. I can do all the research etc I want but nothing is like having your feet on the ground and seeing/experiencing it all live and in color. Anyways take care and good vlog 👍

I am a year younger than you and I think before settling down in a certain area it's best to travel the country as a tourist first and get to know the place. I did it a ton in 2017 all over the Phils and was the best moments of my life. Sadly it's not what it used to be pre 2020 but just have to be happy with what we have. It's good to be humble and chill because it seems a lot of older expats get here from damaged backgrounds and they are on a pathway to disaster.

Pag nakaratay ka at masama ang pakiramdam mo tapos dinalaw ka ng friend or friends mo nakakagaan ng pakiramdam . We Filipinos bring something to eat to our friend who is sick and we will say to him kainin mo Ito para lumakas ka . Pero pag ang tao sobra ang sama di namin sisilipin yan kahit sa burol nya .

Really like how you discuss real life issues. Shows just how caring you are about the Community and those around you. Very impressive. Each day, I am re-planning how I am going to move there. Lot of things to plan and make sure of. Your videos are really helping me a lot in this regard. Making me re-think a lot of my plans and making them better. Planning for bad things is a very smart thing. Of course not dwelling on it, just being prepared for what can happen. Thank you for another great video.

I look forward to retiring in about 15 yrs. I also think it's very helpful and important to build meaningful friendships w people (expat and local) because if the pandemic has taught us anything, it's that we must look out for one another and not rely on gvmts to do so.

It's good to have a community of people that will be available for each other. Reminds me of leave it to Beaver. Back in the day, every community in America was like that. Until we ripped God out of the schools and removed all sense of morals and ethics, started killing babies and teaching human life has no value, and telling people to only look out for number one because nobody else is important or has value. And that's what has destroyed America. The land is the freely selfish, and home of the bravely inept. God bless America.

I only lasted 4 years. 1977-81. Went for a visit in 2019. Kicking myself in the butt for waiting so long to go back. I didn’t realize how much I loved it there. Covid has really screwed my return up. Waiting now for the restriction to relax. I’d be very happy to live there again. Have kids here that are established. I also like being around the so I can’t go permanently. Easy living.

I think may peeps who leave the west have left for many reasons. “Community” happens when there are “morals and ethics” … to a degree, “ do unto others as you would have them do unto you “ is not so much a conscious thing. “ Community “ becomes the effect of “morals and ethics “, which is the cause. As far as your “ OFF “ expat goes, I think you give people 3 chances to “ right a wrong “ .……. without being aggressive about it. After that, they can be as right as they want to be no matter how wrong they are, and then just walk away….. Hope all is well, keep the great content rolling…!!!!

I appreciate your views on retired life. I retired again (I retired 6 years ago, but went back to work after a year - I missed working). I now share similar views on being retired. I enjoyed what I did and it took a while longer to give it up. I just back from my first road trip in retirement and enjoyed it immensely. Not having to worry about work was so nice. I look forward to watching your vlogs. I am from Waltham originally.

I understand your point, but moving to another country and then hanging out with people from your own country does not appeal to me, it would be like I never left home. It kind of reminds me of the time a New Yorker friend told me he went to Cancun and sat in a nice tiki bar and all that was around him was complaining New Yorkers. No offence , but I personally would rather blend into the local community.

US hospitals are not like the Philippines. Everything here will be handled. People don't worry too much about your care. You absolutely need someone to help in the RP. I've never done so much for people in the hospital as I did there. Too much to go into here. Anyone planning on retiring there should first experience the hospital so you know what you are getting into. It's definitely not something you want to do without help.

Hey Steve, great blog. That sounds like a great group of guys you’re putting together. It’s nice to have that peace of mind, that you all support each other the way you do. I don’t even have that here in the states. I’m looking forward to being part of your group, when I get there. For those of us getting ready to make the big move to the Philippines, I think that may be one of our biggest concerns, is will we have a good support group to turn to, if and when needed? Thanks again for a great blog, keep up the great work, and God bless…

Good Video… Yeah maybe that guy had issues before heading to the Philippines wouldn’t truly know his story unless you knew him back in the US. You could always try to help… But you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Plus you’re not living over there to be stressed out and a social worker lol. Looking forward to wrapping up loose ends and major stuff here… mostly selling off everything,So maybe in about 18 months heading your way.😎🇨🇦

Steve, whether you want to admit it or not the issues with that guy really bother you. This is at least the third time that you've mentioned him and have said that you've "let him go" but you haven't. As a friend I'd like to see you get together with him in a face to face meeting and resolve the issues. Not in a video but in a private setting. Only after such a conversation takes place will you be able to move on and be able to put the bad feelings to rest, hopefully as friends.
